Title: HH bows and Mohawk bows
Post by: Joe Subler on January 05, 2011, 04:57:00 PM
I have owned HH bows in the past and really enjoyed them but have been thinking of ordering a Mohawk bow but have not even seen one.  I would appreciate any thoughts from those who have shot both and how they compare(ie smoothness, cast, workmanship etc).  I have heard very good things about Mohawk so just wanted a comparison from those who know.

Cheers,
Joe

Joe - I have the classic, the limbs are thick like a hill and they shoot great. I had Vince put a dished grip on mine. If you do search for Mohawk bows on powwow , you will find a bunch of pics. I really like mine.                                                                   Darren

Guys, I did another search and found this same subject posted that I must have missed from last year.  I think I obtained all the info I need from that post unless someone has something else to add.  Thanks so much,
Joe

there is no comparison 'tween the two bows as they are different in many ways that may not be visually available.

hill style longbows have narrow and deep limbs, with either some reflex, or straight, or follow, and brace to a "D" shape.  as a result of their design, they are very stable, require longer bow lengths for a given draw length, and yes, you need to know how to shoot them to reduce the hand shock to a thump.

mohawk longbows have wider, thinner, trapped limbs with both mild limb reflex and riser deflex.  as a result of r/d, they can be more efficient and pleasing in shorter lengths for a given draw length. they also brace to a "D" limb shape.

having owned and shot a gaggle of both bows ...

hills are aesthetically the most pleasing longbows, whether unbraced or braced.  nothing sez 'trad archery/bowhunting' than a howard hill longbow and a quiver fulla woodies.  i love 'em, i want 'em, i'll always have 'em.

however, 'hawks are much smoother on the draw and release with zero hand shock, while maintaining a good degree of 'stability' on the release.  these bows simply exhibit more performance - faster arrow speeds, no shock or thump on release and they do like heavy arrows.

as always, ymmv - as it should!

Rob, thanks for your insight!  Have you noticed the 'hawks liking a heavy arrow moreso than the Hills?

Joe the answer to your question is still yeppers! If you already have a Hill then a "hawk' would be a nice addition.

Good luck and God bless,Mudd

PS: I was just awed by a "new-to-me" Big Jim Buffalo bow that I shot for the 1st time a few minutes ago.

Hello,

take care: these 'Hawk are very addictive.

Just had mine a few months ago and this stuff is awesome. I am shooting it at 9gpp and i am very please with the arrow trajectory and speed ... thinking to use it for my 3di season this year.

The think i really like in this bow is the stability. very important in championship. perhaps even more than just performance.

You cant be wrong with a Mohawk.
