Here is a quick feather splicing video that I did. This is a membrane splice, it's quick and easy and you can do 36 feathers in a few hours or quicker once you get good. Start to finish on this feather is barely 3 minutes. This is not as fast as just butting two feathers together but you can get a much cleaner looking splice doing it this way.
There's a lot of good methods and tutorials out there but I figured I'd add one more.

Great tutorial, Thank you!

Awesome thanks for the video. Splicing really adds a custom look to feathers.
great post Tom....thanks
Thanks for the video. For a simplton like me that was a lot easier to understand than the pictures.
This is fantastic, I gotta try it....
Thank you, I hope this ends up in the Archives.
That's kool... Seeing it now makes Me think I can even do it..
nice work!
Thanks for the video, well done and rather easy to follow.
Very Nice!! Tom and his boys got it together!!
very nice,
thanks
Thank you that video. You make it look so darn easy. It sure does look a whole lot nicer than butting them together.
cool instructional.....
I will have to try that.
Great info! thanks
Just what I've been looking for. Thanks.
Ted
Maybe I've gotten some old full length feathers or something, but when I try and strip the quills off they don't come off as nice and even as the video shows....?
cool!
I just did a bunch of these last week. I can attest that this is the best way I have tried to splice feathers. I used Duco as my glue.I did have some trouble with breakage early on. What I did to solve this was start to peel the membrane as instructed for about a 1/2 inch. After that I held the quill down on the table, feather up, and continued to peel while keeping my finger close to the split. Try it that way snag and see if you have better luck.
I must have to use a sharper blade because I have more difficulty striping the qull off than the video shows. Great Video!
I've tried that Jon. The base that peels off with the quill just cracks or splits in two. That's why I thought it might be old brittle feathers...?
:clapper: Thanks! :clapper:

It takes some practice to be able to peel them consistently without breaking the feather. Wild turkey feathers are the hardest of all but it's pretty easy with a little practice, especially with Trueflight feathers. Pinch the feathers real tightly and make sure you're not bending the white base.
You can see in the video that I don't actually pull on the quills, but I instead pull on the base of the feather. I have more control this way and much better results. It's a small nuance that I have found works well for me, but not a necessity. Keep practicing you'll get it.
Is it possible to do this with pre -cut feathers?---Thanks 1Longbow
