I'm thinking of my custom order with Myrtle Veneers, I'm wondering about Riser Woods either natural or Dymond wood?
Any Pics? I know Myrtle as all veneers can vary from light to dark...
Thank you

I love Macassar Ebony with Myrtle veneers....AWESOME combo!

Any dark wood will look good with myrtlewood.
-
Here is myrtle with cocobolo riser. I think Ragnarok is correct - any dark wood will look great with myrtle.
I am amazed at how different this myrtle is from Idaho Curt's

Love myrtle veneers with a bocote and dark walnut riser. I agree with Clay also dark woods look the best. Don
-
The myrtle onj that Tall Tines is to die for. I have two gunstock blanks I bought 30 years ago that are like that but I can't stand the thought of cutting them up.
-
Who would have thought Myrtle was that beautiful?
I can't wait to see Ethel.
-
I have myrtle venners are the belly of my bow and it looks great with the brown actionwood riser, and bubinga and leopardwood accents. Not as figured as IdahaCurts myrtle, it is more a creamy yellow and mottled brown.
-
I'm having a Silvertip TD Recurve made with Macassar flares in a rosewood dym. riser and myrtle (from Idahocurt)veneers.
I have (below) a Blacktail Elite VL (1-piece) with a myrtle footed Cocobolo riser and the same combon (coco and myrtle) limb veneers.

The riser on my Tall tines is macasser, the limbs on the right are myrtle.

The limbs on this Blacktail are highly figured myrtlewood. Very hard to find.

I have a Toelke Whip that has Myrtle veneers with a Bacote riser. I also have a Robertson Vision Falcon with Myrtle veneers and a ebony riser. Both look great and with the various colorations of Myrtle many different woods will match quite well.
-
Black Widow Tiger Myrtle PLX......so sick! I can post pics if anyone wants to see them.
-
The four laminations in the middle are gonna be used on one set of limbs for my Blacktail Elite VL this coming spring. The same piece of wood that the laminations came from is gonna be used in the riser also.
It oughta be a "looker"

Any pics I've seen of bows in Myrtle and Zircote made me say WOW.

Don that is some very serious myrtle, what other wood will be in your VL riser?
-
Winterhawk! It was you that got those! I just missed out. That will be an awesome Blacktail! Can't wait to see it.

Right now........I'm kinda torn between cocobolo and gaboon ebony with the second set of limbs being footed with zircote, if I choose the gaboon ebony. If I choose the cocobolo, they will be footed with cocobolo.
Decisions..........Decisions......... :dunno:

I am also torn about whether to use the tiger myrtle as the footing in the riser, or to use it in the main body. :banghead:

Just keep in mind that myrtle isn't as heavy as cocobola. I was going to use it as the main riser wood also. But I have choosen against it because I don't want to give up the weight. The color in the veneers would go great with cocobola and ebony...for what it's worth.
When I talk with Norm Sat. at the annual trad banquet here I'll tell him you want to switch limb veneers with mine! :biglaugh:
-
I just sent the deposit to Norm for a extra set of limbs for my Blacktail Elite. It was built in 1999 and it is Bolivian Rosewood. I picked myrtle for the veneers, I hope they look as good as the ones above. I had to get lighter limbs. I hate to admit it, but I just can't pull the original ones anymore.
-
A tough call either way Don I guess with zircote limb footing I'd foot the riser with ebony leaving the awesome tiger myrtle for the main wood. The riser footing section in a Blacktail is fairly substancial and with an ebony footing I think that you would still maintain good riser weight.

There it is. The myrtlewood king of bows!
-
Notttttttttt badddddddddddddddd!!!!!! Myrtlewood lover here.
-
Thomas,
How is the weight in the riser compared to heavier mass woods ??? When I spoke with Norm he said that myrtle is a pretty lightweight wood and I like the stability of some heavier wood in my risers.
DANG..........that thing sure is purdy !!!

I just got a set of myrtle veneers in today from Curt. Really great service and great veneers. Coming soon to a bow near you!! Grin. Actually I am going to build a bow for a Trad ganger who just sent me the most gorgeous Oregon Walnut for the riser. It will get a set of carbon limbs and prairie rattler on the back and Curts myrtle veneers on the belly. This is going to be one awsome bow. Lord Willing.
God Bless you all and have a great day, Steve
-
Steve,
Can't wait to see what "magic" you will work with them!
Curt
-
I have a custom on order and all these myrtle veneers are spectacular! Now I'm confused again...Shawn
-
Steve I'll watching for your creation!! Curt's crazy veneers and a special chunk of walnut from the new bows owner, this should be a WOW ++++ :)
-
Great looking bows, all of them.
I really like the myrtle, walnut bow.
