Why are there so few bluegrass songs about hunting or archery? It seems like a good fit. There are plenty about eating game, sitting around a fire, and nature, but I can't find many about hunting. If you know any, post em up! :campfire:
These are not bluegrass but a friend of mine, Steve Shedd put together a full CD of hunting/archery songs. It is titled "Gone Huntin'". It has some really neat songs on it. I would call them more country then anything else but there is one that is blues style, etc. Here is a link to a page on his website that has smaples of somr of the songs:

Enjoy,

"Rabbit in a log"
"Forked Deer"
"Groundhog"
Not bluegrass, but Mark Baker, another TGer, has some great hunting songs.
How about Hank Jr's "Country Boy Can Survive"
Thanks Bisch, that's close to what I'm looking for, country/blues/folk song suggestions also wanted. I like Fred Bear by Nuge, and am just wondering why there aren't more songs like that in bluegrass.
centaur, rabbit in a log is a great song that I haven't heard in a while, but I think it is mostly about cooking and eating em, something bout a feast and a shack? Thanks for the suggestions.
Tennesee Hound Dog is one...shoot, there are tons of bluegrass songs with references to good hound dogs. Don't know of any about archery though...
although we do a song in my bluegrass band called "Ride the Wild Turkey"... I always think of a turkey that's been shot with an arrow!
These are more Country/Folk, but great music about Bowhunting/Outdoor themes.

Chad, Mark, and Jim are members of this site. not sure about Steve. Chad has a MySpace page where you can get his music, and I've gotten Mark's and Jim's from 3Rivers in the past. Google Steve, he has a website.
Thanks obsidian and DannyBows. I will look into those names. What's the name of your band obsidian?
