Post by: Covey on January 10, 2011, 06:39:00 PM
I know somebody posted on here about these, but I would like to hear more from the guy's or gal's who have used them. I've been looking at GPS's purdy hard and these look simple and easy to use. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks' Jason

I use one every night coon hunting to get me back to the truck. It hasn't failed me yet. It has 3 markers you can set, one with a house, one with a vehicle, and one with a star. I usually just mark my truck when I cut the dogs and use the star if I wanted to mark a path or something.

I will strongly advise against buying the Backtrack.  For $80-$85 you can get a Garmin eTrex (non-camo version) that will be much more useful and reliable.  If you follow the instructions on the eTrex Quick Start guide, you'll be using it in very short time.  After that, you can go on to more advanced uses (transferring data to and from computer-based maps, etc.) if you like.

I've got one and used it pretty extensively this past fall grouse and woodcock hunting.  The thing I like about it is the simplicity, (kind of a "set it and forget it") compared to my old garmin.
I use it to find my way back to my vehicle when bird hunting.  Some of the areas my Brittany and I get into are pretty dense and very easy to get turned around in.
I still carry a compass for back up just in case... batteries don't last forever.

Works great for me. I have used it a bunch. I like it because it is simple.

Found mine a while back on the auction site for $39.
