I thought my traditional days were over because the doctor that I WAS going to told me to quit hunting with my bows because of the pain I was having due to my major operation on my stomach; they removed over 60% of all my insides and told me to not bow hunt especially with traditional bows; I thought about buying a low poundage compound and went as far as to go to the "pro shop" and try my hand with a new compound; as soon as I pulled one back, I handed the bow back to the store owner (who by the way was extremely nice)and told him thank you for your time but I just can't buy the bow;
Went to a specialist and started rehab on my entire body retraing it to do normal activities; I did not get to bow hunt this past season at all and that alone liked to have killed me but I took my doc's advice and stayed with the program;
I am VERY happy to announce that I am doing better than ever and yesterday I was able to draw and shoot(1 arrow) out of a 45 lb longbow and when I did I cried like a newborn baby; it will take the rest of the spring and summer to get back to where I can hunt with a longbow but it's coming;
Please pray for me when you run out of things to pray for; thanks for letting to post again; God bless all......Barry James aka arkansaslongbow
Barry,
It is nice to meet you here. Especially glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. I can't imagine going through a surgery like you have but I can imagine not being able to shoot an arrow.
Seems there is never a time where we will run out of things to pray for...because good people will come here and allow us to help shoulder the burdens.
It is my pleasure to intercede with full expectation of your victory....keep shootin!! :thumbsup:
you are in my prayers friend, god bless you and may he give you the strength and determination to succeed in all your archery endeavors =).
Glad to hear you are on the mend. Keep at it but listen to the docs.

I am so very happy to hear you're doing so well.
Take care and do as the doc's tell you.
My prayers are for you to get back to doing what you love without any problems.
God bless,Mudd
Take one day at a time. I pray you have a complete recovery and can enjoy your passion again. In Christ all things are possible!
Just take Your time and do what the people at the rehab & Your Doc tells You..
Stick with it-You can do it. Hap
Glad to hear you are getting there. Keep up the work & the faith. Would love to see you post some grip & grin photos later this year!!
:thumbsup: :thumbsup:
God Bless you with health & happiness all your days. Way to go Barry!
Sounds like your over the hump and have a smooth road ahead, heck you made it this long and only shot one arrow, I would be looking forward to rehabbing so I could shoot another and another. Keep your head up and heal well brother!!!
Take your time and treat your body well through the recovery process .
Good to hear your getting back to it!
Great to hear. Prayers sent.
We all take for granted how lucky we are to have good health. Not until dealing with something like you are do we realize what health problems can really mean and what we have to lose.
Glad to hear that you are over the hump, and hope and pray that the remainder of your road to a full recovery is much smoother!
I am glad to hear your progress.Stay in touch,your passion for the sport will help you to heal much faster.

Proud for you and your continued recovery. Hang in there and take it slow!!
Barry, Prayers for you and yours. Heal up, take it slow and steady. After an motorcycle accident in 1991, I was told that I would never be able to shoot any type of bow again. But I now shoot 54# @ 27" and down, have shot up too 70 arrows at one time. A little extreme , but you can do it. God Bless Don
Barry, Glad to hear that you have made good progress in your recovery. I, along with other brothers here at Trad Gang will be praying for a full recovery.
The Power of Prayer should never be underestimated!
In April of 2008 I had a total knee replacement. In May of 2008 I had to have surgery on another part of my body. In Dec of 2010 they had to take out the new knee, and install a temporary knee while fighting infections. In Jan 2011 I had a another knee installed. I am now doing re-hab. Everyone in good health should appreciate their health. I use to think I was a tough guy, after these operations, my thinking has changed. Pain hurts! It is no fun to be restricted in your activities, unable to do what you want to do.
Right now my goal is to be able to walk well enough to attend the Texas Shootout in March.
If you are healthy, be happy.
Best wishes on your continued recovery. Progress will seem slow but steady we can pray for.
Best wishes for strength and success.
Way to not let a set back keep you back. I look forward to reports on your progress, and that first deer you get this fall!
Where there's a will there's a way. From the sound of your determination it won't be long. Good luck and don't give up.
one arrow at a time. God bless
:thumbsup: :clapper:
That's great news!
Glad to hear of your progressing rehab! Stay with the plan and hard work will prevail. Ed
Good luck brother, having gone through heart surgery a couple of years ago and having to rehab. I have an idea of what your going through, there will be good days and bad but hang in there and soon the good days will far out number the bad. Our prayers are with you.
I think you beat the odds the minute you decided not to opt for the cable gun! Right then you proved to yourself you have the will power to see this through. By shooting that arrow you proved you can have the self control to reach your goal!
Take it easy and don't try to rush things, you appear to be well on your way to a come back. Keep up the good work!

Hang in there Barry, you will be back with the program in no time. I had a major thoracic surgery in april 2009 I am now shooting a 55# recurve and hunted all of deer season 2010. You will be back in no time, just don't overdue it. Take your time just do a little each day. Good Luck
Stay strong, you will be back to your original form in no time
wishing you the best!
