Title: cx 150's the same as .400 spine?
Post by: kahunter on January 11, 2011, 04:31:00 PM
How do the Carbon Express spines compare?

I need a new set of arrows for my 55# Black Swamp.  I am pulling about 49# at my draw length.  Epic 500 shafts are way too weak (with 200 grain point) and GT 55/75 shoot pretty good.

I am thinking about trying some CX shafts, but I'm not sure which size to go with.

Carbon Express Heritage 250's should work for you but I am surprised the 150's don't ? Sounds like you got a 26" draw ? 150's spine at .460-.470 I think so they are a tad stiffer than the Epic 500. What length are your arrows ?

I would think the 150's would work.

I actually haven't tried the 150's yet.  I was just wondering how they matched up with the easton's and GT spine-wise.

I don't think I would want to use the 250's because of how heavy they are, but I would hate to end up with 150's being too weak.

I want to have 225 grains total up front, and end with around 500gr total arrow weight.

CE Heritage 150s = .487 spine, 250s = .373
GT 55/75 = .400

CE Heritage 150s weigh 10 grains/inch. Mine @ 28 3/4", std. insert, 200gr. heads. 5" feathers weigh in at 530 grains. I pull 26.5" on an r/d longbow that is around 50#s at that draw length.

You didn't tell us how long your draw is ? Carbons get stiff mighty fast with length changes and if you have a 26-27" draw you can shoot a short 150 that will be plenty stiff for you. You should be fine with the 150's. Thanks BWD for that spine chart for us all !!!

If you stay with the 200 grain point you can shoot up to a 28" arrow in the 150. If you drop to a Heritage 90 and a 125 to a (145??) point you can shoot up to a 27" arrow. Every shooter is different but thats going to be real close.

Why not go EFOC with a 250 unless your draw length prevents it or something.....? Heavy can't hurt.

BWD, your setup is pretty close to mine.  I draw 26" so that should work for me.

I do want EFOC, but I don't want to shoot  "logs" either!
