Does anyone have any hands on experience with the Gold Tip ultralight shafts? I'm interested in experimenting with an ultra light shaft and heavy weight forward. I was thinking maybe the Velocity 400 spine (7.4 gr. per inch) and 300 to 325 gr. up front. Bows will be 55-58# @26". Hard to experiment with too many different shafts with the $$ involved. Weight forward is no problem since I have so many 100 gr. brass inserts and plenty of 150-250 gr. practice points to get started. I mentioned 400 spine because it seems like the heavy weight forward would weaken a 500 spine too much. Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a good idea to me ,I need new arrows soon soo I need to know also.Thinking about droping arrow weight and increasing front of center, might be a win win deal to me...need to hear something from tradgangers that have the new GT ultralight shafts got pleanty of 5/16 inserts and points...Like how strong are they...are they stright..do the 5/16 inserts work with them...
dick I'm shooting a axis 400 50lb at 26" centaur longbow, with 100 grain insert and a 300 grain tip, A and A fletch with 1/2 a wrap, coming out at 655 grains and 29-30% FOC. Depending on the efficiency of your particular bow you might actually be a little weak with a 400 spine. When I tuned my rig I actually showed a little weak with the above set up and had to tweak side plate and brace height to dial it in.
Thanks Roger. So you're shooting a total of 400 gr. with the insert and tip? Wow! I'd be shooting Morrison recurves and shafts probably around 28", I think. I'll bet you'd blow through plywood with that combo!
Not worried about plywood nearly as much as the Moose, Caribou, Black and brown bear, bison, muskox and African plains game. I strongly believe in building one arrow/bow combination for anything I might hunt and then shoot the heck out of it. By the way my point on distance with that set up is about 22 yards. Right where I want them.
shooting a 31" gold tip ultralight 300 with 250 (200 head 50 insert) up front, 53@29.5, 540 gr. just over 20% foc.
With your shorter draw length the 400 shortened to tune should work.
