Anyone else use electrical tape for their nock point? Am I crazy? It seems to work well... :dunno:
I have used heat shrink it works good too.
I like to tie on string nock points. But I have to admit there is more than one bow on the rack that has a temporary Duct Tape nock point that has been on the bow string for a long time.
Crazy, I wont label anyone. But I would think in the heat it could slide around. Tie your own it's easy.
Masking tape works well when you are looking for the sweet spot. I use dental floss after I find the spot.
i have used masking tape, and the white medical tape workes great too
I've never used ele tape for a nocking point but ele tape will come loose or slide if it gets wet. I would use a different type of tape if it was me.
I used gorilla tape for nock points and a thinner layer above and below the nock points on my daughters bow. She was having trouble with using a tab she shoots 20-40 arrows a night (she's 4) and her fingers were getting sore. I haven't had to change or replace it yet.
Used it for years and it never moved.
I use duct tape for temporary nock points before tying in... Red Green is my idol!
Tied on is so easy and solid -- start with surgeon's knot, 5 half-hitches, and end with surgeons and melt the tag ends -- 3-4 minutes tops. I've even used painter's tape in an emergency.
Use duct tape all the time ! Only have to replace a couple times a year and I shoot thousands of arrows before replacing.
I think of all the bad choices, "black tape" would be the worst. Much better option is, as Roy (Bowwild)said, "tied on is so easy and solid"
I know a few trad hunters that will only use this method. Durable, cheap, easy...'nuf said...
I have used tape alot to find my nocking point. But not for hunting, all it would take to move the tape is a good snag on anything, like when your pulling your bow up on your pull up rope or grabing your bow by the string. Or as said before, bad weather! I like the smallest brass nocking points, they have the blue rubber in them and are tiny but work great on today's skinny strings. They don't weigh much more than a tie in, there 4.4 gr. I just put one on my scale.
I have used 1/8" strips of masking take as an intitial temporary nock mark with a new bow.
I like to use small nylon cable ties for temporary nock points when I am tuning in. They go on easy, they are cheap and they come off easy best thing I have found.
I use masking tape for a temporary nock point when setting up a new bow.
Mr. gobblegrunter,
We used the black electrical tape for a temporary mark on a couple of our bows. That was several years ago and it is still in place, working perfectly! Neither heat of summer, rain, sleet or snow (cold weather) has bothered it one bit.
Never did get around to replacing it with the brass nocks we normally use. Maybe next summer?
Best Wishes
There was a fellow on MBBII that was from Colorado and he used heat shrink tape.
Frank X.
I noticed my tied on dacron nock staring to come undone while I was out hunting so I used a small bandage from my first aid kit in my pack to tape over it ... that was a few years ago and it is still place and works just fine. I used only the tape part not the gauze section of the bandage.
Thanks everyone, the electrical tape began as a temporary knock-point, but just like some of the others have mentioned, it hasn't budged, and I've just kept using it that way. I figure it might continue working because in my line of work, we use the stuff for everything! Who knows though...just curious if I was the only one doing this on my own little "crazy planet"! :D :p
If it works for you just keep using it.
I'd imagine it would slide about.
Nope it doesn't move as much as you think, I have used tape for years.

+1
Tie one on after the sweet spot is found! FWIW, the white medical tape doesn't move, and it becomes darker as it gets dirty.
Come on now. Reliable nocking points and material is a dime a dozen. Way too frugal.
I use waxed dental floss. Wrap and heat lightly with lighter to melt wax. Stays in place for a long time-it's also cheap.

Not so fast there. I've never used any of these "frugal" type of nocking points but these guys just may be on to something. It sounds like there might be several good alternatives to the traditional ideas on nocking points in which we've all grown accustomed to. I just may have to try one myself! I know Gorilla tape is awfully strong and sticky.
i tie my nocks on.i use old bow string material.after i tie one on,i use gorilla glue to stick it forever.it works very well for me.you can find it in the how-to section.good luck, steve
I've used electrical tape but prefer the strapping tape with the fibers in it. Never had a problem with either moving. I have had the brass nock points break serving however. I'll "stick" with the tape.
I don't like metal nocking points, so taped or tied ones are what I use. It has nothing to do with frugality, else I wouldn't shoot carbon arrows or premium broadheads...or custom bows! :archer:
I've had serving damaged from metal knocks, but they are easy to change for setting up purposes.
duct tape...works great..easy to move and replace....i like it much better than brass nocks..and it works great with my tab.
Tape? elect, duct, masking......

Another dential floss user. Tie it on just like serving your string. Put a couple dots of fletch tite glue and your ready to go. A packet of dental floss in the hunting pack doesn't take much room if you need to re-do it in the field.
I've tried a lot of things and I favor a tie on. I use string serving material melt the cut off end and appy a small drop of super glue. Keep the glue off the serving. Soak up any excess glue with corner of a paper towel. These nock points never come loose and can be removed by carefull knife work without damage to the serving.
