Hi all Tradgang members!
Just wanted to present my self.
As the subject reveals, I'm from Sweden, from the north part, not to far from the arctic circle.
Been hunting all my life (I'm 43yo), smallgame, european moose, bear (not taken anyone yet.
Bowhunting isn't legal in Sweden, yet, but we hope it will be soon. It is allowed in Finland tho and that's not far from me
I'm shooting a longbow at 50# at 28", drawing about 29", started last year, doing quite well I think ( the neighbours have another story, but they are fast hitting the dirt!) Will get me a recurve this year to.
I hope to find answers on this forum regarding shooting and hunting.
So take care all
Alfie, a wannabee traditional bowhunter so far. :archer:

WOW!
Thank´s for a warm welcome!
Nice to see that some of you been to my country.
I'll try to answer some of the questions that you have.
I live about 100km south of the arctic circle, that's about 350km from Kiruna.
At the moment we have -18 degrees below zero and a meter of snow.
We have daylight from june to august 24h aday, sun never sets and in winter it never rises.
As for the wildlife it's pretty much alike northern part of us, moose, brown bears, dagers, redfox, red deer, grouse, black grouse, capercaille, wood grouse, hare and so on.
Pretty strikt laws about hunting tho and about keeping firearms.
Fishing isnt that hard restictied but you need a permit in most waters, and we have what we call the "all man right" witch means that I'm allowed to walk on someones land and in the woods, picking muchrooms and berries, hiking, making camp and so on, without asking the landowner.
I have relatives in the US, from Colorado to Florida, not that much contact with them tho :/
Hope that I've answered some of the questions any way...
Oh...and please feel free to correct my typing and spelling if need be ;)
I take that in swe.
Hej
kul att mer folk ifrån sverge dyker upp här
G'day!
Welcome Alfie
Welcome!
Wow! It really hit me when I read that you have 3-4 months of sunlight and the rest is dark.
I'm guessing that only 3-4 months are total darkness and that there would be (2) 3 month intervals, one on either side of total sun and total dark where it would be like twilight 24/7?
Do you reside in a town or city? How densely forested is the area where you live?
This is awesome!!
Thank you in advance!
God bless,Mudd
PS: Can I assume that owning and shooting bows is ok and legal?
Ahhh the land of Yellow haired beauties!
Welcome from Kentucky.
Alfie, welcome aboard! My maternal grandfather, an Olmstead, was from Sweden. Best regards, Todd

hi alfie my mothers family are all from karlsborg i was there in 1956 had a great time i was 11 yrs old we played viking on lake vaternhad surplus boat 2 sets of oars on each side no life jackets i here there are wild boar in southern sweden?
Alfie, I think you will make many friends here on Trad Gang. This is a great group of people to know.
>Arrow, yes, we have a good deal of wildboar in the south, sadly, the new hunting law that I hope will allow bowhunting, wont incoperate wildboar, most likely it will involve smallgame up to roedeer. But it's better than nothing, just hoping for a possitive answer that allow bowhunting
