Title: Getting back into it
Post by: danderson on February 02, 2011, 04:54:00 PM
hey guys, new on this site, but not to primitive archery. i got started about 8 or 9 years ago with a 40# internature longbow and eager to hunt. kind of got out of it all when my uncle died, but in the past year and a half, i've had a total resurgence and gotten into hunting and archery big time. i even took my first deer this past fall, but it was with a compound.

anyways, i got an old bear recurve last summer for free from a friend, and this past winter break i picked both my primitive bows up and decided i really wanna get back into it practicig with them both for fun and eventually maybe even hunting. heck, last spring i shot a 4 inch group with my longbow at 17 yards just "reaction shooting" (not sure what you call it).

so the bear i think could make a better hunting bow than the internature. its 50# as 28'' the problem is, it came without a string! i looked at the specs and it says 60'' length bow. my question is, how do i figure out what length string i need for this bow?

measure nock to nock and get a string 3 inches shorter. If the bow is infact 60" ntn then the string should be 57"

Yep a 60" amo length bow should take a 57" string. You may need to play a little with brace height to find where she is quiet and smooth on release, but a 57" string should get you very close.

Hopefully someone will chime in and let you know if it will take a fastflight type string or need dacron.

Enjoy the journey.

Get a dacron string for your bow.The package will say 60"'but that's AMO length. The string will be the right length.Get a bow strnger when you get the string. The string will stretch some and you'll need to add twists to keep the brace height in specs

I just measured my string on my KH and twisted up to my brace height it measured 55 3/4" so 57 should work.  B50 only though.
