Title: Whats the difference bewteen the Thunderstick MOAB and Thunderstick III?
Post by: Matabele on January 28, 2011, 01:44:00 PM
Hi all,

Ive got the itch to buy a longbow, and it seems no ones got anything -ve to say about these bows...and they look great!

Just wondering though what is the difference between the MOAB and III? I know the MOAB is a bit fancier but in terms of amount of R/D, speed, handling qualities etc. Is the III also available with bamboo cores etc?

Thanks for the input!

I'm a recurve shooter who's always wanted to switch to longbow, but could never find one that shot as fast or as smooth as my recurves. I've owned many longbows and sold them all as I just didn't like the increase in hand shock and decrease in performance. UNTIL NOW
I recently picked up a MOAB from a tradgang member in Hawaii while I was on vacation and it is everything the tradgang members have been saying. Very fast, super smooth and the arrows go right where I look. Haven't tried the thunderstick 3 but the MOAB is an absolute winner!! I'm now waiting for my second one to be put in the mail, and I'm selling my recurves.

Im not 100% sure on the detailed differences, but thre are some subtle differences in the riser length I believe, as well as the limbs. The MOAB has a bit more R/D to it.

I have 2 MOABs and a III. Both bows shoot awesome, I have a hard time comparing as the III I have is only 41#, and my MOABs are 52 and 57.

I know the III, with the lghter weight is a nail driver, and I shoot that one amazingly tight.
Not to take away from the MOABs, I have those 2 and just ordered another one. It is dead quiet, and NO handshock. They both shoot right where you're lookin, and I wouldnt own any other longbow other than a Thunderstick.

The MOAB is a mid length design with a shorter riser than the TSIII.  The MOAB has a more radical limb design and is faster.  I shot a 60" MOAB, but the 64" TSIII was about right for me.  Loved them both, but the MOAB is my favorite.  I hope to have another TSIII one day.

How do you think a 60 inch MOAB would do with a 29 1/2 inch draw?  I have long admired the MOAB and been thinking of getting a new longbow and it is certainly on my list.

How about some pics?  I'd like to see some braced and un-braced pics of the MOABS and TIII's if you have them.

Thanks

I think the MOAB is his best overall.....and it all comes together in the 60 inch.
