All of my TallTines are 60" bows based off the short riser. Since my number came up on the list again and the one-piece is not ready for production, I decided to try a 60" based on the long riser.
What a smooth drawing dream! I am going to have to get the chronograph out, but this 52# @ 28" long riser seems to spit them out the same as the 55# @ 28" short riser. I have always heard a longer working limb is supposed to be more efficient and smoother, but I'm not feeling it here.

The best part of the whole deal is there is a 3 piece longbow in process that is going to match this baby
Steve, are those the limbs that were at KaZoo? Really nice looking. Brian's bows shoot great.
Nice bow. I got to shoot this one at K-zoo. I need to shoot the long and short riser next to each other before I can decide.
Hey Steve...looks a little familiar. VERY NICE ! Where does that wood come from ? ;)
I am pretty sure I took that block for the riser out to him, but I can't remember for sure.
Couple more pics. It is amazing how the flash changes things.

That is an awesome bow Steve.
Very nice, veneers and Cocobolo at their best1
Mike, yes, I picked that up at Kzoo. He had a bunch of pickups there. My buddy Gary got his longbow and I know Dave Pagel and Bryan Burkhardt and a couple others picked theirs up as well.
Wow!!
That is a dandy Steve O.
Very nice wood combination. The veneers are spectacular.
Love the limbs.
Steve, I saw someone else shooting it there, that's why I was wondering. Thanks again for the book and dvd. Was that your boy with the leg brace? He has a good sense of humor.
pretty bow!! i got a couple more months to wait for mine.
hey steve, can you take a pic of one of your short risers with the long riser? pleeeease? :)
Looks great Steve!! I got my Phenolic riser TT on Monday and it shoots awesome. I really dont notice much of a difference between my 60" and that 58" bow. Those short limbs do perform really well!!
I saw a couple of people shoot that bow well at Kazoo. Can a bow catch bad habits from its owner?
D.P. ;)
WOW!!!! Those limbs...WOW!
Nice bow Steve, I cant even spell " Carpathium"..haha :D
Pagel :saywhat:
Yes, lots of people shot my bow over the weekend; I figured no one would drop it and they sure were not going to wear it out. I hope they enjoyed it as much as I do.
Just shot the long and short side by side and shot after shot on each. You can feel a difference and to me, the long riser does make everything feel just a hair more "gentle". It is tough to improve on these TallTines though.
How about this:
Brian keeps asking me if I want the checkering and I can't bring myself to hide any of the gorgeous wood he uses :notworthy:
And yes Mike, that was my son. He helps out at the MLA kids area and between that,Robin Conrads, The Brothers of the Bow, and the jerky booth (wheeling and dealing for "bargains"), he stays pretty busy. His tendon is tearing off the growth plate in his shin, so he has to wear that leg immobilizer for 4 weeks then should be good as new.
Very nice, really like the wood choices.
Nice !
This is a beautiful bow indeed!
What is the waiting period for one of these fine bows nowadays?
Margly
Didnt make it to Kalamazoo, but heard Brian is going to be at the Miwest trad expo in Waterloo. Looking forward to seeing them. man they look nice.
Nice looker there! That thing must weigh in somewhere around hefty and stable with a long coco riser...oh boy :)
You guys keep posting about these Tall Tines and it keeps making me want one more and more...I tried one at Denton last July and they were a pleasure to shoot.
Scott, I know what you mean. I had to look it up. I just told him to pick out somrthing nice. I would highly recommend that route when dealing with Brian; he has a great eye for wood.
I believe I heard him at the show saying the current wait time was 4-6 months.
Absolutely stunning!! Glad she is also a shooter. Enjoy!
Sweet!
Dave,
Of course a bow can pick up bad habits from it's owner. Fortunately for Steve I live close enough I can stop by once a month or so and straighten it back out for him :goldtooth:
Very nice!
What a great looking bow, love the colors and shape!! Just fantastic!!!
Now theres a Talltines for me! Long riser...I am convinced the only riser for me. And that one.....ohhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhh
Beautiful bow Steve O. Brian Wessel has certainly risen to the cream of the crop in todays bowyers!

those of you shooting tall tines... are all the limbs interchangeable between recurves? so if you own a long riser and short riser, you could switch limbs between them? or are they more specific to each riser?
Shawn
SK--Yes, limbs are interchangable between short and long risers.
Here is a shot of both. Beater short on the top and new long below.

Awesome bow, I've got the long riser and it shoots great.
Steve, congrats on another fine Tall Tines. That bow is a beauty. I picked one up myself. 58" 65#@28 Walnut handle with the tulip veneers. It's as smooth as butter and really really spits an arrow. I hope to be posting some pics when I get back from the pig gig in a couple of weeks.
Nice! Nice!! Tall Tines.
I need to stay off this website. It just keeps tempting me to spend money!

Very Nice Bow Steve, enjoy
NICE!! A Talltines is on my wish list! TD.
Steve, how many of those bows do you have now, like 25? Nice bow man, nice bow.
That is a beauty.
Man, that Carpathian Elm is wicked!
Nice Steve, thanks!
Steve, I have one of the first TT 64" TD recuves. It has a longer riser, but I see some improvements in the riser you have on your bow. Brian is always trying to test new designs. Mike

Mine is the one on the right.
Mike, I think that might be the record for most grouse with one arrow...at least that is how I heard it from your camp mates. :notworthy:
I have to have a few TallTines, everything else is GONE!
Thats a great looking bow steve. I picked up my TT longbow at KZ also. What a shooter it is, and I just love the snake skins. I'll be getting some pictures for you guys to see soon. That bow and my bamboo arrows are headed for Manitoba this spring.
Steve-O - Remember what I told you when you were commenting on my P2 at K-Zoo : Long risers and short working limbs are "where its at".
Hey Boo-Boo - some dude hangin' out with Steve asked him if I was "Gary"....hmmm, dunno who should be insulted by that one! Gimme a horn hat.

Yes Ryan as usual, you are right. I will say this; I may be a slow learner, but I do learn!
Wow!
Ryan,
Can you go into some detail on the long riser short limb thing? I always understood that the longer the working limb the better. Never knew why though. Help educate me please.
I promise to learn quicker than Steve
DW--when you give me back all my Sitka Gear, you can shoot both of them together and tell me what YOU think.
Steve,
Thanks I'll do that. I was hoping to hear the theory behind the short limb long limb thing. Need to educate myself.
Lechwe
It will take a good bowyer (which I ain't any kind of a bowyer) to explain all the ins and outs, but look at many of the old target bows - there is a reason they were made that way. I feel you get an all around good thing - heavy riser (mass stability), smooth draw (overall longer bow for the same working limb), less floppy parts (limbs) and more solid parts (riser). The limb you have gets worked to its full potential, and in a recurve you can take full advantage of the curl. A long sight window has always seemed to me to be easier to shoot too. Its interesting to see/shoot some of the older bows that were "cutting edge technology" at the time and were designed in the heyday of field archery and thus were made with accuracy first and foremost in mind. Shooting Jack Howard bows (66 inch with a relatively short limb past the fadeouts) and my Wing P2 long riser has really changed my outlook on bow design.
Now, back to the TallTines love fest.... ;)
That IS a pretty bow, Steve-O. Its a shame to hit it with the rattle-can spray paint!
Ryan
Steve O - you can't just publish "Pagel and Burkhardt" picked up new bows without talking to me first...my wife is a regular on here :) Just kidding!
I've strung my new TT up and it is very smooth...can't wait to shoot it! I have a feeling this bow is going to have a good year!
Bryan,
I had to tell my wife it was another Dave Pagel, somewhat of the evil twin syndrome!
D.P.
Substitute "shoes" for "bows" and they instantly understand Dave!
That is an awesome riser..
Well it seems that I have flushed you two out, now I guess I will have to start texting your wives in order for you to post a picture or two?
:saywhat:
Steve,
That's a dangerous move there. Once those women find out you were the one that pressured these guys into buying those bows even though they knew better you will be public enemy number 1. They'll start talking to your wife and NOTHING good ever comes from that. :nono:
CLASSY...BOW,CONGRATS...
beautiful!
That is one beautiful bow.
Congrats!
Just ordered mine...now the wait :(
