It hit me tonight around 10 o'clock as I was thinking about going to bed. I got dressed and went outside for 30 minutes to shoot. My house light barely lights up my target, it's below freezing with high winds, 3 feet of snow in the yard and my deer target is half buried. And I shot great out to 25yds! I feel much better and now I can get some sleep. Does anyone else ever just have such an urge to shoot that you can't relax until you fling some arrows?
I've woken up at 3am went outside and shot before lol.
Yep, especially when you get a new bow or new arrows built, new string or just wondering how a new setup shoots- almost any time of night out in the backyard with a little light will do for a dozen or 2 shot mind fix !!
Skipmaster - Your story reminds me that I'm not alone. Recall one summer night about 2:00 am with flood lights on the target and shooting in my skivees. Probably wouldn't have taken too much notice, however my wife's response engraved an indelible mark.
Sorry hun...yes, I'm crazy.
I have to shoot every day, just to remind myself that I don't need another bow. That only works as long as I have a bow in my hand.
Snow emergency here the last two days, so I have been shooting through the house. However, I still look at the classifieds in my spare time. Now, I feel the need to shoot some more.
The only time I don't feel like shooting is when I'm shooting.
Gotta get that fix!
The time when I'm shooting is the only time that thinking about or wanting to shoot, is not consuming some portion of my mental energy.
Yep !
Absolutely! :archer2:
You bet.....except the wind chill the last couple of days has changed it from "have to shoot"...to "have to stay inside & fiddle with my equipment". :biglaugh:
I get this urge many times a day, luckily i go four steps from my desk, open two doors and then am able to shoot inside @ 10 yards :D
Really helps, i think ill fling a few now
I have a target or two at my shop so when the urge hits I can sling a few. I seem to get more shooting done than work some days though!!
All the time!!
Yes, sometimes I think it is truly an addiction.
There are days when I'm at work when I just can't wait till I get home so I can go shoot. Still after all these years of shooting a bow.
24/7.
Earl
Yes all the time. I shoot everyday I am not travelling for work.Form shoot in the morning before going to work, form shoot in the evening before bed. Usually between that I shoot outside after dinner, vary my distance from 0 - 35 yards. On weekends it is half hour sessions outside all times of the day and night -- just have to shoot, it a great way to have some fun!!! thanks Jerry.
Every morning, have already shot this morning around 6AM.
All the time, I have to keep from shooting too much. A little hard on my old shoulders. My wife says that I am a little excessive (she means a lot). HA! I was out yesterday morning 0 degs with a 8 mile wind, still shot 28 arrows only. Did good but hands got pretty cold. Told the wife that I need the practice in the same type of weather that I hunt in. Says that this just confirms that I am Nuts. Sure God Bless Don
I try to MAKE myself NOT to shoot every day but I usually do shoot at least once/day and many more times most days. It doesn't happen much anymore but there have been a few times in my life when I would get up in the wee hours and go to the basement range and shoot. Just an end of 4-6 arrows and I was relaxed and ready to finish the sleep. I've even put a piece of aluminum foil on my target so it will shine in the dark so I can shoot from my porch.
I try to shoot 25 arrows every day to keep my archery muscles in shape. Some days I shoot more. Yes it is an addiction!
That's when a clear lane (or almost so) in the basement is a good thing. Three times a day I "just have to" fling a few.
That's why I snow blow a path to my target.......
Thats why I have a couple of holes in the walls, time to get a new target. :knothead:
Many times. Very often. And especially right now as I sit here with an ice pack covering my freshy surgerized lower back. No shooting/lifting/fishing/climbing/running/hiking/driving for me for a while. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I guess I have it pretty good... I can shoot atwork.. just call it archery training for the students and then when I get home I have the horse barn to shoot in.
I like to shoot every day...
Hahah. Good i'm not the only one! I shoot most days and i do shoot either in the basement or living room quite often, but sometimes i feel the need to really fling some arrows and watch the flight!

I am finishing up a bow blank from Two Tracks and I tell ya, I just HAVE to shoot it!
Just to keep my sanity.
I have a short range in my basement, I use it on a regular basis,
Even in the dark...My answer to Daylight savings time and short winter days :)

Happy shooting.
It hits me all the time, but now I have a broke finger so it will be a week or two before I can shoot. :( :(
Every day :D
Just shoveled out the neighbors 16 target 3D range and shot this afternoon, real windy but fun all same to get shoot outdoors!
I shoot multiple times a day at all hrs
Hey Eric, (flintznstyx)
I like the 15 yard shot, but if your wide left, is that a boom box on the shelf? 20 yards takes it out of play but sure plays heck on the staircase..... :biglaugh:
Been there done that
Makes ya focus....lol
Fellas that have been married a long time will understand this... I woke up in the middle of the night some time ago and walked out of the bedroom. Just then my wife asked, "Where are you going?" I told her I was going outside to shoot my bow in the dark. To my surprise she said, "OK, I understand."
So happy me is out there having a blast. :archer2: But when I tried to get back into the house I found the doors locked from the inside with a note that read...
"Archery is cool, archery is nice...
Next time you do this, better think twice!"
Signed: Your wife inside with her motor running. :p
... mike ... :dunno: ...
Mike how much did the broken window cost you?
Dang, you remind me of me! Jason
yup. whenever i get that itch i walk outside in the middle of the night, put some food under the flood light, and wait for a coon to come to eat it then i get myself a new hat.
Every night on my days off from work....the urge to step down into the shop and shoot about 30-40 arrows into my large pillow bag. Usually around 8pm at night after a good cigar the urge to shoot hits.
Lately I have pounding the bag with my old Browning Cobra....turkey season just a few short months away.
Thanks for starting this thread, I don't feel alone in my addiction anymore...I hope the love of shooting never wears off
At least once a day, Glad you all are as sick as me :p

When I get the urge to shoot I just open the basement door and go downstairs and shoot.
Doesn't matter if it's raining, 90 degrees, snowing, or even dark outside. -I'm pretty lucky right now. It has not always been this way for me.
I appreciate the ease of it. I wish it could be that way for everyone.
I have a front porch 55 feet long, so even when it is bad weather I can observe my craving to shoot, which is most often everyday even sometimes at odd hours. One reason I shoot mostly a bow in mid 40's weight.
Yep, it happens and something about just kind of makes the stress melt away.
I feel like that now but I've been out of commission with a fever of 104 degrees all week and I'm still pretty weak but I'm gonna give it a try later.
I've gotten out of bed on several occasions to see how a certain arrow or head flies or to do some tuning or tweaking. Yep I got it bad.
America what a great place to be!
I can shoot 8-9 yards in my basement all the time. Too hot or cold I go downstairs! Yeah, there are lots of times I walk down those stairs cuz I just gotta' shoot.....
I do it almost every night. I may be 11pm before I get a single minute to myself...and it usually begins knee deep in snow, in 10 degree temps flinging arrows in the dark.
