It's been nearly twenty years, but just after Christmas I decided to dig out my dad's old bow and see what would happen. A new string and Bear hair later, it was time to find time to shoot. I work two full-time jobs, so time is precious, especially with a three year-old. Took the family to our big county park on Jan. 2 to get my archery permit (Living in a non-projectile weapon town is no good.), but didn't have any time to shoot before I had to get to bed.
Well, today my wife took my daughter to see a movie, and my window of opportunity opened right up. A little chilly today, but not too bad. I figured I'd only send a few arrows down range, just to get the feel for what was basically a new bow, if not an entirely new hobby. Well, everything felt good, and I was on the target from twenty yards with every shot. Unfortunately, in my unnecessary haste, I hadn't really cleaned the shelf, and the Bear hair started to peel away. Guess that's one more issues with vanes, but that's what I've got right now, so that's what I'm shooting. Finally, after about twelve shots with adjustments to the rest after every one, the rug chased an arrow down range. Time to call it a day, I suppose.
Stopped by a local sporting goods store where all the trad gear they have is on clearance and picked up a weather rest. Got home and put it on, along with a new nock ring then looked at the clock. It's going to be tough going to bed and thinking about how good it felt to shoot again, and how much fun I had shooting a whopping seventeen arrows. Oh well, there is always tomorrow. If I have the time.
Sorry about the long post, but since it it my first, I hope I can be forgiven. I do want to thank everyone for making this forum such a great source of information. From finding out that, yes, the bow is still safe to shoot, to learning that a Sharpie is not the best method for marking your nock point :o , this place had been one of the most helpful forums I have ever lurked on.
Welcome!

Welcome back Tinman. With all you've got in the fire, I see your shooting time is at a premium. Use all the great info and members experience here to make the most of it.
You are on the right track...
Now all ya need to do is "get out of Dodge" to a place that will let ya shoot in the back yard... (Just thought, hope ya don't live in Dodge City... LOL)
What Huntschool said. What a stupid Law.Welcome none the less
Welcome!!
The discharge of a baseball bat is far more harmful to folks than archery has ever been. Archery is safer than every sport taught in school except table tennis. I recommend you not accept it and work on changing it. It has been done.
Welcome back to traditional. Of course, you know we NEED to know what bow you are shooting!
Welcome Pete. What part of Kansas are You from?
All we have to do is hook the mayor and city council on trad gear and the law will be repealed!Seriously as a group tradgang could get some attention.Of coarse not without admins. blessings.Bet that law passed after Dorothy said ," there's no place like home"!
Welcome!!
I hate to tell you this but from what I read in your post, you're sunk!...lol
Isn't it wonderful to have that kind of excitement running through your very being.
I takes a person back to the days of yesteryear when summer vacations felt like a great "day" then school started back up...lol
Enjoy the journey along with the rest of us.
God bless,Mudd
Just do it. It will make a difference in your life!
The adventure is a blast.
Welcome and enjoy
Welcome you will be glad you got onboard!!
Enjoy it. When I go out to shoot "a few", it usually winds up being a hundred..or until dark.
Many of us know about the "windows of opportunity" thing. Working two jobs is tough and ya gotta do what ya gotta do to support your family.
Stick with it and, before you know it, your 3 year old will be your shooting partner!
Welcome!
Changing the law would be a challenge I ould love to take up, but with my wife's near-overwhelming desire to raise chickens (and with that law having been recently challenged and upheld), getting out of Dodge, or perhaps out to Dodge, might be the best idea. Gonna have to wait for the economy to come back a bit on that, though. I'm in Overland Park for now, the place where they least want to admit they're in Kansas.
I'm shooting a Pearson Cougar 7050, 45#@28. Fine enough bow, made all the finer by it's sentimental value. Never gonna part with this one.
