Title: Re-Fletching and Wraps
Post by: Hoyt on February 02, 2011, 07:10:00 AM
Is there a way to just remove feathers from wrap and re-fletch without mauling the wraps? Removing the wraps is a pain and I haven't found a way to do so without just cutting and scraping them off with a knife. Tried submerging them in boiling water and it didn't do any good...still had to scrape and then lightly sand shaft to smooth it up.

I'm using fletch tape.

I use a hairdryer, it heats the glue that holds the wraps on and makes it much easier to remove wraps. A heat gun would probably work better.

Don't know of a way, without damaging the wrap. Besides I always like the new look I have created.

Guess I'll get a hair dryer or heat gun and try that. I can't help but to gouge the shaft a little when scraping with a knife and I know that's not good.

Would leave the wraps off, but they do help in finding arrows..especially the pink ones.

I've always had the hot water trick work.  Maybe try a different brand of wrap this time.

I use fletch tape and when i need new feathers a hair dryer will soften the tape enough to remove the feather with no damage to the wrap. Works best if you don't put a drop of glue on the ends of the feather.

I use fletch tape, and the only damage to the wrap is at the feather points where i put drops of glue.  I don't worry much about that damage and just refletch.  If its a field point I will sometimes rotate the nock so he feather doesn't re-align with the same spot.

I just pull the feather off, and roll up the sticky tape with my thumb. Comes off easily, looks like a booger on your thumb. I never use glue with fletch tape.
