Title: Planning a hog and javelina hunt
Post by: Lee Lobbestael on January 21, 2011, 11:56:00 PM
Hi guys, me my brother and my buddy are starting to plan a hog and javelina hunt. We are pretty low income guys so we have to plan it two years from now. I know that sounds like a long way out but thats what we can do! Since we have so muc          h time, i figure we should have plenty of opportunity to plan a good hunt. We are all trad hunters so wherever we go will have to cater to that. Also we would like to go somewhere without any fences. We want to hunt for five days with a very good chance of getting shot opportunities at both hogs and javelina. We were thinking somewher in south west texas would be best. Can any of you guys point us in the right direction? Any input is much appreciated!

+1 I will be there this year. PM me after the middle of March and I will let you know what I think.

You can't go wrong with a Javi hunt in West Texas with 7th Age.

Good luck.

Paul

Unless you have to have a javelina I'd recommend South Carolina and the lowcountry for hogs. Lots of them and lots of cover. Really good bow territory. Fairly inexpensive hunts and travel too. Be a little closer to you than southwest Texas.

Lee- There's one who advertises on here. Ray Hammond I've never hunted with him but I know his area and there are tons of hogs there. Be careful WHO you book in the Savannah River swamp area. There are a few who are excellent and a few who are less than ethical and have had severe legal troubles thru the years.

I do have a friend who did guide there for a long time. I will PM his number to you. Call him and see what he's up to. Last I heard (just a few months back) he was still guiding hog and deer. He put me on more hogs than anyplace I have ever been at any time. Big ones, little ones, tiny ones. Plus he is a big bow hunter. Not trad but still he can put you on them.

For a hog\\javi combo hunt, it is hard to beat Curtis at 7th Age Bowhunting.  No fancy lodge or anything, but Curtis will go the extra mile to give you an opportunity for success.  If you go, listen to what he says - he knows a lot and is willing to share with others...  Mark

Curtis is NOT a high fence hunt, just fence to keep the cattle in. This will be my 2nd year hunting with Curtis.
