Whats your favorite wood for hunting arrows?
Douglas Fir from Surewood. Good stuff.
Seems like every week this is asked.....
still cedar; then sitka spruce.
I like my douglas fir tapered shafts and my cedar shafts
POC and some Surewoods too.

ditto :D
Has been Cedar ,but just got some Surewoods from Braveheart, they are sure close in spine and weight, very impressed.
Fir has been my favorite arrow wood for a long time, but I've been well served by POC, ramin and laminated birch as well.
My favorite is Douglas fir from Surewood shafts. Best I've used. Haven't got my hildebran's yet.
Keeping the Faith!
Magnus
POC for many years
Douglas fir from Surewood Shafts.
POC for me. Hap
Another for the Douglas Fir from Surewoods. I've only placed two orders, but I've yet to find one that needs straightening. Outstanding customer service, too.
surewood fir - the best i've found so far, and doubt there could be better ....
I just spent the day stumping and chasing rabbits ...
Conclusion ....
What Rob Said .
Ash and POC.
I would like to try surewood.
I've always used POC. But last year I tried some arrows made with Hildebrand sitka spruce and loved them. The Hildebrand sitkas are now my shaft of choice.
I've a few doz. Forgewoods left that I'm almost reluctant to part with (shoot)! Heavy & tough & best wood shaft ever IMO

Same here.
Hickory. Never need restraightening and indestructable.
Footed Surewood Douglas Fir shafts with Bubinga and Magnus Journeyman Broadheads.
Anything that is straight grained (will stay straight) and weighs 400+ grain (raw shaft).
Eric
When I did shoot wood...it was barrel tapered ash.
I got to go to the Surewood Shafts facility yesterday. It just reinforced in my mind their dedication to making the best shafts in the industry. Very impressive.
Tapered Ash from Raptor Archery. Good shafts, Great service
My favorite is river cane then cedar.
Laminated Birch--heavy-great penetration, stay straight, very hard so dents & dings are not a problem, break one, go ahead and try.
I love the weight that ash provides however I've found that normally you"ll only get about 75% of the dowels have good straight grain.
I shoot 3D only. I used to use POC, but I turned over to Hildebrand Sitka Spruce.Very strong, consistent and straight.
POC from Wapiti Archery, Doug Fir from Surewood Shafts.
Got Cedar in my blood.
Dogwood, because it gives the mass necessary for good penetration when using stone points.
I've shot good quality POC for a long time, and it's still my favorite. Doug fir is a close second. A little heavier and stronger. In the hardwoods, I like birch or for really heavy arrows, hickory. Good quality ramin is hard for me to find, but it also makes a very nice mid-weight, tough arrow.
I like the hex shafts. They have a great selection of sizes, mass weights, spine, and they offer all services that you may need. The arrows run very true and you never have to worry about grain runout. They are a quality product at a fair price.
Spruce, long grained and tough as nails
Funny I started this same thread Oct 26 2008. :archer:

i bought a dozen LB shafts and broke one my first day shooting them. a friend just gave me some hickory shafts to try. in the meantime, the arrows i use are cedar. don
Maple and Yellow Birch. I also really liked Lodgepole Pine which will be available again soon and i am going to make some Bamboo arrows here shotly.
