Lately, with the wave of new people coming to Trad Gang, I feel there needs to be a review of what Trad Gang is about.........
Off topic threads can be one of a kind, or fit into a category. Here's a list of categories that are off topic for Trad Gang that have been problematic for a few months now......
E-B-A-Y/Auction sites/Sales alerts from non Trad Companies.
No target/olympic/field archery topics cept 3-D
NO Solicitations/Raffles/Auctions.
No Religious posts.
No non bowhunting related pics.
No links to other message boards.
No 'hunting contests' PERIOD.
No canned hunt topics period.
No Personal Contact threads.(use search feature and email)
No Scam alerts.
No asking about gear value in a post ("how much is this bow/arrow/quiver/whatever worth?")
No Throwing Hawks, Throwing knives, non hunting knives, atlatls/spears, etc.
No Bloggs/Myspace/Facebook/ and YouTube non-bowhunting/YouTube personal Channels are all off topic. (direct links to a YouTube video are fine as long as they are trad bowhunting related)
No non Bowhunting TV/Movie threads.
No non Trad Bowhunting equipment (compounds, crossbows, mech heads, lazer sites, guns, etc...or even pics)
No fishing threads.
No pics of road kills, or any other weapon kills, or any type of kills that are not done so with trad bows.
No animals killing animals clips, or any other non hunting clips.
We do ONE charity a year and that's St Jude Children's Hospital. And we allow Compton and PBS to announce their raffles. This is all we do, so please do not post any type of charity/fund raiser of any kind.
Again, those categories above are off topic, and will always be off topic unless we approve a specific thread for a needy reason. Please help us help you by keeping the site on topic...Trad Bowhunting.
Trad Gang is a special place, and to keep it a special place it takes work from everyone, including the members. Try and understand that when your post is pulled, it is NOT personal, we are only trying to be consistent and fair as we can for the site's sake. No need to get bent out of shape, no need to go bizerk or explode.
Think you are alone?....Think we play favorites?..here's a few folks that have had their posts edited or pulled....
Ron LaClair, Dean Torges, Gene Wensel, Barry Wensel, Biggie Hoffman, Charlie Lamb, and Don Thomas just to name a few....So, if you've had a post removed or edited, your in good company.
I've pulled my own post as well as had mods pull mine....so don't take it personal. We are just striving to keep the site on course and as established on day one.
Thanks for your consideration.
Nicely done.
Thanks for the reminders Terry! To bad you couldn't make EVERYONE reread the rules before they are able to post again. I would imagine it would offend some folks but it would sure help out.
Thanks for all you and the mods do!
Well noted Mr. Green.
Thank you,
David
Terry,
And the moderators OUTSTANDING JOB !! Thank You for this site. :campfire:
UFO'S..!?
REALLY?
haha!
Now what if we saw a UFO while hunting?
I'm kidding..I'm kidding!
:knothead:
Good list.
I saw a couple of those posts I think.
They were more "tradgear" related than anything hunting related at all.
Good to see the list.
Thanks and great job of policing as you always do.It's apparent that you take pride in what you started and I for one appreciate that :notworthy: . :campfire:
Shame you cant make the letter size 40 and leave it up top permanently.
Just an FYI to the new guys on the main page http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php there are so many forums that most don't check out.Product reviews, trad videos, articles, history, videos and articles of Trad greats like Hill and Bear, How to's, State hunting forums and many many more useful forums and threads. It not just the classifieds Check it out before just start a thread the answer may be there with more info than you thought.JMHO
Now Terry, prove to me that Martians don't use trad gear!!! :smileystooges:
WOW! I'm glad I did not see that post.
Wow, I had no idea some of those topics were being attempted. Thanks for the insight.
I missed it, but what is wrong with spear hunting? It precedes the longbow and wood arrows, and in my opinion is more traditional. If it's not allowed, that's fine, I just think they are one in the same.
That's just a sample fellas!
Thanx T!

This is a Traditional BOWHUNTING forum....NOT a Traditional hunting forum.

AHHHH, now I get it. Thanks for clarifying that.
anyone who has a question concerning trad gang should first go up to the top of any page, click on the red 'MY PROFILE', and click on 'Review User Agreement'.
if your question isn't answered there, pm or email an admin or mod.

Lets also clarify it a little deeper....
Trad Gang is also not a Trad Archery forum.
Kilts???
10-4 on the rest, good deal.
Jason
I had a post pulled asking for pics of a specific trad bow. I can only assume that it was pulled because the bowyer isn't a sponsor. Maybe we could add that to the list. My bad, guess I wasn't thinking when I posted the request. Great job Terry !
Thanks to all the mods.
Ya'll are doing a great job!
JAG/Johnny
Brian...meant to email ya...but ran out of time.
No, that's not the reason. Posts about non-sponsors are not always pulled....hardly ever. However, when there becomes a pattern of what appears to be 'working the board'...or 'spamming' the site by the same company having multiple threads...or threads constantly on the 1st page...then that pattern will be stopped. A lot of these topics are started and questions are asked that should be asked directly to the company, not here on TradGang. Another ploy is to seize upon a post made in passing. Once and innocent post is made....there are members that seemingly 'appear' and the thread turns into a picture/praise fest for the company...and all that was asked for was a simple brace hieght recommendation(example)....again, should have contacted the bowyer directly.
No way should some of these company's have more exposure than paying sponsors. Unfortunately when this pattern is 'found out'....then all threads from that company are removed even if they are made in passing. Casualties of War if you will. We hate it, but we have to protect those that support the site or we wouldn't have one.
Unless you run a site this size, you really don't know how hard it is to keep on track, and how many folks will try and take advantage of it and how many ways they will try. Sometimes these folks spend more time and effort than the Sponsorship costs!!!
Thanks Terry for the reminder(s) and thanks to all the moderators for keeping us on track. We all should check out the 'Review User Agreement' occasionally. Thanks again,
Ron
Thanks again. I spend a LOT of time here. I love the bench!
Thanks Terry!!

I know in your mind you were claifying something... but, I'm confused... I hate coming off as a blockhead, do you mind re-clarifying? I thought this was a Trad Archery forum.
I agree with Bobhat...seems like all the cool people have had threads removed. One day, one day.....if we all try really hard, we too can have threads removed! Just joking!! Thanks for the examples.....Ryan

Good job Terry
I, just now...after all this...moved a thread off of the Pow Wow about football!!!!!
...see what we mean :banghead:
I know how to get one pulled...I did it twice (innocently-I told the guy in the cell next to me) in one day and then Terry splained it to me. It involved a bow made by Leprochans.
:campfire: :clapper:
Makes sense to me!!
Thanks for keeping us all focused.
Slow to read your thread Taz. But, welcomed the "NO's" & particularly the "in good company". Folks make mistakes which can grow out of control if not terminated. This hunting site is great for the rules & folks participating. Much obliged.

I don't post often, and I haven't been here that long. I've participated in many forums about many things over the years, and I'm amazed at how big, and active Trad Gang is... And how smoothly it runs.
To be honest, my first gut reaction to strict enforcement of a bunch of rules is, "Aw, lighten up dudes!"
But imagine what Trad Gang would be like without it... This many people posting all at once about anything and everything would render it useless. You would have a hard time finding anything... There would be little spats going on constantly... It ain't pretty. I've seen it!
Great work, guys! Thanks! :clapper:
Ive had one thread pulled, didnt get offended in the least. This site has it's standards and the mods do a great job of keeping to them. :archer:
I'm sorry, it was me. I got carried away and accept my discipline. I humbly ask for your forgiveness.
-Jeremy :coffee:
Thanks for the heads up and hard work. I broke the rules once and didn't even realize it. I'll try to be more careful from now on. Thanks for all the work on this site I've learned alot on here. Zachary
Terry and the other mods very generously let us into their back yard ( Trad Gang ) to chat, compare, and share trad hunting topics. I have had posts pulled, never asked why and frankly don't need to know why. When I am in another mans back yard, I follow his rules.
I love this site and like how it does not devolve into screaming, ranting, flaming, etc.... It is the exact opposite of a lot of other sites I no longer visit.
I say good work to the moderators. Thanks for your hard work in what I am sure is often a frustrating and thankless task.
I for one am very appreciative of the way Terry and the mods run this site. I visit here frequently just to read all the new posts and wonder how they can keep it in check with all the visitors here. If the rules were not enforced to keep us in line I would not enjoy my time here.
Great job moderators !! Thanks, Shane
and that's why this site is the best.
thank ya'll for this site and for keeping it simple.

I find myself proof reading a post before I click on "post" more than ever before. There is something about typing what you want to say instead of it coming out of our mouth's--at times there is a definite dis-connect.

Nice job! Much appreciated. Thanks
Well done and explained.
Your forum, your rules but with a group of like minded individuals like TradGang, wouldn't it make sense to have a sub-forum for off-topic stuff like that? Seriously, some times its useful and beneficial to get the opinions of people you like and trust on topics that are only slightly related or maybe aren't related at all.
For instance, *years* ago, I started a thread about deer calls. Granted that thread could apply to topics other than trad archery, but many of us here hunt deer and deal with the complexities of getting deer "tradbow close". That topic can be useful and interesting to some of the folks around this campfire.
The others that you mentioned - I can see people here wanting to discuss those topics with each other. Why not - is there a big deal? If there were an off-topic sub forum for this sort of thing, people could chat, you could be bothered less from a policing perspective, and the other forums here could remain uncluttered.
What's the downside?

Are you serious? Did you not just read this thread and the other reminder?
After all this you still don't "get it"!
This is a "100% TRAD BOWHUNTING FORUM"...PERIOD!
GingivitisKahn:
I understand what you are saying.
It is a reasonable idea.
Personally, I wouldn't mind a forum such as you suggested.
It just seems obvious however, at this point "off-topic" topics are just that here at the Gang and it appears they will remain so.
I've been very happy with the way this site and the way it has been run.
Sometimes when things are running good you hate to adjust them in fear of screwing it up.
Love the sight and thats because of the policing. A lot of other good sites in the past have simply turned into personal bash fest and off topic stuff because of there liberalism. A lot of pro shooters used to post up tons of helpful info but after being bashed by or called out by some guys shooting a bow for a week they don't help anymore.
This is one of the reasons I switched to traditional to stop dealing with chest thumpers and johnny come latelies. Love Trad and the community. Thanks Mods for the site. Joe

Good reminders here and it fits with a question Iv had for a couple of weeks. Two other trad hunters and I went on a late season Pheasent hunt but it was with a couple of gun hunters........
Iv been wanting to share our experiances and pics but was unsure how the pixs with both guns and trad equipment in them would go over. Is this a gray area or fall under the trad only rule?
Also would the Mods prefure us to send a PM and ask about a " gray post " like this or just post and see if it passes?
Thanks
Ben
No need to change anything here. It really is a unique realm, entity, community or whatever you want to name it but its spelled out pretty clearly that this is a "TRAD BOWHUNTING" forum and I cant imagine the time and effort that go into keeping it like that. I have other interests (fashion, Lindsay Lohan, stamp collecting and Taylor Swift) that I would enjoy discussing but this aint the place. If you need to discuss non TRAD BOWHUNTING issues just get in personal contact with other TG members through email, land line or hell,,, in person and discuss away. The real, non digital world is still out there you just need to seek it out. Thanks for the hard work and toil MODs.
Thank you Terry, and all the other Mods for keeping this site what I hope it stays...the first place I go to whenever I have time for myself.
Great job to all involved!

  Thanks to all involved in keeping this place running, I for one would be lost without it....

ROTFLMBO!!!!!
That reminds me of when I was in the 6th or 7th grade a few years back.
I had some trouble in the classroom and as a punishment the teacher said I owed her a 500 word essay by the next day.
Here is a small portion of my writing.
I had a cat, it got lost so I started calling my kitty. Here Kitty, kitty, kitty........and so on.
Can anyone guess I I got any credit for all those words and all that work....lol
Thank you Terry and all the moderators for sparing us that one and all the unknown to us others.
God bless,Mudd
PS: I hope everyone figures it out that it's not so much about the number of posts, it's belonging to a community or family and being around and letting us get to know you and for you to get to know us.
If you just want to sell something there are other places you can do that.
Hey Terry, Thanks for taking the time to explain that for me. Really didn't need to, but man I appreciate that!!! I just wanted to see some bows!
I've had posts pulled. I've pulled posts, honest mistakes happen and then there are agendas. We don't need agendas. A group of traditional bow hunters sharing experiences is what this place is about. There are plenty of forums on the web for other stuff, hard not to find a forum for just about every topic under the Sun. Forums that try to be Swiss Army knives and offer everything tend to have no focus and degrade into useless chit chat. There is enough of that out there, here is fine just the way it is.

This was not only one place with this kind of non-sense. It takes a while to clean up after people who want to be difficult.
It even says that TTT's and bump's don't qualify for 100 post's. Great example of not reading the rules! If it wasn't for the hard work and dedication of the administrators and the moderators none of use would be here. Appriciate all you folks do!
Matt
I came to this site for what it was(and still is). 25,000 plus have done the same. Nothing more and nothing less. Keep it the way it is.
I come here everyday, and enjoy this place a great deal. I think the mods do an excellant job at keeping this place what it was intended for "trad bowhunting" Thank's for a great place to visit! Jason

Woah - take it easy, man. Yes I get it and I understood the posts - I'm not an idiot. I was politely asking a question and posing an alternative.
As I said - the forum belongs to you guys and I'm not going to argue the point. If the direction is to limit discussion to a specific slice of what folks here might be interested in (and so it seems to be), that's 100% fine.
I was just curious.

A guy who posted "message recieved" on this very thread, with clappy hands and all, just posted about video games...and then he post another topic griping about us pulling it...and when a member asked him why he didn't just PM admin....he said he wanted public attention.
Wake up People!!!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Sheeeesh!
I guess some folks just aren't all that much into traditional bow hunting.
Good to see ya laughing Terry. I know running a site like this can be alot of police work and redundancy. Hope you never burn out on us! Just smack us with a ruler and we'll behave...promise.
This thread went from being very informative and educational to downright funny in a hurry. Terry, thanks for all you do.

Maybe his dog was the one who typed it!
I'm sorry, I had to go back and look.
And they continue to pile in...com'on fellas, think before you post please...
This is a "real life" trad bowhunting forum...not dream world and video game bowhunting.
If you have a questionable topic, just ask first.
Terry and mods THANK YOU for keeping this site on track! I know it is alot of work but we appreciate it!
As far as some of the posts continueing well you just can't fix stupid........(Unless you boot them!)
Seems like this happens about this time every year, must be cabin fever. :readit:
"Ignorance can be fixed, Stupidity is forever"
Terry, Rob, and others........THANK-YOU for all that you do to keep this the BEST traditional bowhunting site on the net.......PERIOD !!!

Don't even think it's "stupidity", common sense is all it takes.
If more people would "read the rules" you guys wouldn't have near the problems.

Just to show him how stupid he looked and sounded.
That's awesome Terry! Thanks for the laugh
That is great! Good for you Terry! I just had to explain to my wife why I am sitting at the computer with tears running down my face.
Good job all the mods and keep up ythe good work.
That's good stuff!
hehehHAHAHAhahahehe
I've had some posts shot down. No Biggie
But those posts mentioned are way outta the "fuzzy Grey" area and well into pitch black.
Funny Stuff
Good job all you Mods.
That is TO funny!
Thanks, I needed a good laugh!
Seriously, I guess I also need to be more careful...not necessarily on "what" I say in my post but on "how" I say it. The last thing I would ever want do is to offend someone...in any way.
Recently I may have done that unknowingly...had a post pulled...don't know for sure why but suspect it was a bit of slang that may have (or could) offended someone. If I did, I apologize.
Again, if that is the case, I am in full agreement with the mods and admin to do their thing...its gotta be that way.

Thanks for the hard work and toil MODs.
x2 thanks to all the mods!!!
Terry,
Thanks for info.
You know when you think about it, a guy coming in here and putting links to his sight when he isn't a sponsor is kinda like a shoplifter coming in your store and stealing. Gary
The thread stater told me I should calm down or come here (I'm 808grapplemonkey there)... I did try to talk some sense into him but alas... I failed.
To Terry and all you other mods... I leave you this to remember when crap like that comes up...
"Being responsible sometimes means pissing people off."
I believe it and live by it... good job to you all.
Many thanks for the support Guys!!!
Too funny....that same guy started a thread on another site slamming Trad Gang titled...
"The so called Gang of Trad Shooters"
And he wanted to talk about video games????
LOL
Saw that. Not playing.
For something like eight years I have moderated on a non-bow related website (traditional muzzleloading) and I understand the pain in always "being the adult." It is near impossible to keep people on a thread topic - like hearding cats. We all have different interests and ideas and the brain makes connections and leaps. That's what makes humans great.
Thank you for having this place to come and learn and share. Occasionally don't agree on some point with you or others, but that dosn't mean I don't appreciate the company. I can relax here. :campfire:
Thank you, Terry (and Rob and others). :clapper: Good job!
He would have been more correct to say Trad hunters!
Hence the whole point behind this thread and web site.
Thanks Terry & Mods for running a great Traditional Bowhunting Forum. I greatly appreciate all your hard work.
I visit this site everyday I can. Seriously, almost every day. And the one reason why is because I DON'T have to hear about taylor swift (i'm sorry I can 't stand the girl) your kid's honor roll enrollment, or the curse of today's youth, video games. When I first joined TG, I posted a topic on spears. I didn't know until now why it got pulled, and it makes perfect sense. If that is what needs to happen to keep this place the way it is, I would gladly eat the ego.
I learn more from my friends here on TG than I can on my own. This is a resource unlike any other, and it's value is immeasurable. Thank you Terry and gang, for keeping it something we can still enjoy.

The mods do a great job keeping this site on track and on the topic of traditional bowhunting....OUTSTANDING!!! I dont want threads on Bounce dryer sheets, tires for my truck, logsplitter on blabay,UFOs,video games or any other completely useless topics.........If I wanted to hear about that crap I'd unblock my sisterinlaw from my e-mail.

Dangit...two days in a row...abstract coffee art on my monitor!!!
That was TOO FUNNY!!!!!
I rarely post. I do enjoy reading & gleaning.
I comprehend the fact that you deal with a lot of junk.
And yet I scream DOUBLE STANDARD!
The personal messages in many posts are full of banned items. Scripture, equipment, quotes from anti or non-hunters, even a link to instinctive archer magazine which is not all bowhunting that is from a moderator. More than a few thou shalt nots are broken.
Coffee, egg & cheese art is not bowhunting related either...........ha ha...now where did I put that lip balm!
In your house that you made you are the boss in Terry's house he made he is the boss.In short if others don't like the way he keeps house ,don't come over. :campfire: I kinda like the way the house is kept. :coffee: We need a biscuit gremlin.
Needed a laugh this morning - but I know better than to bring my coffee to my computer . . . my monitor is still clean.
Terry, Rob, and Moderators - it's been said many times but thanks for all you do to keep this the best site around!

I respect your honesty, but not your tact. If this was my house you would be asked to leave.
I hear they are playing video games and talking about football on another site. Maybe you should join them?
Well I just went over and read that thread. Looks like it's time to weed the garden again.

x2!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you explain why a post asking a question about a bow that is not made by a sponsor is pulled? Yet when people talk about Bear,Blacktail, Martin, and other non-sponsor bowyers it is ok? Is there a good explanation for this? Does a sponsor not like some bowyers and just puts pressure on you guys or what?
Snag,
You answer was emailed to you....I guess you didn't get it...or read it....your answer is also on this very thread....it was answered previously when someone else asked this very question.

Seems odd that other non-sponsor bowyer's bows still remain. Blacktail bows show up in vast numbers with pictures, whole threads about them. It is just this one bowyer's bows that gets deleted. Well now I know. Just a little disappointed in this.
I don't know if it's been mentioned or not yet, but here goes nothing.
Everyone must remember that this is the Internet and this is a website created by people who wanted to build their own small world, and they designed it the way they envisioned it to be.
This is not free America once you step into this world, democracy does not apply here. So the accusations of double standards is really a mute point.
Think of it as a "Dictatorship" if you will.
With Terry and the other mods Dictating how this world will be run with it's own set of laws, conditions, and system of government.
That's the beauty of the Internet, you can design and rule your own world here and nobody can say otherwise as long as it's not illegal.
In a nutshell......if your not a good and upstanding citizen of this world you can be immediately exiled into cyberspace.
Whether you like it or not doesn't matter, buy whether you agree to abide by it or not matters the most.
I like this world in cyberspace and I hope that I can stay for as long as I like. I fully intend to because I understand how the laws in cyberspace work. I'm also a moderator on another site non-archery related so I can completely understand what the moderators here are dealing with.
The lines must be drawn somewhere or complete chaos will rule, then before you know it the website is a complete mess.
I've also had some posts yanked when I unknowingly over stepped my bounds and it didn't offend me in the least.
I hope I didn't offend anybody with those statements, but you all know it's the truth and sometimes the truth hurts.
Just abide by the laws that have been set forth on this site and everything will run smoothly for everybody.
That's just how I see it.
If people put as much effort into paying attention to the rules and guideline, as they do arguing about them this would never be a topic. In school if you argued with the rules and disobeyed them you got expelled. Keep it simple it's not that hard.
"Can't we all just get along"-Rodney King
I'm all for rules, laws, boundaries. It just seems like it applies to some and not all. Even, fair, constant, the same....? That's all I have to say.
Lets try this again.....

So, would it be FAIR if you were a paying sponsor and a company that wasn't was always having multiple threads?
No need to take it personal...
Heck, do you think all of us admin/mod types agree on everything??
Think about if fellas...
This is a great site. I spend far to much time on it. To Terry and the rest of the mods, "Thanks for a job well done".
I lied....I do have more to say about this.
Ok, I understand the "working the board" and "spaming" thing. But I just asked one question about a bow and how to set it up. That's all. If you are worried about an "innocent post" turning into a thread about supporting or advertising for a non-sponsoring bowyer then, once again, there are many more situations on this site that you should look at. If a rule is a rule then it should be enforced. I would think you would allow the question I asked to be answered. Then if it turns into a multiple praise-fest for this bowyer and his bows (which a current sponsoring bowyer can't stand to see) then pull it or ask that it stop. But to indiscriminately pull a thread, that just seems to be inconsistant with your own policy. I can live with or without this call. No big deal. It just seems like we are stepping lightly around the real problem here. A bowyer that does not like this bow being talked about at all. But they pay for sponsoring here. I am in business for myself and understand how this works.
Again Snag, You're making it personal and more of a big deal than it is...the more you complain, the worse it gets.
Move on man...
Curt: "Move on man..."
...good sense and perfect timing there...some of us need to have a good guy there ready to diffuse.
Snag:
This is just one reason I like it here...there is a genuine interest in making things better - that is why I cannot take things too personal...because it's not personal. Good stuff!
all i can say is WOW.
I love this site and can't thank the mods and Terry enough for all they do! I went to the other to post a "wanted" add for my quest for another BJ bow and stumbled across a bunch of garbage! No thanks!! I like this site just the way it is! Thanks Terry and the Mods, keep up the great work!!!!  :archer:
I posted this on the other thread....thought I should post it here....
Many thanks for taking the time to post your comments....anytime there is a bashing thread on another site, the contributing membership grows. This year there have been more in the 1st month than nearly all of last year.
We'll do something again this year just like always to give back the Contributor 2011 effort. Hopefully another hunt of some sort.
Thanks again.

Sounds great Terry! That reminds me, I need to update my contributor status. Thanks man.

Terry, I think I speak for the masses when I say this. We contribute because of what we ALREADY get out of Trad Gang. Not for a treat of some sort during the year. Not that it's not appreciated, but not necessary. $20.00 is pretty cheap for what we gain from Trad Gang. Thank You!!! :clapper:
Few times after my posts got pulled I realized what I just crossed. It may not be obvious to some, but I understand it better now about it's a privelege, not my right to post.
Thanks to admins and mods for their good work here to make it enjoyable.
You guys are too much....It took me two coffees this morning to update all the Contributors for 2011 that came in yesterday and last night.

It is so easy to feel the comradrie here even from as far away as the other side of the world. There are no obstacles to the fellowship here.
We enjoy perfect freedom to interact without the threat of being harassed. It thrills me to know that if, by chance someone would attack any one of us here for any reason, that person would be devoured by an army of brothers and sisters. We have learned what it means to truly respect each other and know that we are in turn respected by all.
