Well less than a year ago I made the draw for a traditonal only hunt in Oklahoma. Shortly after that I discovered this site and began my traditional journey. Like many I started shooting with a youth fiberglass longbow and quickly switched to a compound, all that time there was an old recurve with a twisted limb standing in my dad's closet we never even put a string on. Thanks to this site I learned that I could fix the limb and began shooting the old 45# Root recurve. Lots of questions, reading posts and almost getting in trouble with my wife for being "obsessed" allowed me to take a nice doe at 6 steps with a perfect double lung shot on my traditional hunt, which gets me in again next year. By the end of the season I had passed up a few other deer but never got the shot at the huge buck at my parents place, but it was a great season with trad gear. Now I plan on making a bow to hunt with next fall. This is mostly because of this site and all of you. Thank you Trad Gang and keep helping us nubes who ask all the same questions you have answered a thousand times, sometimes we just need an answer to "our" question. Thanks Gang!!
You have done well "Grasshopper"!
I'm sure you took some pictures of your 1st traditional deer right?
Please share with us.
Truthfully you should be very proud of your accomplishment.
Thanks for sharing.
God bless,Mudd
How sweet it is to have found your niche.
Congrats and sincerely hope you are succesful in achieving your pinnacle type goal next season.
Hey good for you!
You're in the right place.
There's nothing more fun than shooting a trad bow!
Post back soon, and of course we all appreciate pics of pretty bows....
Thanks guys. I hope I didnt come off as not apreciating the doe. It was an absolutely amazing hunt. She heard me at 3/4 draw and froze at 6 steps. I was only about 10 feet up in a tree, and was able to get it back and make the shot right behind the shoulder quartering away. On the weekend of my hunt only about 20 deer were killed out of close to 300 hunters. I was so proud. On top of that the doe gets you a pass back for next year. This is a military base with some truly huge deer so the hope is always there, but for never setting foot on the place untill the afternoon before the hunt and killing a doe at 6 steps two days later I could not be more proud. My first trad deer ever!!! Awesome. Alas cameras are not alowed on the hunting grounds and back at camp things were a little crazy and I just skinned her as quick as possile and hung her in the cooler to get back out in the woods as I still had a buck tag. 2 1/2 day hunt with military regulations kinda makes you crazy. I didnt even think about a pic untill I was back up my stand that afternoon. Oh well I can sill see her as she locked up before I shot.
You'll never forget the thrill of your first bow kill.
I can still picture the look in the eyes of my first bow kill , a 5 point buck, when he spun and jumped a fence.
My arrow caught him midair behind the shoulder at about 10 yards. Over forty years ago....
does are worthy opponents and smarter than many bucks
Brian: Keep up the good work, Trad hunting is one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences you can have. Other than being a good Husband, Dad and Grandfather. Enjoy It all Don

Something we have in common: "almost getting in trouble with my wife for being "obsessed""
Ain't it the truth!
See you around....

Many happy returns my man. Enjoy the ride. :notworthy:
You will never forget the first animal you drop..
Glad to have you here.
Congratulations and way-to-go! That first deer with a bow is a benchmark in your experience as a hunter. You will reflect on this success for the rest of your life. Good on ya!
Still working my way to 100th. Congrats!
Thanks guys. It was my first deer with a trad bow. I have taken several with wheels but this truly is something different. I wasn't sure what to think when I first started but now I am just as confident with the trad gear, sometimes more so than the compound. I would have never been able to get the shot off on that doe with wheels, trad gear is so smooth drawing and easy to aquire your target that for many close shots it is a definate advantage. Plus it is just such a cool feeling shooting and hunting with Traditional stuff. I realy can't wait to start hunting with a bow I made myself.
I just got my first recurve after 24 years of bow hunting.
I can't wait till oct1.
and I love it here, everyone is very helpfull and polite.
what more could you ask for.
Thanks
scott.
