Got a chance to go to Fort stewart today. Met up with a couple of good friends and we headed for the woods. We got to one of my "good" areas and I went to hunt a drain a couple of ridges over and my Buddies struck out on the "Turkey" road.....
I went only a short ways and one of the biggest flocks of Turkeys I`ve ever seen scattered. After a few minutes you could hear kee-kee`s and yelps. Man I wish we had a fall/winter season here.
I probably went 3/4 a mile walking in a lot of hog sign when I stopped to admire a fine White Oak and a Huge Magnolia side by side. Best Gardner thats ever been planted them.I heard a slight rustle and looked up in time to see a black back move through some galberries about 40 yards ahead of me.I hit the "sneak" mode and started easing ahead. I got to where I thought I should see or hear movement and I spotted a Huge Boar at about 25 yards. I snuck ahead a bit and stopped and was trying to calm some. Them pigs make my heart beat FAST!!!
I spotted a bit of movement to my left and it was another hog coming across in front of me. I moved ahead a bit to cut it off and waited. The pig came by at 6-8 steps and I hit anchor and that "blur" of yellow feathers mixed with a crack and squeel all seemed to happen at once.Porkers scattered in every direction and then all was quiet.
I dropped a piece of paper from my cargo pocket where I was standing and walked directly to where the pig was standing when I shot and did the same there. It was so thick you could only see 20 yards or so and there were hogs running every direction so hearing my pig fall was impossible. I sat on a log to calm down and get my head together..

need the rest of the story and pics!!!!

RC threads are always great and worth the wait!
I got my thoughts together and started looking for blood and found a start purty quick...

Went on and came to some water...

If you pay attention and look before stepping you can trail one in water..
And at the end of a very good blood trail....

Lot of folks wonder about what draws folks to shoot a Hill style bow. I don`t know.My Mohawk is calmer. Recurves are more "solid" for me...But shooting Hill bows and hunting with one is what I enjoy the most in bowhunting so I guess thats my "why". I feel a thump at the shot but I can shoot a controlled shot faster and more accurate with my Hill bow than with most anything else. Thanks for the Big 5 Thomas I owe you Brother.Thank You Lord for another fine day.RC
Attaboy RC! :campfire:
Sure doesn't take you long to bloody a new bow does it RC...Congrats on a fine day! :clapper:
Spanky
Nice! Congratulations!
Dang, I wished I lived in a place where I could hunt things like hogs and such! :clapper:
Why would you ever hunt with one of those..... :biglaugh:  Well done RC, as always great story and great photos and a short blood trail!!
Nice pig RC! Great story telling as usual!
 :campfire: What are your specs?
Great story RC!
It's not hard to see why we love to shoot Hills.
I am the bow hunter I want to be when I have my Hill in my hand.
Thanks for sharing RC!
God bless,Mudd

Yeah, me too!
I have yet to hunt those critters. You southern boys have year 'round action.
Thanks for the hunt! Funny how I can so easily envision the action - my imagination gives me a streaming video each time you guys tell a story.
RC...Hope your elbow is ok and that your teeth stoped rattling...lol
Good stuff mate and again a fine pig for you.
Cheers Mate !
B
You must have some good pork recipes all the pigs you kill! Well done RC! Thanks again for the story.
Nice shot, awesome bow.
Great job buddy!
Congrats Robert :clapper:
RC,you did well once again!I have never tryed a Hill style bow but for sure you make me curious!
RC- You never let me down when you go out. Fine shooting with a fine bow.
I'm starting to hope that I get stationed on Fort Stewart next....should know in a week or two.
OUTSTANDING RC
Great hunt! Love when you share the hog hunts.
RC, I have to admit you are one hog killing machine. Great shooting. I was going through some hunting photos the other day and came across a whole stack of pics I got from you a couple of years ago with a bunch of hogs and deer. One day I've got to get back down to GA for some hog hunting.
I have a Northern Mist Shelton on the way here before long so I guess I'll get my chance to to do some Hill Style shooting here real soon.
Another great story from the swamp!
Congrats RC! Nice boar and great pic!
NICE!!
Congrats RC!!
Nice, I need a Hill Longbow also. I am a Hill it is only fitting. RC I will agree with the quick shooting of a Hill bow. I have shot two so far and both times I got off fast and accurate shots. Not bad for shooting a bow, when you are not familiar with how it shoots.
Great job as usual RC! Congrats!
Now that's what I call a Hill thread, RC! Sure envy your being able to get at those hogs.
Nice RC ! glad you are putting the bow to good use, I will bring my other hill over your way soon and we will give these ineffective bows a workout. ;)
Nice hog...well done !!!
Next season I will hunt with my longbow again.
RC you never cease to amaze me! Great Job Bud! :archer: :archer2:
Nice job on the bacon RC!! :notworthy:
Nice! :smileystooges:
Congrats RC, looks like the start of another great year for you!
For those who haven't hunted near the GA coast where RC kilt this hog, the "ridges" he mentioned are usually 5 to 10 FEET above the surrounding area.....
Enjoyed your hunt RC.
Great story, love them Hills!
Great story and pictures. Another confirmation of the tried and true Hill style bow. You gotta hunt with what you love. Nice pig, sounds like you really are in "Hog Heaven"!!
RC :clapper:Im glad you dont live around here there wouldn't be any deer left.HH bows strikes again .The saying hit em like Howard Hill might be replaced by. "Kill Em like RC" :notworthy:
Everyone else is talking about the bow, but what kind of quiver is that RC? Nice hog by the way.
Great story and shot RC.
Great bowhunting RC!
That pig looks as well fed as any barnyard pork I`ve seen! Healthy and stout!...except for the part about getting too close to RC. :D
I bet when RC goes to the grocery store, he has no need for the meat counter.
now THAT'S what i'm talkin' about! this is the kinda stuff i wanna read about hill style longbows!
way to go hog slayer! I enjoy your post thanks for the pictures nice job
Great hunt RC! Now don't go and kill all those hogs before I get down to Ft. Stewart in February! Save a nice, fat, little porker for me! Steve
Good stuff RC!
That's a good one right there. Congrats on another.
RC, what arrows and broad head are you shooting?
Nice hog! Outstanding!
Very nice RC as usual.
RC, I've said it before, but you are an absolute machine! Do you ever go out hunting and NOT "bring home the bacon?" Way to go!
RC...you are the man !!!!
Nice bow and nice pig  !
:notworthy:
Well done Robert
Excellent shot RC!
Looks like what's going to be on the BBQ.
Enjoy!
