Like many folks, I'm giving up on my modern equipment and returning to traditional archery. I believe it has been since 1975 when I last shot a bare recurve.
Last month I stumbled into a small local sporting goods shop and on a whim went to pester the archery folks... I got to thinking about how long it has been since I enjoyed archery rather than just carried a bow for one shot per season. After a little discussion and fondling I found a Hoyt Dorado #45 I liked and made it out without breaking the bank... But found I was hooked and went back a week later and bought a second #55 setup.
Instinctive shooting is coming back to me pretty quick and I find that I have a LOT more patience than I did back when I was a teenager and I'm also more critical of my shooting. I'm working through a couple of issues but I'm pleased with my progress to date.
I have a 10 yard range in my basement and shoot nearly every day, about 50 arrows. Once it warms up a little bit and the yard dries out I'll head outside and shoot at random distances out to maybe 30 yards.
I'm retired (sort of not old) and have a ton of time on my hand and I'm also considering trying my hand at making a bow or two... Maybe even visit a bowyer and take a/or class(es).
Anyway, I am hooked on watching the arrows fly once again.
If there is anyone of like ilk with a desire to share some shooting and maybe some knowledge/experience I'm game.
Welcome back to the fire.
Welcome back to the traditional way and to the Gang.
Keeping the Faith!

Welcome to the tradgang family!!
I'm glad your here!
Thank you for your service to our country.
Veterans hold a special place in my heart, especially corpsman/medics.
Our lives were in their hands so many times. I know the same still holds true today for our troops.
God bless you!
In fact, God bless us all!
Mudd
PS: I'm sorry if I did a little side track but I just thought I'd rather tell you how I felt than let it slide.
Welcome back! There is nothing in the world liking taking wild game with a bare bow! Other than my family traditional archery is what I live for!
Welcome back Dave. Hope to see you at the Baltimore shoot in the spring!
Welcome back and congrats on the shift.

Dave welcome your in good company here, good to have you. :campfire:
I'm also a new member to this site...WELCOME!
I too have given up the wheel bow for a 1972 Bear Kodiak Magnum and have not shot a recurve in 35 years. You will enjoy this site and learn more than you expect. These folks are friendly, knowledgable and very willing to answer any questions you may have. As a retired veteran I would like to THANK YOU for your service to our country!
You will not regret your return to Trad Archery Welcome to TradGang
Fighting Celt, and Dave, welcome. Glad you are here, enjoy the life, and the folks who partake in it including yourselves.
Have a pleasant and rewarding journey.
Welcome back to "ARCHERY" sounds like you are hooked. You will better enjoy being retired.I retired in 2005 and opened LEGENDS BOWS full time.If you lived out this way, i would welcome you into my shop to learn how bow building is done.Im sure you can find someone in your area that would help you. Also there are alot of information here on the "Bowyers Bench".Most of all, just keep things simple and have fun.
Good to have ya back....
Enjoy
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Mudd, FightingCelt - Thanks. Specifically directed appreciation is sort of embarrassing for me, I don't view my Navy service as anything other than a normal "passing through life" option. In my view I suffered little and gained much during that passing and owe the citizens of this fine country my gratitude for allowing me to do so.
As for the Medic/Corpsman thing, it was different than most military jobs I guess. The tasks for me were simple, keep them safe and alive. Most of my immediate/critical problems were directed toward one individual, I didn't have to worry about maintaining a perimeter, driving a ship or carrying a fight... I viewed it as assess then simply focus on one problem at a time and fix it while knowing those around me would do their job.
Stinger - I'll search for this Baltimore shoot and figure to attend in some fashion. Spring is good hog hunting time in Texas and I might head down there for a while.
Legends1 - I travel around the country a good bit (pickup truck) and might just one day be in your neck of the woods. I could make a swing over to Pickle Meadows and bother the Marines during their mountain training. Maybe get a fine meal of rabbit at the chow hall.
Thanks again to all for the hearty welcome.
Welcome aboard Dave and Thomas.
Earl
welcome back,I went back to traditional about 4 years ago.and I have not looked back.
Welcome!
And you have found a great site full of good knowledgeable people.
If it was not for TradGang I am sure I would not have returned to archery. I loved shooting when I was young. As I got older I got into wheel bows and lost interest in archery. Now thanks to TradGang I am back in to a very fun and rewarding sport full of great guys.
Welcome back. It has been a great journey for me. This site has taught me much. Check out the shooter forum also for help on any form issues. There are so many knowledgeble people on this site willing to share. ENJOY!
