Drew, how does this work out for the guys that have the Recreational Passport on their vehicle registration now?  I know normally you have to show the person at the gate your registration.

Tim...If you have the passport you are all set...just drive in and park...i just got off the phone with the State Park...there are no longer daily permits..... those that had to register cars with Secretary of State starting october 2010 should have paid the 10.00 for the statepark passport..."EVERYONE" can still purchase the vehicle pass at the park this year for 10.00...It is best to take care of this when you register your vehicle with secretary of state..  This 10.00 passport is good for the whole year and gets you into all state parks in michigan and is cheaper than the previous 24.00 they charged for the yearly sticker.

Thanks Tim..... It is my understanding the State started doing this so they could free up the booth attendants to do other duties..... I like the idea and think it is an easier process just to pay the 10.00 when registering your car with the Secretary of State and to be covered for all of the state parks.

Lee, I live in Holland.  I usually hang around pretty late in the day at the bunny stomp but if that is alright with you maybe we can set something up.  Otherwise I know a lot of other guys from the area that might be going.

Nice target MJ...Those are hard ones to hit. I use to shoot a 3d course that had 2 of those on a pond shot with a pulley. Now they have a carp. hard to hit in the spring with lots of water.

2010 was my first year into traditional archery.  I'm hooked...I mentioned this bunny hunt to my wonderful wife...instead of rolling her eyes, she says, I wanna go!!!

Mind you she's a seasoned bowhunter...but never shot a trad bow.  So I set one of my ILF bows up at a low draw weight for her and took her out stump shooting.  She's HOOKED now too!  She can't wait for the bunny stomp.  It's rare for her to write anything down on our wall calender, but this event is there!

Only problem is that now she's going to find out how much I spend on bows... :(

Its only money and you only live once too. Some would say buying bows is spending your money very wisely...me being one of those..lol

On the flip side nice meeting you Steve on saturday. I had a good time. I think Im going to bring the dogs with me when I come. I will also be bringing the video camera and filming, along with some interviews throughout the day.

Just bring a hunting related item to toss on the table....this is not mandatory...but will help make for a better raffle table....we will sell raffle tickets.... 5.00 each or 6 for $20.00....then we raffle off the items on table.. all proceeds are donated to St. Jude.

Guys I also see that the MI deer and turkey show is the same weekend.. But as long as we are helping out the kids I'll be there ( or try to be if something big doesn't come up)

And to the guys who where last year and seen my face plant in snow I will not be doing one this year   :biglaugh:  .. Unless I take off after a rabbit and trip in fall...

PTP, is that the same weekend as the bunny stomp?  I may have to get a hold of Austin and see what he's doing that weekend.

I know he's moved both of his recurves to acquire funds for a SJR bow, but I might have a spare I can setup for him.  I know he has a new dozen of flu flu's cause I just built them for him.

What is a good small game head? By asking this question I am really wondering how to not lose a bunch of arrows  lol. And I just want to bump this to the top. But really what would be a good one? Just regular field tips because they are cheaper or judo's cause they kinda make the arrow stand up after I miss? lol! Thanks guys, hope to see ya's there.

Mike, nothing is good if there is snow on the ground.  For bunnies I usually use the Hex Heads or Hammer Heads.  If you shoot an arrow and if there is snow on the ground no matter what your going to have to dig for that arrow.  The only down fall of a Judo point is they are eaisly deflected in the thick stuff.

Hardway.... blunts, judos, hex head etc.... if you want to use field points add a washer behind them....it will help keep them from skipping when others hunters or dogs are close...and also knock the snot out of a bunny..... bright feathers help in snow....even just spray painting arrows with bright color will help find arrows in the snow....i like bright wraps and bright feathers....Looking forward to meeting ya.......!!!

It has been a little tight around the homefront but this is a good enough for me cause that I feel I have to help out with as much as I can when I can. My kids? No they will not be attending. They have not ever shot a "real" bow. They love to shoot the lil brave golden eagle that they have but it is too big (draw length) for them. But they do love seein how far they can shoot one of dads arrows with it,lol. I am going to try to shape some up with branches/saplings this spring. But thank you very much for the offer.

TTT lets keep this one up there so all of the tradgangers that are in driving distance and can afford to drive there at least know about it.

Thanks so much you guys! You guys rock!

Couple weeks, we'll be chasing bunnies and doing what we can for the kids!

BRING IT!   :archer:

Just my Kodiak Hunter for me! Only cause that is the only one I have as of yet. My brother will have my dad's Fedora that he lets us use. Can't wait to see my new arrows. I have never shot a flu-flu before. Is there any difference in flight from a regular arrow? I imagine that there is but I wouldn't think it is that much different. Maybe a touch slower and dropping a lot quicker due to drag but I doubt that that is going to change my hit/miss ratio, lol.

Flu Flus are quite a bit slower but are easier to shoot accuratly at short range because of the big feathers.

I haven't had a chance to check did you find somebody to make you up some Flu Flus Mike?  Let me know if you still need me to look to see what I have.

Nope just fun to bring a few extra incase somebody wants to try out a certain bow.  Not everybody has the luxury of making it to Kalamazoo or Comptons to try out different bows.  At least that is why I bring a few extras.

The truth be known there are so many bunnies that you are constantly shooting that you can shoot the flex right out of a set of limbs so you always need a back up.  :bigsmyl:

That's my story and I am sticking to it  :D

I think I will stick with my 64" Longwalker longbow that Chuck made me. It should stick above the drifts if I fall down and mark a spot for the rescue squad to look! I'm looking forward to the bunny hunt. Bunch more snow coming next week though. Hope it isn't too deep for the small children and the old hunters!

Yes Tim, OS is makeing me some flu-flu's. What are the specs on your shrew's? I have been wanting to shoot one for a long time now. Well since I joined TradGang I guess. I am pretty sure my first post ever was something like " Are the Shrew bows worth the wait/money?" And I am pretty sure that would compare to blindfolding your self and hitting a hornets nest with a stick, lol. But I did get alot of info on them that way.  :)

Also, I don't have much in the way of extra hunting stuff to put in the raffle. So my question is, would something like hunting dvd's or books be welcome? I have some of both.

Yeah Jacobsladder, I know that donations are not required, but I like the idea of being able to help. Even with it being tight around here I know that it is even tighter for the parents of the children that we are trying to help. So I want to do as much as I can in this reguard. I am trying to learn how to build some bows for my kids right now, and I am thinking that depending on how that goes, I will be making as many as possible. My thoughts are that it will not only help get kids into our awesome sport but it might be another way to help the kids of st.jude's. Anyhow I will think of something to bring. You said that there will be hotdogs there right? Is anyone bringing buns, condiments and that kind of stuff? Thanks Mike.

Dangit Arwin.

I spent the morning putting together my bunny heads:

The ones with black washers weigh in at precisely 125grains.  Wingnut points weight in at 130grains.

I'm really jeaulous I can't make a Biz Trip, i had the sincere pleasure and privelge of spending soem time wtih jacobsladder, and meeting, Kevin (luv2bowhunt), Drew (drewsbow), Chad Graham (Chad Graham), Tim Fisheel (Tim Fishell), and Ron Bushong at Kalamazoo, as well as Denny Kleiman, and Craig (Fishone)...

You Michigan guys are one of a kind.  I was overwhelmed how personable these guys were at KZoo, and although have never met or even talked to these gents, I felt like they were old HS buddies.

I wish I would have stayed over at Kalamazoo, to catch up on the Blue Crocs, and Balcony Olympics.

You guys are quite a crew, and I hope our trails cross again.

Charlie...basically what the state is doing is selling their park permit (passport) at the secretary of state and adding the fee in with your vehicle registration tabs..the fee is 10.00...........this started october of 2010...... i just got off the phone and they are  not enforcing on folks that have not been able to register yet.. so vehicles that register feb -sept wont need to worry until they register in 2011...the others should have gotten the park passport at secretary of state..if not ..then dont worry because you can still buy the permit at the park for 10.00 and is good for any state park in 2011.This is a yearly permit... Starting 2012 the fee will be higher at the parks ..so make sure you get the park passport with your plate tabs at secretary of state to save $..hope this helps and is not too confusing!

I had a bunny running a couple beagles yesterday off of 127 bout 15minutes north of Lansing...said they saw 32 rabbits.  However hunting was hard as the night before it dropped into the teens and that nice soft packing snow from the day before froze and the rabbits were having a field day running on that frozen snow.

Sleepy Hollow State Park contains over 2,600 acres of woods, fields and trails. Lake Ovid nestled in the middle of it all was developed by damming the Little Maple River and covers 410-acres.

Weve had 50 plus hunters the last couple years...this is a huge area and room is of no concern..we dont even touch 90 percent of the area.............It's good to break into small groups of half dozen or so..that way if a bunny gets jumped there can be multiple shot attempts.......There is no shortage of brush, pines, etc..... it will be a great time...

There are some good brushy islands on the lake that hold bunnies...if the lake isnt froze we wont be able to get to them..but there is absolutely no shortage of area to hunt.....

There will be a fire burning...some folks will just chill by the fire and talk bows..others will be out pounding the brush...some will hang out at the targets...this is a chance to get out side spend some time with other Michigan trad bowhunters and enjoy what WE love to do...All of you make this event what it is and we enjoy putting it on every year!   :)

Hey just wanted to let everyone know that I will be giving away a few strings in the raffle drawing tomorrow but more importantly David Luscher (bear1336) from Covington, GA contacted me a few weeks back and wanted to donate a custom string also.

I will be giving one away under his name tomorrow.

Thanks again David!

Josh

P.S. Going to be a short night since I don't get out of work until around midnight...9:00 am start, that's early!

Have fun everyone

What a great day to hunt bunnies!  Saw two...took a shot at one...no bunnies harmed. It was good to see so many people show up this year and such a great showing from those in our league. Thanks to all!

Well this year was the first year that I have made it down and it was the first year that I talked my brother into goin down with me. All I can say is "WOW"!!!It was kinda overwhelming when we first pulled in so we just hunted by ourselves. We didn't see anything at all but we had a blast just getting out there and seeing some great hunting territory. At lunch we ran into someone that knew us from home that is friends with our dad. It was great meeting him. Overall it was a great 'stomp in my opinion, plus there was about a grand raised for st.jude's I think. I won a gift certificat from Stone Point Taxidermy in the raffle. Now the pressure is on to shoot a buck, lol. Thanks to everyone that helped put this together. It was great to put some faces with the names.

It was an absolutely georgeous morning to go "bunny stomping"!! Fist off...I want to thank all involved in organizing this event! And to all who brought food to feed us! It was a pleasure meeting other archers and shooting at that mean 'ol steel bunny! Most of all....it gave me special time with my son Connor! Who admittedly said he enjoyed it too! Looking forward to other excursions with the gang!

We'll get the pictures rolling soon.... What a GREAT bunch of Michiganders..... WE raised 1150.00 for St Jude... That was straight raffle sales...we didnt auction anything...so that is an amazingly generous total for straight up raffle tickets at 1$ per ticket. The rabbits were hit and miss... we rolled one and had a few shots...I'll just say the company was much better than the hunting   :)  Thanks to everyone for sharing this day together and helping St Jude... Special thanks to Drew, Steve Chappel, Bob Wyman, Dave Baker and all others that helped cook and assiste with setup and raffle tickets.... Thanks to all the vendors, fellows from other states, and the great Michigan folks that donated items for the table....Rick Butler was more than generous..thank you Rick!! Also thanks to all that brought beagles!.... The morning was a tad windy, but all in all it was a great day to be outdoors!!!!!!!!! Pics soon for you to enjoy!

It was great to hang out with the tradgang crowd and shoot some bows. Steve's venison chili was AWESOME, thanks for all your work in setting this up!

A personal thank you to whoever put in the woodie flu flus on the table, now I'm ready for next year!

As we are in as tough as economic times as many of us have ever seen. But it doesn't stop the hearts of these mighty warriors of the bow and arrow.  When it comes to our kids, they are always there. God bless you Steve and crew! God bless you Michigan bowhunters, I am proud to be amoung your ranks!

Next year I am going to stand in the middle of the crowd that is in the sun, lol!!! What was the tradgang names of the guys handling the raffle. I know the guy that was not shaking the tickets up was drew, lol!!! But who was modeling the raffle items and calling the numbers? I wish we would have had more time to put names with faces but like I said it was a little overwhelming. The only person that we really talked to was Mr.Morgan. It was nice to meet Arwin and his boy. He looked like he was ready to get some bunny's with that slingshot, lol. Also got to talk to one of you's about building the kid's bow. Which will come in handy for this spring when me and the kids start on there's. Again thanks to everyone involved in setting this up. I wish I would have not forgotten the camera. It would have been kinda neat trying to put a story together with some pics for traditional trails. Maybe next year. That is as good as any reason for "haveing" to go,lol!!!

Didn't catch who donated them but sure appreciate it.My buddy Kevin (KHALVERSON) donated the handmade knife and then lost out on the Bowhunting October Whitetails video because he was a little slow checking his numbers. Then again, he did earn an extra ticket by slipping thru the Bionic Bunny. We both had a great time. Name tags would be a great idea!

We gave that ol' Iron bunny a shot after it was closed also. And the only difference with it being closed while we shot it was that there was less witnesses there when we missed the sweet spot on the bunny, lol. I still think someone owes me for the advice before releasing that pink fletch arrow..we had a few that slipped arrows through the iron bunny but I see his comeback in 2012!

Special thanks to Mindy and Scott of Onestringer! Make sure you guys support them, they make top notch products and are great people!

That was an awsome shot! Most were banging metal, some missed the whole thing...... When she steps up like a pro and puts it right through the center.
