Well hunting seasons are over or winding down and now we look forward to next year as we conjure up memories of past hunts and the places/camps we stayed in.  Some of you will recognize this place and I look forward to returning there in a few weeks.

While outside there are whitetails gray wolves and black bear.

Camp site with some family members back in '07. I was elk hunting. The first pic, obviously, is the camp. About 30yds past, it opens into some great elk country.

This was deer camp 2009. Believe it or not this is an old Girl Scout Camp tent made in 1959.

Feeling pretty blue...Just gave up this lease and the cabin that went with it in January.  We have hunted there for six years, so I have probably spent close to 240 days or more there. The kids practically grew up there.  With sports and other activities becoming more frequent on the weekend it just got too far to drive.  Looking for something closer...

This is our little hunting camp a few hours from the house.  It's a roll off pre-built building.  Sheet metal constructionw/ 2" of insulation in sandwiched in the middle.  Great "skid" type of building.  The view is fantastic from that deck!

This has been my hunt club for the last 25 years. Primitive camping, no electricity or running water. Dixie Hunt Club, Stevens, GA. Dixie was the owners Grandpa's favorite bird dog.

A very sparse VT deer camp! I had to sleep diagnolly in the back of my Ford Ranger. I'm 6'2" and Ranger beds are not.

I love camp pic threads, I like looking at the different tents, and arrangements, the scenery and the atmosphere of living out doors in wild places.

Its funny how for some, camps evolve from very basic, small tents,  on up to big wall tents, and in some cases cabins.

Certainly with no disrespect, the ones that evolve into a permananet structure such as a cabin, while often placed in beautiful places, to me are no longer a camp, but rather a permanent oasis where those who reside there, even temporarily, escape to.

But for the camp, it is a very remporary residence in a place we are fortunate to borrow for a while.

I've camped in everything from a one man bivy tent on up to my 30' travel trailer. Each has its own appeal. Each, its pro's and con's.

My favorite tent is my Panther Pyramid tent. Roomy enough for a couple hunters, wood stove, cots or air mattresses, and the smell of canvas.
Anyone whos stayed in a canvas tent can attest, that smell is something that just makes the place feel like home.

I have extremely lightweight, silnylon tents, that serve the purpose of keeping the elements at bay, and can be set up and torn down on minutes, as I traverse through a wilderness area in search of elk.

No matter the type of shelter we choose, a remote camp, in places where we search and pursue game, are always a little slice of Heaven. The smells of woodsmoke, damp canvas and wool, a steaming cup of coffee or a cup of good bourbon after a day afield. A quiver of wood arrows and a stickbow propped in the corner or hanging from a branch. and if we're good, and with a little luck, the smell of fresh meat grilling over the fire.

*sigh* I really wish PB could be charged with something for all the mayhem and corruption they have created over the 'net in the last year. I am guessing this was a spectacular thread a few years ago...still is, but the PB 'clock of death' takes a lot of the fun out of it.

I tried the Chrome fix, it didn't seem to work for these old pics. I do know I've never taken them off PB so maybe they found a way to hose everyone after all...

Does not have to cost a lot.  When a friend of mine updated his camp with an actual cabin, I bought his old trailer for $300. (he had to replace some tires; included in price). I've had it for about ten years now. Pretty sure I got all my money out of it.

Nothing to look at, It was broken into once, so I don't keep anything of value in it now.

But it keeps us dry and warm... well when it gets below zero, it is a full time job keeping the wood stove going.

 Most of my materials were free or very cheap, even had the shingles in an old pump shed near the ponds. Wood stove was a gift from a friend that worked in a scrap yard, studs and rafters are really the only lumber I had to buy. I sleep in an old camper for now until the inside is done, then I'll give that to the kiddos or let guests use it.

Next project after that is a wood shed, then a screened pavilion on the river with a chiminea for warmth and burning meats. "Always another project", as my late Grandpa used to say.    :campfire:
