Title: black widow PA PSA question
Post by: canadian on January 21, 2011, 06:59:00 PM
Hi all, I am interested in a Black Widow recurve and have a question about the PA and PSA models.  Are they pretty well the same bow except for the take down one piece thing?  Do the risers have the same specs, the "horns" on the PA look a little more pronounced in the pics I have seen but I can't be sure. Do they shoot similar?  I have never taken down any of my three piece bows so I am leaning towards the one piece but I do like the looks of a 3 piece.  Thanks for your help. Jonathan

I havnt had any experiance with the psa but my pa is a pleasure to shoot, very quiet with a heavy arrow and is everything i want in a huntn bow. You wont be disappointed in my opinion.

I have a PSAIII and am interested in the PA. I've been studying them this evening and comparing.  I think your assessment is correct --the horns on the 1-piece seem a bit more pronunced. I also think the back of the curve down the horn to the limb is very nice and flows a bit better than the Takedown.

For most bows that come in TD and 1-Piece versions I prefer the TD. But in this case, I think I like the looks of the PA better than the PSA -- especially since I have bou coup TD bows.

Just picked up a few weeks ago a PSAX, Asbell grip and I love the weight of the riser, and for me the riser is perfect in length, not too big , not too small, just right. I can and do shoot this bow all day. Sheer pleasure.

I would LOVE to have me a 58" PA in all tulipwood. Drop dead gorgeous!

I've owned both, same specs and at the same time. One was a PSA 11 and the other was a PGA with both being 62" and 51# at 29". Standard grips tillered split finger and the only difference I could see using the same arrow from one to the other was that the PGA was considerably lighter in weight. I wound up selling the PGA and still kick myself.

In my opinion they will shoot very very similar to one another.  I am a one piece fan - mainly because I just prefer the clean lines of a one piece bow but I also believe my PA and PTF to be quieter than the take downs I owned.  The mass is also less as Grouse states because the one piece has less phenolic in it.
