I am going to order a pch x next month and can't decide what wood or combination of woods would look awesome. Really want it to be a eye catcher any suggestions?
Tulipwood
You're going to get a real amount of varied responses here! I say go with what you like. I myself am partial to Osage. It's darkening with age factor makes it one of the coolest bow woods I know.
Ya have a bunch of choices here.... but you already know that.
If you are going to arder an X bow you need to make the choice. Look at the woods available and then, ya might want to take a day or so (I don't know where ya are in IN) make a drive over to Nixa. I did and it was worth every gallon of gas.
I actually ordered a pretty basic PL II with grip options and just two little "tweeks" to the look. Its a PL II TD 64" but different grip, highlites like the lazer overlays except in fiberglass and a built out shelf. I like basic. My current PLX is a knock out with bocote limbs and cocobolo in the riser.
Good luck
There are a lot of pictures of widows available. Study wood combos, Find what you like and order a sweet lookin bow. Sounds pretty simple :readit: :knothead:
Good luck and most of all have fun.
I like the looks of the cross grain options that they offer. Do a search for some bows posted by Steel. Cody sure has some great looking Black Widows, probably the nicest looking ones in my opinion, and has a pretty good eye for wood combinations.
Lots of different wood options, lots of different opinions, lots of beautiful bows.I am kinda partial to the old Greybark myself, had 1 years ago and leaned it up against a tree and had trouble finding it more than once especially when a friend would move it on me.

Mooseman is that olive ash in the top picture? Really like the olive ash limbs. But trying to decide what riser would look good. On the cover of the 2010 catalog there is a picture of a pch with olive ash limbs with a dark riser I think it is either ironwood or kingwood. Kinda got that combination in mind.
Do a search, and you will find loads of options.
Hello to a fellow Hoosier! There are so many beautiful combo's that it makes really hard to pick. That top pic of mooseman76 is a dandy. Terry had a awesome looking widow on here a while back, if you do a search you'll probably find it. Good luck with your decision! Jason
I had a Coco bolo/Osage riser PTFX with bamboo cored limbs and Osage veneers. It was one handsome bow.
Similar to the Golden Anninversary bows they introduced to celebrate thier 50th year.
I have a psa with ironwood riser and olive ash limbs , it looks alot like the bow on there web site . Very nice looking , tuff made with the ironwood , and good camo in the woods .
Coco/osage. Zircote/osage. Kingwood/osage. Mine was Bolivian rosewood/myrtle and beautiful, but It didnt agree with me. I like my longbows best.
There are several sites that have numerous BW pics.
Just copy and past in the URL, you will find plenty.

Tulipwood gets my vote too. I've got a Tulipwood PAX with black accents... absolutely stunning. I'm partial to it though. I like the grain and colors of Tulipwood so much that I overlayed the pegheads (front & back) and neck heels on two of my banjos with it a few years ago (thanks to Jim Jones of Firefly Bows for grinding the Tulipwood stock down to the thickness that I needed).
Good luck... There's lots to choose from. I'm sure you will find a combo that works for you.

There was one on here a coupla' months ago that was really handsome-largely Osage and darker laminates. No reds, or blues-looked like wood.
Grey stained birdseye maple looks great also. I like the lighter woods because they tend to show their grain better. All good shooters.
The top bow in my post is a Pau Ferro riser and curly maple veneers. I really wanted it in my new longbow, but they didn't have any with that much figure in it. I went with cocobolo riser and yew limbs...Mike
Oh, and the 2010 cover bow has an ironwood riser with the olive ash limbs...Mike
Here is mine that I got from zmonster, bolivian rosewood riser with burly maple, no red stripes, white and black stripes in the riser instead.

Jarrod, that is a sharp looking bow. That is the one I would go with! Although, you can't go wrong with a Black Widow.

Can you post pics of this one? Sounds like a looker!
We differ much as to what appeals to us and what doesn't. Even though I don't own a BW, I find them aethetically one of my favorite appealing designs and that was even before the PCH.
You will need no luck in finding a wonderful combination. Indecision may end up being your nemisis since there are so many beautiful BW combinations. I used to have a large file of BW pics just because there were so appealing to me. The long list was actually widdled down to about five favorites and I wasn't evening planning on procuring one.
Get them to do one for you with macassar ebony and curley koa. I doubt that there is a more strikingly beautiful combination. God bless and good luck, Steve
i had a plv made in 09.it is ironwood.i love the bow.at a shoot last year,i saw a plx with birdseye maple lams.wow what a bow.i wish that i would have took my time and looked at other wood choices.as soon as you pick one,you will see one you like better.take your time and look around.they make some great bows.good luck on your choice, steve
Mac and koa looks awsome. cocabola and wenge or macassar does too. Ironwood and

Now THAT sounds like a beautiful combination! Especially when the Osage begins to turn as TW mentioned above... ;)
Heres your bow.....Kingwood riser, White and black stripes...no red! Same with the limb tips! Skin the limbs....Canebrakes would make em drool! Throw in some antler knobs.....uh!? uh!? :saywhat:
