OK....take a look at the member banner Rob just put up. Didn't take John long to make the headlines. :clapper:
Ok,Here is how it went down. John,Robert and myself manedup and went to the woods.
John wanted to kill a doe with his new Sarrels Black Hills long bow.Robert in relentless persuit of a monster buck,Myself a buck I would mount killed with my new Bob Sarrels Puma.
Brothers from the north yous guys may think this is norm. But below 0 wind chill is a day you go feed a few cows with heater on HIGH. But today we went after whitetail.
Three Michilin men climbed into stands. I watched as the small birds came and got a grain of corn as big as there head wandering what they wuold do with it. My left hand had become one with the bow literaly. Snot poured from my nose into face mask and I did not care. NO deer came to my Death Trap.
At 6:05 I started the prosses of standing up at 6:15 mission acomplished. Pull out cell phone to notify brother I was ready when he was. 15 more miniutes I had msg sent.
The clatter and rattle of the "ultimate hunting wagon" was the most pleasure I experienced that hunt!
I opened the door and we both broke out laughing loudly?? John finally admits he would not have picked me up 10 miniutes early but he had shot a big 8. It took a while to register
.EErr you killed a buck??
Yea ..... A good one???.........Yea.....Dang thats good John!!.....Yea.... I could tell he was excited!
Its a brother thing some people cant read him like me.
So we meet Robert at live Oak where John had been standing on 3'' Limb leaning back on another. Said he thought he hit him a little high and back. very typical shoot for solana.
So we gear up Cowboy with tracking collar and cut the up and coming hero blood tracker loose. He scratches dirt, ice as he takes off for a 220 yd dash as we all duck heads and bat eyes to the north. Then the highly trained tracking dog comes back.
Then I bark [YOU BETTER FIND THIS ONE OR I will #$%^%$$#] So off he goes same way. At 240 yds Tracking system says quarry treed dog on point!!! I hollar at John He is chewing on his butt. Off we go at 220 we crawl through fence.[the reason cowboy came back 1st time ] And there he is!!!
High fives pats on back. Then get the truck and here is where the problems start. PHOTOS flash on good camera is too cold to work I dont know. You shine light I will take pictures.
What you see is some I sent Terry as I dont have the patence to learn how to post them . Better ones coming,no flash needed now.
:clapper: :clapper:
Way to go John!!!!! That is a real nice buck. Congrats on making it to the top too.

Take my word for it folks. It be cold in Texas right now. Cold as I've ever seen it in N. Texas(Dallas). I'm talking 10 degrees actual temperture, with a 10 to 20 mile an hour wind. Anyone hunting anything on stand in this cold is driven. Congrats to John. My hat is off to ya my man. :campfire:

Congrats John! Nice shooting!
Was he in the East Headquarters? Looks very similar to the one that was running does all night long under the stand I was in the Saturday night we were there... Couldn't get him to hold still long enough to get a shot.
Congrats again!
Bowhunter4life he was killed by front gate. But one the really good looking arrows in his quiver is one of yours I think. Did you have a Zwickey on front and a wrap. Found by where you shot buck 30 yds from feeder. Rob Destf Since you dident scold me for all my unsize pic and other mistakes. You will get primo spot. Just don't tell rest of the gang
Nice buck.
Great John, breaking the ice! Now you have 3 days left to put in for an Arizona elk tag! Keep that good luck rolling.
So cool for John...you taught him well David :biglaugh:
Heck of a first buck!!
CONGRATS!!!!
Thank you Rob , I know you have more to do than fix my boo boos but. I'm trying just have not mastered it yet.
Yep, Zwickey Delta 4-blade and now that you mention it, and after I went back looked at the pic, it does look like mine...
Any sign still on it?
No we had lots of rain. It was laying right behind feeder about 20yrds.
Well, the more info that has come to light since the time of the shot vs what my eye saw in the brief moment I could before he was out of sight tells me that I had to have hit the scapula or the humerus on this side rather then the far side.
Still hard to take, but hopefully he is not mortally wounded and suffering...
