Joe D that is a beautiful buck! I have seen some big ones like that here in S.E PA but have not been able to kill one yet. CONGRATS!

Nice Bucks  249 days till bow season!
Well, its not an in the woods hero pic (can't find any) but he is the biggest I have taken.
He is a ten pt. Can't see g4 on the right and g2 on the left. 164 3/8 Final P & Y score. He missed going B & C due to side to side disparity. 22.5" inside, 4.5 yrs old. G2 on the right beam is 14"
I have to tell you all, the first time I saw him was at about 20 yds going away slowly. Ya all know what a going away big deer looks like? A freakin Elk... I shook so bad I almost hit the ground. At my age this is likely to be my best deer ever. This is the deer in my avatar
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v673/Huntschool/Picture005.jpg)
Bruce, that is a monster! How far was he when you made the shot? I might quit hunting if killed one that big.........Not! Lol!
Slayer:
I actually went back and paced it off.... Was too "nuts" up when I shot him.
16 yards.. wide open broadside and had no idea I was there. Oh yea, on the ground.
Honestly, I spent the next two plus years not much interested in the bucks I saw. That was awhile ago now. It passed the next year.
Bruce,
I have to wipe drool off my keyboard!
That is a great buck!
Thanks guys. He is on the wall right behind me as I write this. "Slick", my nick name for him, watches everything.
He was/is an amazing animal.
As I said above, at my age etc, I will not likely beat him.
Hayslope: back when I was a kid there was a buck this big just south of Nyack on the NY/NJ line off 9W. I never heard of anyone getting him. He lived on both sides of the line. That was back about 62 or so.
Still some big bucks in the Nyack area.My aunty lives there and gets biguns crossing through her yard quite often.A shame they are unhuntable.
Have these hanging in the shop....

Yea, my buds that are still in Bergen Co, NJ tell me they see a lot of good deer up around the state line.
I would love to come back and hunt that area in Rockleigh, NJ. or even around the line at Tappan.
I wish I took pictures of more of the deer I shoot...here are a few, including the 2nd deer I ever shot 19 yrs ago. (http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww260/overspined/1992Michigan.jpg)1992

Really nice bucks!!!
Man I like those blacktails too!!! Ron, from the pics it looks like they were taken using a Blacktail. Cool!!!

Huntschool i know that feeling everything looks small after killing a giant. My buck scored 178 3/8 and all of my 140 class bucks look small on the wall right now im looking for the next victim.I found him he just has outsmarted me last year and this season.Maybe next year
Slayer you are lying through your teeth I know you would go hunting again and again and again. You have already done it.LCH
Lee you are a funny man. I know where there is a 140 for next year. It almost killed me trying to outsmart Smiley! LOL - I am looking at him right now on my wall!
Longbowben:
Yep, I got one here also. I have had him at 12 yards twice but had does with eyes on me both times. No one "blew out" and the last time I saw him was the last day of archery season and he was healthy as a horse which is what he looks like. I would guess him at about 165+. Heck, he is hangin around the same area I got "Slick" in. Looks kinda like him but he is really balanced.
The down side is I saw my good eight tonight in the "back yard". He has droped his head gear but his limp has gtten worse. It looks like his lower right front leg is broken. Its not at an angle but it does seem loose and he does not want to put any weight on it. He is a good young buck and I hope he gets by. Likely he will have an off developed rack because of this.
I hate it when this happens.....

Nice muley........ :notworthy:
Man some great deer!! I just kept thinking the only way to tell span of times in the picts (old from new) was the clothing and color wash of the picts. The bows, quivers remain so similar. Continuity is a great thing.

There is nothing like rejoicing with other trad hunters...you can feel their excitement when you see the pics.

Tracy I want to come hunt with you! WOW!! Nice bucks!!
Ryan Tracy is one heck of a hunter there is no doubt.
Your not too bad yourself! Let's see, muleys with Tracy and elk with you! LOL!!!
Thanks Ryan and Randy. I live for mulie hunting.
I can't seem to kill or even get a shot at a big whitetail though.
Off to Missouri and Nebraska this fall for another try! I'm going to start building up points for another Iowa hunt also.

Rusty...the newest pics I was using my Blacktail. Some of the older recurve kills were with a Brackenbury Drifter, and one was a yew selfbow that John Strunk made for me in 1988.

Guys (gals too) -
I went back through all of these and there are some just plain-gorgeous-deer and memories in here. Maybe we just need an ongoing gallery. No scores needed to appreciate all of these shared moments. WOW! :clapper:
Dan in KS
QuoteJoe D that is a beautiful buck! I have seen some big ones like that here in S.E PA but have not been able to kill one yet. CONGRATS!
Timothy,
Thanks! Since AR's, we have been really seeing some nice bucks running around. :D The big ones are definitely around, it just takes a bit of patience and access to unmolested areas. Good luck this coming year!
There are some awesome pictures in this thread lets keep building this one.
Hey, Longbowben, they don't have to be booners. You must have a few "mid-western dinks"* you could add here.
*Trophy NJ buck :bigsmyl:
This will make it easier for you

I would be happy just to see a blacktail like these in my part of WA! Great work, they sure are a tough deer to hunt, and these are very impressive bucks you have.
