I did a search and there are a lot of threads suggesting brands but hardly any pics. I would like to see what mocs adorn your feet to get an idea for a stalking style moccasin. Also, I would like your thoughts on the particular style you wear. Good or bad.
Heres mine; made'em myself outa buckskin
(http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/dlbowers/mocs.jpg)
I have a pair of Minnetonka Tramper boots.
Very comfortable, soft sole, great for stalking.
I'll post a pic later or you can go to their web-site and click on boots.
Dave do you do stalking in those? Looks like you could feel everything under foot.
Do they make them in a 15 1/2 size?
I have a pair of Wrangler type of moccacine that laces, with soft soles that allow for great stalking.

Cottonwood, do you know if they are still making those? I did a search and either did it wrong or didn't word it right, as I couldn't find anything on them.
I will have to check.
Wannbe...yes i hunt with them during the early season Sept-Oct around these part. Your right you can feel everything; they really slow you down and let you pick the right step.
Lemme know if your interested I can give you the How-to on making them.
Dave PM sent.
I don't have any pics of them, but I made mine using the second pattern up from the bottom here http://www.nativetech.org/clothing/moccasin/moctext.html
It's an eastern center seam and is pretty easy to make. I start the season in these and go to my Bean Maine Hunting Shoes when it gets a bit colder. If you make a set, be sure to sew them so that when you turn them inside out, the rough side is on the outside.
PM me if you have any questions.
Kevin
Kevin, that's pretty cool. Thanks for the link!
heres my 3 pairs,, very comfortablebut no tread so they can get a bit slippy.

Now those look to be well used and comfortable. I like that real dark chocolate colored pair. Who makes those?
those are made by this guy in hudson mass.
http://www.arrowmoc.com/
the 3 above are the ring boots made by Quoddy moccasin Co http://www.quoddy.com/ who also makes some really cool and unique boots that fit right in with traditional archery .,,, 5-eyes by Carl Dyer, and the 3 eyes BY Arrow MOCC CO. I have alot of moccs but honestly the best feeling moccs I ever wore are the Arrows by a longshot.. when you first put on a pair of arrows they feel like they are already broken in because the leather is so soft and you can see the relaxed look of the leather in the pic and I have only wore them about 5-6 times... I'm getting a pair of the canoe moccs from them this weekend if I can make it there to see what they have in stock. the carl dyers are super tough too and they sure do feel it and so tough those 5-eyes above in the pic I bought in 2002 have been to 7 denton hills and still don't even feel close to being broken in but that may be a good thing I'm not sure yet (a friend has a pair of dyers that are 35yrs old and still perfectly fine)
the Quoddy mtn moccs are for you folks who need arch support! they have a hand cut leather sole inside with a built up arch support which works great if you like a little support there and the quality is hand made and the leather is that 1/4" thick stuff like dyer uses but has more give than the dyers..
as for dyers if you guys have not seen the carl dyer mocc Buckle boots your missing out,, I swear if you stepped on a land mine your foot would be fine with this leather they use--super tough and I crap you not you can pass these onto your grand kids! http://www.carldyers.com/
Here are elk skin winter mocs I made tons of years ago. I hate them for hunting.
Summer mocs. I hate these also for hunting. Give me a nice pair of hiking or hunting boots anyday.

Somebody say Mokerson's :bigsmyl:
Here's some of mine that I made and so can you with a pattern. These are the plains Indian style.

There getting pretty worn out but I put another layer of leather inside.

Has anyone here worn the great plains style knee high mocs? I have wanted to make a pair for years, but I hadn't thought of wearing them for stalking.
Does it really help? I am having a hard time being quiet in these NC woods...so much underbrush. I had just about resigned myself to just stopping every couple of steps, like the deer often do. What do you folks think about that?
Arrow and Dyer mocks are the best made mocks out there. These are Dyer's
(http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/ac248/TmPotter47/mock1.jpg)
Get enough leather and you can make a pair of pants to match. The shoes are a little darker from water proofing them many, many times.

I have had a pair of Arrow "lace boots" for a few years and love them. I have not done much hunting in them but wear them all the time spring and fall.
I just recently bought a pair of the "mukluks" they make and so far I am very happy with them! They have a crepe sole so they are not slippery to walk in.
I would highly recommend either of them. They have a bunch of pictures on their web site.
just whent to the quoddy web site, those grizzly boots with the sheep skin lining look interesting has anybody tried these out in cold wheather
Kasper
I have a pair I use for stalking.I have only had them a since this summer.I would say you can just about cut the noise in half by slipping on a pair of mocs.If the woods are a little damp you can realy move silently.I slipped up on a bedded doe and killed her at 6 yards in Nov.
Yes they can get slick on wet surfaces, but I just curl my toes down if I think it is going to be slick. So far I have been able to stay vertical with little trouble.I realy like them.If Im still hunting I will not be wearing anything else.
Bill
I have had a pair of Russell Moccasins PH THula THula Moccasiins for about two years. Absolutely love them. I have worn them elk hunting in Colorado, deer hunting at home, and bird hunting. I had a pair of Carl Dyers but found them to be to stiff. THe Ph's are expensive but I really like the canvas uppers.
Cottonwood; put some leggings on those things & it's on. Really dig mocs but wear them out much too fast through the leather bottom. Added leather insoles but water comes through. No good. Had some exact Arrow & Docs as above. Same thing.
Some great looking mocs fellas
Trapper,,, what kind of leather is that almond colored pair? guessing its deer or elk but those look very comfortable.
What about these Crepe soles I read about? Are they any good and are they quiet enough for stalking like leather?
Not really mocs, I know, but fantastic boots none the less & you won't fall on your ass every time you try to walk on wet grass.
guys take an scuff up the bottoms of your mocs and buy some shoe goo and put a small layer on bottom i have had mine for 15 years an havent wore out the soles i will come off just put more on..you wont slip an break your kester any more either..
sticbow, I did a search and that Shoe Goo is made right here in Eugene, Oregon. Only 45min down the road from me. What I read about it is pretty amazing so, putting it on the sole of your moc was pretty ingenious! Once I decide on a pair of mocs, I will give it a try.
(http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j411/scottlangston1/P1000036.jpg) here are mine made out of an elk i shot years ago
it has a really strong smell untill it drys.model glue x a hundred
Is it pretty flexible? I need to get me a pair of mocs before scouting season. Uuugh!
very u wont know its on there..your butt will
I gotta be honest, there ain't no way I can afford some of these manufactured mocs like Russel and Arrow! If a person was to buy one of those kit type moccasins where you put them together yourself, and treated the bottom with Shoe Goo, would they be durable enough?
pm wannabe1
Here in wv my feet would freeze.
Jax, these would be for mostly the early season. Late season it rains enough to keep most areas pretty quiet for stalking.
I would be interested in a kit as well. Would be great for early season deer and squirrel where I hunt.

:archer: You cant beat mocs for stalking , but for wet or cooler weather huntng the LL Bean rubber bottom hunting boots do a good job . The soles are soft enough for good feel .
Love mine for warm/dry weather hunting!
Arrow mocs.
Sodhopper moccasins offers a sole made of tire crumbs and Barge cement that you can apply yourself. G. Fred mentions the same type of sole in his book on stillhunting. I tried it on a cheap pair of Ataska mocs that I had and it definitely helps with traction and also makes the bottom more water resistant. I looked at lots of different mocs and I think the Arrow are the best for the money. They are very well made and would probably last years. If you applied the tire crumb sole they would be even better in my opinion.
I needed a custom fit because of foot problems, so I went with the Russell minimalist design with a thin Newporter sole and could not be happier. I wear them year around for work, too, though, so I'm not just buying an expensive hunting boot that I only wear a few times a year.
Do Arrow mocs fit true to size?
here are two pair of plains style i have just finished. these things are the Bees knees as they go with my war shirt now all i got to do is make some pants. (http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh305/jeffburg/001-3.jpg)
Jeff your pics didn't come out. Maybe just my phone?
Would be cool if someone did a buildalong.

Bengal,
In my experience, yes. My foot is exactly a 10 and both of mine fit perfect. He recommends going up a size if you are a 1/2 size.
magnus i can see them on my computer must be yer phone Bro
Jeff, those are some pretty cool looking mocs. Nice job! :clapper:
They're on here now. Thanks. I guess I was impatient lol. Those are awesome. I wish I had your talent.

stabow, You might want to get the picture of the smoke pole off the thread or there going to pull it.
No pictures of Wheel bows or guns should be posted on Tradgang :readit: ;)
Tracy
Really? The pic is for the mocs, not the weapon. It would be a shame to remove, but whatever keeps the integrity has to be the rule I guess.
Great mocs stabow!
QuoteNo non bowhunting related pics.
QuoteNo non Trad Bowhunting equipment (compounds, crossbows, mech heads, lazer sites, guns, etc...or even pics)

Thank you Scott, I'll let you know the minute they arrive.

Nice mocks too!!
Tracy
So I guess the wood identity thread will be short lived also.
I'd say it's probably going to get pulled, Awesome guns but it's still not about Trad bowhunting!! ;)

Real cool pics...Been wanting to make my own for a while.
:bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Here's a pair of winter moc's I made years ago. I made liners out of sheepskin and the outer moccasin was made from elk skin. I saturated the leather with waterproofing and put some goop on the soles so they wouldn't be slippery. The picture doesn't show them very well but they were the pucker toe design.
The shirt and pants were made from two Whitney wool blankets and the cap is otter.
This picture is in Jay Masseys book "Primitive Archery"
Ron, that is an awesome pic. Looks like something straight out of the history books!!
I've got a pair of elk skin mocs coming to give a try this years early season. I also am very much considering making a pair myself. Another TG'er sent me a great "how to" link.
