Title: My new Big Jim Thunderchild
Post by: Mike Burch on January 07, 2011, 05:42:00 PM
Spent a week in the Georgia swamps and took a trip to Big Jim's place. The Big man treats you like an old friend. Customer Service is top notch and builds one of the best looking and shooting bows I seen and shot.

I picked up an amazing bow from him. This 56" baby is smooth and as accurate as bows 8-10" longer. I couldn't believe how well it shot for me at 30". It's his T/D Thunderchild. The riser is Gaboon ebony and Koa wood. Limbs are bamboo core with Koa veneers back in belly, with Springbok horn limb tips. Specs are 56", 46# @ 28" and about 51# at my draw.

Below are some pics of the bow and of Big Jim whipping me up an extra string.

Mike

The great lines of the TC alone, lends itself
to be extremely attractive with nearly any color or combination. Adding in the eye for matching beautiful combinations and the highly skilled craftsmanship ends up captivating me each time I view a new TC.

Congrats! She sure is a beauty.

While you were there did you get a peek at Jim's "Magic" woodshed? Rumors abound of sightings of Wood Elves and such hangin' around. Closest we have to an actual confirmation is Jim slipping a few times and calling his limb cores "Magic", and of course how they shoot.   :dunno:

You're right, it's hard to get the true look of the Koa on camera. Pictures doesn't do it justice.

These TC threads are doing me no good.

I actually find the anticipation of a new bow quite fulfilling and an added part of fun. This is not the case this time. It reminds me of a common scenario when I was young. The coon dogs would be in the kennel located in the far back of our yard and out of site. Anytime in the evening, as soon as the tail gate was lowered, you and everybodyelse were quickly reminded they were back there.

There it goes again. Someone has lowered the tail gate on Big Jim's truck. Ruff! Ruff!!

Thanks for posting Pics Mike. Glad you are enjoying the bow.
Terry, I started building the "ManCave" about four years ago and Have hit several stumbling blocks since. We take do it yourself to a whole new meaning around here and buisness has gotten in the way.
There are two cedar trees holding up two truss beams in the room. It measures 40' square with 23' ceiling. My wife and I made all the pre cast stone in the pics and the dark wall is reclaimed lumber from a building in North Georgia.

Trust me, that room will be just as much my wife's as mine. She has nearly as many or maybe as many trophy mounts as I do. It is currently disguised as an archery shop(or storage) and with trickles of construction going on, it stays a considerable mess. I have found that the reclaimed wall makes for a good picture back drop too.
Enjoy Mike, Bigjim

how quiet is it,,,does it have that weird metallicy limb sound that some of the hybrids have when they are shot?

don't get me wrong cause I won't say its a noise really just a unique sound I guess.
