I always had a great admiration for Glenn St Charles for what he has done for the Sport and for how this humble giant acted all his life long.He is always been a down to the earth person when he could have been in the cover pages of all hunting magazines, but this is what a true outdoorman is all about, with deep traditional moral values.
So at the 2009 P&Y banquet in Denver I had a chance to take my Bear TD Green Stripe handle there to be signed by him.
When I asked him if he could sign it he kidded me:give me a 20,and as stupid as I am I agred.
His son Jay told me,he was just jocking and he signed the riser.
Last September I went hunting for elk in Colorado with the will to christen that bow,but I had my worst elk season ever. When I left the woods I had the sad new of his passing,so I was much more determinated to take a game with Glenn.

My Glenn Bear TD custom in lazy action during my Colorado elk hunt.
Someone is been more lucky or better hunter than me,there.
Ooooh...
I think Felix is spinning a yarn!

Glenn leaning against my olive tree before living for Colorado.
I had not many chances to hunt later after then,my own loved Dad passed away when I was going to leave for WV for some Whitetail deer hunting. So I was able to pick up my bow again scouting and hunting wild boar here in Italy.

Wild boar are everywhere here, but really spooked because really heavy hunting pressure, almost no end season,in this side of the Country.

They love water and share some country with watrefawls, duck, red neck fagians, hares, foxes and few roe deers,in this side.

Scouting pays off.Plenty of tracks
Splendid, splendid!
Ben,this country isn't as big or as wild as yours but sometime we are blessed with something.
A perseverant bowhunter has always his chance.
This signed bow is a Bear TD handle Green Stripe 1982 with Rose Oak limbs #1-60# @29".
Bow is quiet, stable, smooth and loves heavy arrows.
CX 350-291/4 with 130 grs insert and WW 150grs,total weight is 680grs.
I have spent many days scouting the area and all I have seen were lot of night tracks and a bunch of 11 piglets, going by themselves of 2 different sizes. The bigger were in the 80# range and the smaller maybe 50#.But I knew some bigger were around.Coming back to the Jeep I saw 4 really big ones one night.
I was able to pattern the small ones as they left the wood lots for feed in some old rise field.I had them one evening at 20 feet one night but they were facing me and the smaller were the first on the line so I didn't shoot.
Then I had my chance as they were entering the rise field at 20 but once again the smaller ones were the closest.I drew and released just when it started running toward the othersand missed it.So I decided to move on for something better.
Felix,
Beautiful country.
Good luck in your Boar hunting.
Pat
Pat,pics are loading.!
My Buddys on a roll !Have at er!I had some insight on this story and was really looking forward to it.Good things that happen to Felix are so deserving, even though were thousands of miles apart he is a true friend in so many ways.
People grab some Popcorn and get commfy as this is going to be good !
I moved in a place where a friend of mine owns a property and not many peolpe hunt there. He can check if the boars are feeding on his pasture and then he let me know how it is going on.Good friends are the salt of life!
So he told me the boar were there again after few weeks of nothing.
I went there for many days never being able to find them since they were arriving really late at night.Plus the weather was become really foggy in the afternoon. But finally on Saturday night..
Thanks Steve you are always too kind with me.
Your friendship is very precious to me like the knife you gave me as Christmas present...

OOOH, we jumped to the end of the story. Looking forward tothe filler as to how that hog jumped up on the hooks to get skinned out.
Yes Mudd,Glenn deserve all our ammiration and honors.
Sorry I have to go to work, come back with in 6 hours.
Great sentiments Felix, and fantastic pics of your home turf!
Thanks for taking us all along.
I hope you find internal peace after the passing of your father.
congratulations ! I hope to see you soon !
How do you process the Boar in Italy, do you cure the hams?
Nice reward for your efforts. Congratulations!
Cotechino, prosciutto, pancetta, oh, and cacciatorre sounds much nicer than bastardelli!
Killdeer~ Have a nice day at work, dear. :D (I have a holiday!)
Way to go and congrats with the nice hog.
Nice, Felix. Waiting for the story. Thanks for honoring Glen. I love reading those old stories of Fred Bear, Glen, and the other founding fathers of modern archery.
Back here posting and butchering, you don't immagine how tough is to field dress a winter hog,the skin is very hard on knives!!
Andrew, as you can immagine we have tons of recepies for coking wild boar and they change from region to region. Not in all the climate zones you can cure the hams to have "prosciutto crudo" that is a ham let it dry naturally and then sliced uncooked, one of the best way to make it.For that you need a dry,but not too much, air;where I live there is way too much humidity. Most of the time we make roast and marinate the meet.Maybe one day I'll post some recepies on the right forum.
Killie, you need to visit one time to discover a new world.
Felix,
Thanks for sharing - was nice to get home and relax reading your posts. I just got home from delivering 675 pounds of venison to a locker to have jerky made for our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Total of just under 2,000 pounds up there now - should make a little over 1,000 pounds of jerky...
Good luck on the butchering!
Craig
...Saturday afternoon become with heavy fog setting in and everything was covered by its cape, the noises, the lights I guess that also the smells couldn't go really far.I have discovered a place where the hogs like to come looking for East India chestnuts, they don't like them earlier having something better to feed, but this time of the season they take what they can.
I found a good spot like a kind of a terrasse were to stand and there is just a single trail to go there, because on the back there is a high wall made for containing the hill.It was wet and cold but I was tired of loosing time with out success so I was determinated to stay as long as possible. It was almost dark when a ghost suddendly appeared 10 yards from me,without any sound and started to look for something to heat.
I was cold but ready,I could see just the shape of its body and when it was quartering away I relised my arrow.Well 10 yards aren't a long distance but the bow is incredibly quiet, true not advertising, and....
I don't look very happy here, let me see another shot.
Welcome Craig,I really appreciate your help to the great guys that endanger their own young lifes for the freedom and the security of us all.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
all the noise come from the arrow striking in a bone and the yelling of the boar.It didn't moved but I could hear its heavy difficult breath, now it was laying on the ground.I quckly decided to take end at its sufferences and I left fly a second arrow, the deep breath stopped and the silence was around me again. The flash light was not enough to see through the fog and maybe I had a better view without it.It was a sow and bigger of what I figured,I guess 170-180#.No way to pull it alone in that muddy terrain,so i called my friend for some help.I had no camera then and the pics are from the Sunday when it was already field dressd.
Glenn takes pride of its trophy, thanks great Father to mentor me to bowhunt and to inspire my love for the sport.I hope to take you at many more other bowhunts.
Felix, WAY TO GO :clapper: Beautiful country and great story my friend.
The first broadhead made an impressive job passing high through the shoulder blade and cutting a artery rhusting in the spine.
Maybe it was already a fatal hit the second broke a rib on the enter took a piece of heart and the lungs and passed trough breaking in 2 pieces.Overkilled!
