Title: Easton Epic vs. Easton Axis
Post by: coachA on January 29, 2011, 09:17:00 PM
I have been looking into carbon shafts. I was wonder what the difference in thses shafts are? Is there one that is better for traditional bows than the other one?

The Axis are a smaller diameter with more options available. With the Axis you can get 50-75 gr. and 100 gr. brass inserts for them. With ST Epic's they are not available, you could use heavier points. But they are a 9/32" shaft, the heavest 9/32" point is 125 grs..You could use 5/16" points but they would would have a lip on them. That just make target reomoval a pain with a lip. Both are good arrows but the Axis would be my choice for a traditional bow with the more tuning options and I believe Axis are slightly heavier gpi.

Epics are heavier gpi.  Also probably 20% cheaper cost wise.  I just grind the back of my 5/16 points a little so there is no lip.  both good arrows, I just like more than 1/4" shafts.

My 500 axis are 8.1 gpi, my 500 epics are 7.3gpi. They are both good tough arrows. I'm shooting the epics currently since they are lighter and cheaper.

I prefer the Axis. For stump shooting, I foot them with an inch of 2018 xx75 and they are very durable.

I agree that the axis are very durable. No experience with the epics.

I shoot both, axis are heavier and the epics have a weaker spine.
