Post by: Lupe on January 08, 2011, 10:33:00 AM
I have shot mainly two bows and both have this Asbel grip. One a older Bighorn recurve and the other my new voodoo stik. Can anyone give me more infomatin on this grip?

Randy showed a good pic comparison.  For what it's worth, I have two Black Widows, one with the regular grip and the other with the Asbell grip.  Because of my short fat fingers, I like the feel of the regular grip better, but I shoot the bow with the Asbell grip better.  More consistent.  So I shoot the one with the Asbell grip and the other one sits on the rack.

I wish I could change the bow with the regular grip over to an Asbell grip!

In the picture above the regular grip looks to be offset to the left, and the Asbell grip looks to be centered. I'm referring to where one's webbing between the thumb and index finger would be. It could be an optical illusion from the flash of the camera.

NJLOCO..  the Asbell grip is not "straight on" in the photo where the std grip is...

Look at it again..  check out how much side view of the shelf ya have on the Asbell

Wife and I went to Nixa last week and of course, other than working up the bow I wanted to order, I shot a bunch of bows.

I was really interested in shooting curves with the Asbell grip.  I like a big grip and one that sets my hand.  This grip does that.  It does seem to rotate my wrist up which is OK with me as thats the way I shot target comp with both Recurves (years ago) and those other bows for a while.

I would say, if you are thinking about this grip, you do a "test drive" with Widow.

For me the standard grip worked well. I shoot with more of an upright bow and while the asbell grip was more comfortable it promoted bad form. This is only my opinion based on the way I shoot a bow.

You can actually build up the palm swell on your bow to test out and see if you like the Asbell grip. I did it on a PSA I owned... didn't shoot it enough to get a good feel for it.

There's more material in the heal of A. grip and a smaller throat.

The BW grip has a bit of a thumb ridge on it.

I find the standard grip works for me the best.
