Title: Kansas Turkey Hunting (Fort Riley)
Post by: t. edwards on January 10, 2011, 06:02:00 PM
Just wondering how hard it is to hunt Ft. Riley for turkeys? Anyone have any luck at this place?

I would not drive from Indiana to Hunt Ft. Riley, The can shut you down at the gate at will with no warnings and not a thing you can do about it.

The hunting is probably good but so is most of Kansas especially the east side. Plenty of birds and better places to hunt.

Good luck!!

Looking for Rios and not really wanting to pay the price of an outfitter. We hunting at Wilson FWA last year and seen plenty of birds but alot of hunters also. Found a monster shed though so the trip wasnt to bad!!!! We are looking at the Federal land just south of Kansas City,no sure if they would have rios that far east.

Didn't know there was any Rio's on Ft Riley either and definitely wont be any near KC.

Down around Wichita is the only area I know that have them for sure according to a game Worden friend of mine and those are a mixed group at that.

There is a good WIHA north of Wamego, bout a section and a half, that won't have anyone on it right now.  I've got some nice turkeys off it over the years.  Usually a few around Tuttle and Milford as well, but you'll have duck hunters all over Milford.  Ft. Riley is good hunting, but that comes with all the attendant Army hassle, like Trapper said.  Good place, lots of headache.  Then again, that might be my native aversion to doing anything for entertainment on post.  Always feel like I'm looking over my shoulder.

I've spent a lot of hours (when I should have been in class) chasing turkeys and deer around Pittsburg. Thousands of acres in that area for public access. Maybe something you'd might like to look into.
