This will be my first season to hunt turkeys with a bow. I plan on not taking a gun in the woods. What do you guys think of the commercial ground blinds for sale? Do you use them? Do you think this is the way to go to hide bow movement?
Thank you
For me, it's the only way to go. It's been said here many times. Turkeys are not bothered by the blinds. Set it up...hunt. You don't have to buy an expensive blind either. Just make sure it's tall enough. Good luck.
I've been wondering the same thing since I hope to draw on a turkey here in Southern Idaho. I have located a good bunch of turkeys and have seen where they roost so I will watch this thread to see what folks recommend to you Limbbaconeer.
The blinds definitely work, I just don't like packing all that gear everywhere I go. I've been going without, been close but no luck yet. I'll keep after it and maybe I'll find a blind and dumb turkey that will stand still for me! :D Jason
You wanna kill turkeys, get a blind, wanna hunt turkeys, go without! LOL
Not 100% true, I have killed em without a blind, butit is farther between turkey dinners!
Actually I have missed several while figuring out you CAN draw on one without spookin him off. Just wait til he fans and spins. You have several seconds to draw while he turns. Texas heart shot is gooood. More trouble if more than one bird tho.
Bein tucked in a cedar tree helps too.
I will be hunting them this year with a Bush-na-Bag and a Waldrop Pack Seat. Super light weight and very mobile. All the turkeys I had around me this fall paid zero attention to me while wearing the Bush.
Check this out I Never even sat in a blind before but I'm going to Kansas in April for some longbeards so I borrowed myself a blind and started flinging a few arrows from the livingroom to the kitchen. 16yds.

im gonna try a ghillie this year. from what ive noticed if ya dont go jerkin around and are still the turkeys wont really pay much attention. there a build along in the diy section that has a bow blind plan. it looks awsome and it would help hide ur draw
Great info. I will check out the build along. I am leaning towards a blind. My only hesitation is that I hunt in a wilderness area and it is quite a hike. Any recomendations on a light/easy to carry blind?
Thanks again
Earl Jeff. You have to be single...
Great pic!
The worst blind bag I have is the most expensive blind I own. DoubleBull. My Ameristep, and Primos Vision Blind have excellent bags with back packing type straps. Get a pop-up, and enjoy yourself !
I think Earl Jeff's house is a man cave.
Wait...i apologize and retract my comment. I see a full baby bottle on the counter.
It is not uncommon to get several shots at the same turkey from a blind if you happen to miss.
In the fall it is very uncommon to get any shots from tree stands they pick you up. I have been in full camo the only thing visible was yellow fletching and yellow nocks and they pick me up every time before I get a shot. I carry a fletching cover now that I place over my arrows in the quiver if I hear turkey coming and it seem to help.
Looks like I will be getting a blind. Now which one... :dunno:
I bought the Predator Den from Cabela's bargain cave this past week-------easy pop-up hub design, with large carrying bag w/ shoulder straps. Set it up in the living room today----this thing is huge = 77" sq. x 70" H. Plus the price was right, too!! i plan on trying it this spring.......I can set it up and pack it back up in way less time than using my climbing tree-stand during deer season....probably use it next year for deer w/ my daughter-----HOPEFULLY!! She's talking about it already but now it's too darn cold!
I've been told they're completely oblivious to blinds. I think it's a great move for someone attempting to kill one of these awesome birds. At times, they seem to me almost unkillable. And, with a stickbow, it's gotta be even tougher. I've been telling people this will be the year I lay my Thompson Center down and go after turkeys with my Centaur. A blind seems the only feasible way.
