All the pix the same bow? Can You post the name and spec's of it Please..
Several different bows. 66" Wesley 50@27. 66 Cheetah 56@28. 66" Cheetah 59@28. 64" Apex Predator Cumberland 52@27 and a Homemade 66" 52@27. All sweet shooters.
I enjoy shooting Hill style bows more than any and they have a way of pulling a fellow that most folks don`t understand. To me its the way a longbow is supposed to be. Not starting a fuss with other bow styles just admitting an addiction.RC
Quite an addiction i'd say...well done!
Admitting you have an addiction is the first step to recovery... you've openly admitted... and from all of your harvest pics we can see you've "recovered"... a lot.
Thanks for sharing and I hope you never get over your addiction. ;)
Nice RC!
I really appreciate you helping to feed my addiction vicariously via your photos.
Great job!
I am also grateful that because of you I have a beauty of a 66" Cheetah 56@28. Thank you!
God bless,Mudd

Which one is this? I like the grain ..
Awsome pics. All this talk about Hill style bows is going to make me have to build at least one. Trouble is I will end up selling it and then have to build another one, anyway you get the idea. Those are sure some pretty snakes . You ought to skin one of those bows with them. God Bless you. Steve
Craig ought to give you a bow as much stuff as you've killed with a Hill. Sure like the yellow on Marty's bow too. Get over this way give me a call. I went today in the cold rain after reading about you & your bud in the magazine. Nada. They're here just very nocturnal.
You're a gun, RC!
I'll play too.

I ran the brace height way too high on that too-short Redman, before I knew any better. I sure can hardly wait for my new, better-length-for-me, Redman to arrive!
I know these photos are posted in a few places, but it was such a magic moment to capture on film that I hope you'll indulge me for sharing them again.

Ahh,that would be an understatement. Cool pics Ben.
thanks for sharing the pics. Can't wait to get strong enough for my Hill's again.
In the first snake picture, are those leaves there Sweetgum? They look familiar.
Between you & Ben we're lucky to have anything left in the woods to hunt! Put you both in the same woods & animals would be coming out w/their hands up. R&B, you're big draw here. Thanks for your excellent stories & pix.
Somebody suggest a free online photo service (not Photobucket as I wrecked there already) & I'll post some pix.
Thanks for posting the pictures RC and Ben!
That "colorful" bow with the small rattler is a Cumberland Apex bow. Marty makes a fine Hill bow.
Good pics Ben. Love those Goat pics and the country they come from. What kind of broadhead are you shooting those big pigs with?RC
Great pic's Ben. They make a guy lust for a trip to OZ!
Looks like your in hog heaven :bigsmyl: cant wait to get back down to Georgia , oh and awesome bows
What GREAT pics!
I don't have the time to hunt as much as you guys, and therefore not as much expertise and thus not so much success... but seeing and hearing your stories is awesome!!!
Great pics guys . RC do you know Jeff Baxley? Good friend of mine.
Great pics!! I gotta get down and do some hog hunting someday.
Kevin
Those are some great pics! Thanks for sharring.
You guys had to go and post those goat photos, darn it. To me, those horns have to be one of the coolest trophies out there and I'll never get down under to try for one (couldn't physically if I was able to make the trip) I was at a 3D Saturday with my latest, a string follow shoot off the hand, and they had a nice goat 3D Rhineheart target, first time I've seen that one. Might have to see if they'll sell me just the head as a wall mount! :^)

My eyes are bugged and jaw dropped at seeing all those great pics. Pretty sure I now suffer from a major case of Hill envy.
Rooselk,
Hill envy is easily cured with a few hundred dollars and about 4 to 6 weeks of fever sweats and nervous anxiety.....

RC with all those snake kills how come you don't have skins on any of the bows.

I hate snakes. I`m glad I see`m ahead of time but don`t want them around me much less on my bow.RC
Great pics!! Now that is walking the walk!!
I could look at pics like this all day! Hopefully, I'll make some of my own this year. Will strictly be shooting the Tembo all year!

Go for it Steve!! I'd love to shoot one made by your hand.
Did I do enough encouraging? Would it help if I said more? ...Cause I think you already know that I can...lol

I've always said you don't want to shoot a Hill unless you want to kill something. Just like the way they feel and look. Really enjoyed this post. Thanks RC. Looking forward to sharing a campfire with you someday.
awesome pics
Yes sir, this is my kinda thread. Completely away from the FOC, spine weight, arrow length, 6 or 16 strand string and the rest of that stuff. Just get hip deep and straight to the good stuff.
I'm on here looking for the pictures of RC's new-to-him Hill bow.
Has anyone seen it yet?
I hope he isn't waiting until later today until after he's killed a couple of hogs and a few deer long with a mess of squirrels before he posts pictures...lol

I doubt you will have to wait very long either way. A dead critter does have a way of rounding out a bow pic however.
Great thread and even better photos! I like it!

Yup. You guys got to me at the end of December. Arriving next week.
Great thread! I guess I'd have to agree with RC, there's just something about 'em. Don't need to be the fastest, or the most mild mannered, or anything else. For some, they are just the most nostalgic. That got me anyway. Yep, I've had the same love affair.

That last pic turned out a little blurry, but that is one of my "rehab" bow. I built a little 40#er this Summer to try to get back in the swing of shooting trad bows again. Been a long process, but I can say for sure that I absolutely LOVE shooting that little Hill style bow and at the end of the day that's got to be worth something :)
Awesome pics Stan, thanks for sharing! Glad to see your making it back...best of luck! :clapper:

Very cool pics Stan !
Congrats Stan keep at it.Nice pictures thanks for sharing.
Be warned. . .
There is a downside to Howard Hill bows.
First you innocently buy a Howard Hill bow, and then, before you know it, you find yourself doing crazy things like this.
Rik, that is awesome! What's the specs on your bow to take down such an animal?
Specs on the bow in above photo:
66 inches long
75 pounds at 28 inches
Wood arrow tipped with a 160-grain Grizzly (860 grains total weight)
15 yard shot.
When the arrow hit, he jumped up, spun toward me and locked eyes with me. I was pretty sure I was a gonner right about then.
P.S. He's the smaller of the two bulls I killed on that trip, but since most of you have already seen the big bull's photo, I thought I would share this one. Brings back some good memories.
The picture made me swallow hard so I can't imagine what it must have done for you looking him eye to eye.
Thanks for sharing.
I hope my Hills don't try to drag me out in front of any game larger or with a worse temperament than a grizzly...lol
Thanks again!
God bless,Mudd

Official Australia Population Figures, 2010:
People: 22.3 million
Wild Boar: 30 million

Lotta big hogs in that dvd eh Rob ? Good blokes those lads are ...

Wannabe1, you live near some great nutria hunting. I bet if you asked around on the grass farms you could get some permission to hunt them. When you do, call me and I'll help by showing you all I know... :D
Stan, when I lived in Louisiana, they hunted Nutra Rats and ate them. Just couldn't bring myself to eat one but, I sure killed a lot of 'em with a .22. They are a nuisance to the farmers.
What's the law on hunting them here in Oregon? Just a hunting license? What do you do with the fur afterwords?
I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that Oregon considered nutria to be a pest and encourged hunters/trappers to kill them.

Yup, just a hunting license and you can hunt them year-round. They are a pest and you can probably get permission from most anybody that you ask. We usually skin them, but don't eat them unless they come from somewhere other than a golf course. Crock pot them and they are really pretty good. I have used the fur to tie flies with before, it's really not bad, but not that great either. You can contact Oregon Trappers Association at www.oregonta.org (http://www.oregonta.org) for information on selling the furs.
I'll warn you now though, once you get started after them, you are going to get addicted :D
You can also get a furtakers license in Oregon and hunt raccoons from Nov. 15th to March 15th. It's a hoot as well. Might be a little late for this year, but definitely worth it for next season. You don't have to get a license that would allow you to trap, there is a hunting only version available.
Apex, you killer! Nice pics, would love to hear about those hunts. Thanks for sharing.
Earl
You guys are killing me! I'm out of a bow right now and in the market for a new one. Every time I think I have made up my mind on what I want, these Hill bows keep jumping back at me...
Stan, thanks a whole lot for the info. I've got a friend that has a 118 acre ranch outside of Crabtree, OR, and I called him to see what he knew about the nutria. Well, it turns out he has a little pond and they are a nuisance to him so, he is going to clear it with his wife, and allow me to come out and help take care of the problem. :D
Should I hunt them with broad heads or game heads? I've got some Ace Hex heads that are 175gr and they put a smacking on stumps. Will those work?
What's your setup? I shoot them with our Talons because they have a little better cutting blade than most game heads. That being said with my new 40# Hill style bow, I shoot broadheads. Nutria aren't really tough or thick skinned, and a 175 grain Hex out of a 50# + pound bow ought to be good medicine with good shot placement.
Setup is a 68", 51# @ 29" HH Tembo. AD Trad Lites cut 29.5 b.o.p. with 175 gr up front. I'm still waiting on my friend to get back with me but, looks like a found me some game to hunt! :D
