Just put in for the KY elk lotto again this year. I haven't been drawn before, but I am feeling like this is my year! How about you?
I like the new choice format this year and since I would be just as happy shooting a cow as I would a bull, my two choices were the archery only tags.
I have always wanted to do an elk hunt. I did not know there were elk in KY. But seems you know for sure!

We got all 3 species of Elk here in California the Tule, Yellowstone, Roosevelt and I should only need a little Luck this year to draw I have max points. Blake
The last original KY elk disappeared during the Civil War. The restoration of elk in KY began with the release of 7 Kansas elk in December, 1997. Over the next four years another 1,542 wild elk from UT, AZ, ND, OR, and NM were rleased in a 3,000,000 acre of eastern Ky.
We started hunting these elk with 6 tags in 2001. These days 800-1,000 permits are issued by lottery each fall. The herd is estimated to contain 10,000-12,000 animals now.
Last year 32,000 people applied. Nonresidents may apply for the same prices as residents - $10. A computer will draw the permits with "no more than 10% being allocated to nonresidents". If a person is drawn then they buy the elk license. Hunter success is generally around 76%.

Macatawa, yes my hunting partner is the best! She love spending time with me in the blind or tree stand. She was right beside me when I took one turkey and one whitetail buck this year and with knife in hand helped me process two more does this fall as well.
If I do happen to draw and things work out, I would love to have her chasing elk with me!
