I keep reading about custom bows and how expensive they are. I have only one true custom bow, it is a one of a kind true custom bow. How do I know, because it is the only Osage self bow I have ever made or probally will ever make. I got lucky a couple of years ago and made this bow with the help of the O'Sullivan brothers who were having a bow making class in Erie. They supplied the Osage staves, and all the bow making equipment, and the know how to build the bows. I supplied the sweat and muscles and 16 hours later a bow that should last me a lifetime.
I'm not going into every detail on how we made the bows but it was a great experience to put you hard work and sweat into making your own bow. Teaching the bow how to bend, teaching your bow to bend to you and only you. A bow built for you and gets to know the way you shoot. Pretty amazing if you think about it.
Whats next, its been two years and have missed a doe and a turkey with it, now to take a spring bird this spring. If you ever get a chance to hook up with a bower and get a chance to make a self bow do it. Gives you a whole new look at the sport we all love.
Where there's risk there's reward. Well done. Same reason I shoot trad.
