Title: 2117 shooters, whats your set-up?
Post by: ThePushArchery on January 17, 2011, 05:34:00 PM
Wondering what you fellow 2117 shooters are using for tip weight, bow weight, and arrow length.

Search tool isn't bringing up much on this.

Thanks!

I have a 54# silvertip! I draw it to 30" though. It's 60", fast flight. I shoot full length 2117's with 125grn muzzy phantom's. I paper tune and this setup with good release will shoot a perfect hole from 0 to 20 yards. Plenty good for me! Jason

I received some 2117's on a buy from the classifieds.  I shot them to see how they would work.  I shoot a 53# recurve at 28".  I draw the bow to 28".  They were shooting so well out of my bow I accidently broke, felt good until I realized I broke an arrow.  Anyway, upon closer inspection I noticed the previous owner had mounted a screw to the back of the insert and wrapped a little electrical tape around the end where the head had been.  I took it out, weighed it and it was around 115 grains.  I was wondering why they were smacking the target.  I shoot a 29" arrow with a 145 grain broadhead or field point.  The shoot really well.  I haven't paper tuned them or anything like that.  But according to Stu Miller's calculater they're the right set up.  Good luck.

I shoot Bear T/D's both A & B in the 55# to 60#
range. Also Shoot 58" Shrew's  55#,56#,58#
3 Black Widows PAV 55#, 56#, 58#.

All these bows shoot 2117's Autumn Orange shafts
cut 28 1/2 " with 145 gr target points or Magnus
heads 145gr. Arrows weigh 530 gr

I guess I'm lucky these arrows were all bare shaft tested which each bow and came out winners.

That's my case and may not work for some else.

Bob Lee Signature, AMO 62", 60# @ 28", 29" draw length, 30 inch arrow with 200 grains up front.  According to Stu's spine calculator, I'm badly underspined, but my 2117s fly great (better than 2216s and 2219s).  Go figure.

44# @ 28" Black Widow PTFX with a D97 string and an Asbell grip.  Cut 3/16" past center.  Arrow length is 29-3/4" with a 125gr point.  I draw 28".  I thought this is way too stiff an arrow but they bare shaft real well.  I have another, similar Black Widow (46# PA) with a standard grip and shoot 1816s best with it.  With 200gr up front.  Quite a difference.

69# @ 28" D-Style longbow. Arrows cut to 28 3/4 inches (i draw 28), with the shafts weighted the full length with plastic brake hose with a single layer of fabric tape to snug to I/D of arrow. I use 145 gr points, and get a finished weight of 765gr.

It's not a true EFOC arrow, but the extra arrow mass makes that bow a pleasure to shoot.

Pronghorn longbow:  60", 59#@28", with 29-inch draw.
Easton XX75 with unibushing: 31 inches
150-grain Wensel Woodsman, 3x5-inch turkey feather fletches

This same arrow flies very well out of a Bear Kodiak Special 55#@28".
