Started in an indoor bowhunters league 4 weeks ago and told myself I was using just the recurve I got in August. I really had not shot it much until the league started and then only about 6 or 8 yards in the basement trying to figure out form. Shooting 3d targets from 5 to 40 is a blast! Such a much more relaxed style of shooting and a much more gratifying feeling when you out shoot the compound boys in your group on a target! Even managed to do 1st shot 1st arrow and drill a coke lid at 20 last night. Now if I can keep doing it consistently. Can't wait for spring turkeys!
I hear yea bud...congrats
Yes, just wait until you hit the woods!
I still feel like the little boy that I was, roaming the northern bush country with bow in hand, searching out adventures... then... and now.
The little boy thing is spot on. I was talking with a buddy about it this morning and he doesn't understand my new obsession or why I switched. I thought about it and told him I learned to shoot with an old bear fiberglass recurve when I was real little and it brings back all those great memories and makes me feel like I did when I was a 9 year old puttin the sneak on pocket gophers in the field out back.
I know how you feel. Just wait until you kill your first deer with it. You won't believe the level of excitement.
it's been 48 years since i was a kid with my first bow...NOTHING has changed...still love it!!!
Aint it great and more fun if you miss it is not such a big deal and don't ruin your whole night!! Welcome to a great bunch of shooters.
Great thread!
It is all about having fun.
My guess is you have always been "trad", it`s just now you shoot a bow that lets you enjoy it to the fullest.
:campfire:
What part of Iowa are you in?
I wish too that I had went fully trad years ago. It's great when at 3d tourny's you always no where the trad guys are by the laughter not the swearing. It's way more fun yet still deadly on game.
You have to really enjoy the sport of archery
to enjoy Traditional shooting. The bow can
bullseye every time, but can you. Thats what I
love about it. Welcome aboard J-haus!
Creekwood, I'm just on the southeast edge of Des Moines in Warren county. I love the profile pic! I had a not so rewarding skunk encounter heading out turkey hunting a couple years ago.
I'm with you! I converted back in Nov. I'm in the process of selling all my wheelie stuff and have already bought three trad bows and began work on a selfbow. It's addictive for sure!
Congrats, and welcome to tradgang :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
I am also making the change, wish I'd have done this sooner. Like a dummy I bought a new compound Jan 2010, now I am going to take a loss, but its gotta go.
Even in my 60's I still feel like a kid going into the woods with my old recurve. If I get game or not I still have fun. Welcome to Tradgang.
Take no prisoners Jhouse. This trad stuff is fun!
"Aint it cool"! Welcome to Tradgang
Welcome Brother. Sounds a little like my experience in 1994. Been trad ever since and shoot as many animals as I ever did with wheeled bows. Sure there have been times that I had no shot with a longbow but could have easily shot with a compound but that goes both ways. I have been able to shoot walking/trotting deer and deer at lower light periods, off balance/ out of position shots and I think the range restriction makes you a better hunter. Good luck my friend and prepare for a new adventure in hunting. That first Whitetail will mean alot to you.
There's a whole different attitude involved. Much more fun, a whole lot more rewarding.

I couldn't agree with you more !

Funny how when you have a crowd you shoot so much better, the first day i switched to trad, my preacher and a few buddys came over and put a target up. I put 4 arrows right behind the shoulder. I couldnt beleive it!...After they left i went back to shotgun patterns. Of coarse i never let them know this  Lol!
