Title: Been flingin Flint!
Post by: koger on January 29, 2011, 10:19:00 AM
I had a post couple of days ago about my goals for trad hunting for this year, 2 was taking a deer and turkey with a flint tip, wooden arrow. I made up a few this weeka and shot them yesterday. WOW! about 600grains, and quiet as a mouse and hit where I looked out to 20 yards, which is my self imposed limit, and will try to keep it closer to 15yds. These heads really penetrated, and after about a  dozen shots each, still looked great. I am getting stoked for turkey season, about 10 weeks away, cmon thunderchickens!!

That's so cool Sam! That is definitely a goal of mine in the future as well. Do you have to touch up the heads or use practice points? Good luck on your goals!!!

That is just so cool     Did you knapp the arrow heads yourself ? My son and I got into knapping arrow heads quite a few years ago . If I remember right it took alot of skill and hard work . I never really had any turn out that were usable for shooting . Good Luck and Straight Shooting   :archer2:

I have a friend who is a great Knapper, and a young man who I am helping get into trad has started knapping. I am using 2 arrows, shot them about a dozen times each, no effect on tips, edge and tip still very sharp. They tear a big hole in my foam deer! My buddy got these heads all with in 5 grains+/-.
