Can anyone comment on them, shootability etc?
Also how big is the grip, I like a fairly narrow one.
I have not shot one and only seen pics of them. But I do like what I have seen and from what everyone has said about them you can't go wrong with owning one.
Herb must be doing something right, he's been in business for long time.
I own four- soon to be five and the wife has one. Herb is a great bow builder!
Pronghorns are the finest shooting longbow that I've shot. They are smooth drawing, quick, very quiet, and no recoil upon release. I prefer the 3-pc. takedown because of more mass weight. The bowyer (Herb Meland) is super to deal with and a gentleman. My favorite is a 62", 48 lb. @ 28". In regards to the grip size.... in my opinion, a medium grip. Very comfortable in hand.
They are the best of the best ... I would highly recommond them and the boywer.
I think they are great bows. I currently own 14 of them, 8 of those are his Ferret recurves. I shoot the longbows 95% of the time now, just love them.
The grip is fairly narrow, it may be what you would like.
I have a 1 PC Pronghorn. 64" 83# at 28". It is beyond awesome. Fast, powerful, quiet, hits where I look.
Matt
I had a 56" 1 pc. The bow weighed less than a pound, but had absolutely no hand shock. The grip was on the small side and i guess you could say was quit narrow. The grip really fit my small hands and i liked it a lot. I over bowed myself so i had to sell it. The 3 pc bows have larger grips.
You cant go wrong I have several. The grip is fairly narrow. Shootability? IMO they have it.
pictures??
Herb makes an awesome bow with zero handshock in my takedown.

I own several and love them all. Not a better bow around! Smooth, quiet, fast! and very accurate! :archer2:
Here are a few from Shedrock.
Hopefully some of these will give you an idea of what the grip is like.

im gonna have one one of these days for sure.
Smooth, Quiet, affordable, Honorable bowyer
I could use superlatives all night. You won't regret buying one. You would regret selling one.
One of the best guys you will ever deal with and he builds a very fine bow. I have a new one on the way in a couple of months.
Herb has been making great shooting bows for a fair number of years.
I've got one coming soon also, can't wait!!! When did you order your's Doug? I think I'm getting close, but I hate to bother Herb by checking.
I had the 3pc one years ago and sold it. Hated myself ever since. That is until Stickhorse came to my rescue two seasons ago. The first one had a fatter grip, this one has a smaller grip. All the above said. And she ain't getting out of my sight. (http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z232/mrvicattheriver/IMG_0029-1.jpg)
Mine is great! Bought from a fellow 'Ganger and it won't be leaving my side. It was built as a workhorse and I use it as intended. I doubt you'll be disappointed if you buy one.
They are very stable, smooth, and quiet. I kinda like 'em...Doc

I picked up a new Pronghorn Longbow about two months ago just so I could go shoot the Longbow Safari in July of this year, it is now the only bow I shoot I call Norm at Blacktail Bows and cancel my order because I am getting another Pronghorn. So now to the good stuff I shoot 62"52@28 it draws smooth as silk and NO HAND SHOCK and once you get the arrows figured out she will shoot were you look I can group bare shaft with my fletched arrows out to 50 yards, she like Easton Axis 500, I have found some woods arrow that are working for me now just got to work some small things out first (i.e making Footed shafts). Life is good for this Longbow hunter >>>----->.

Tippit, I thought I had "pronghorn fever" but you got REALLY REALLY got it. Oops, It must be contagious. I feel it comming on again.
The grip seems narrow to me. not uncomfortable but fits very nice. It is very quiet and spits an arrow more than fast enough, I have shot faster bows that were just as quiet though, the sapphire hawk and the new stalker longbow come to mind, Pronghorn as a large following and for good reason they are very good bows,
FerretWYO, if you don't mind me askin? Where did you find the 2 arrow 3 blade quiver? Great bows and pic's!
I've got two and LOVE them.
This first is Curly Ash...

And my go-to bow is the Green Machine...

I bought mine from Wyoming Chief off here after my #1 bow broke well into bow season. I got in the mail in the morning, tried three different shafts during the day, used the ones I had the most of as they all shot good from it. Went out that evening and killed a doe. That was three years ago and I've killed over ten deer with it now.

Loved seeing all the pics and reading all the comments on an obviously well thought of bow...this should influence anyone searching for a great bow.
What is his average turn around time between order and to your door?
Give him a call I know my dad ordered one in November and it was about four months then.
Great bows. Took about 4 months for mine. Herb is a class act.
other than the fact its a recurve are there any noticeable differences in grip, "shootability", weight with his recurves vs. longbows
Someone who has both care to comment which ones they like better?
Both grips are the same, pretty much, except the Ferret's grip is slightly larger. I like them both, but shoot my longbows now most of the time.
FYI, Herb will not build any more recurves. :(
I had a three piece all osage and a one piece curly maple riser and elm lams. The grip on the one piece was more narrow and the distance from back to belly was greater than that of the take down. I liked the one piece grip much better. It pointed better for me.
It was still 4 months when I put my order in December.
Herbs bows are well worth any wait time involved.
Many years ago, after finally hanging up my compound from frustration, I went a month without shooting an arrow. A good friend of mine came over with a Pronghorn and said lets have some fun. I ordered one that evening and have been hooked on Traditional Archery every since.
