ive been shooting really well in basement after shooting blank bale for awhile last week went to indoor 3d course, and well everything went out the window did end up ending on a great 25 yard shot on a bobcat target, just missed the 12 ring. The only thing different with that last target was i had two target shooters standing behind me watching they also made a comment right before i shot about my recurve. I guess i need alittle preasure to make me focus. Back to the blank bail
I have found that shooting involves a lot of concentration. I have the physical aspect down. But fully concentrating can be tough. And sometimes even tougher with pressure.
Everybody shoots good in their yard. Shooting 3D will make you a more rounded archer, whether you shoot for the competition or just for fun. The key is to have FUN

people talking while waiting to shoot was hard for me to get used to on the 3d range but in the end ive learned to block it out and have improved my concentration good luck to you and have fun with it
3D shoots are very fun! People talking while you shoot is part of the deal... best to not let it get to you.
The transition from home target to varied targets can throw you off. Do you vary your distances and angles as you shoot. Not just per round, but arrow to arrow? That could help if not, as the 3-d range probably had that change up. Keep at and as James said, enjoy and HAVE FUN!
First time I shot Indoor 3d was inside the Dorton Arena at the Dixie Deer Classic in Raleigh, NC last spring. Vendors, buyers, and spectators all around. Heck of a venue to be making my "debut"!
Fortunately, my son-in-law, Preston (Arrowhead 80) and John Dill of Anneewakee Archery were also competing that day. Both are accomplished shooters and told me just to block everything out, focus, & have some fun with it!
Everyone was behind me, and they were, "behind" me. Only the 3d targets out there in front of me. Did my best to follow their advice, shot my round, and managed to place third (out of eight) in the Longbow Class.(I was thrilled, even received a plaque!)
Whenever my shooting is "suffering" (and it often does!) I try to remember that advice & that experience as I try to perfect my shooting skills.

I'm far from the best 3D archer out there. And I know all to well how the talking of others can be a distraction. Many times I'll make my own noise, in my mind that is, of a fly buzzin' round then landing in the ten ring.... Gonna put my arrow right between his wings! :D Works for me.

Last year I was at the Sawmill shoot in PA and was shooting a corse my myself so I was catching up to alot of groups and they were letting me shoot threw. I came up on this one group and they let me shoot threw as I steped up to shoot they started to say things like dont let us all watching bother you and stuff like that. I stated that they would not bother me at all I concentrated on a spot in the middle of the 10 ring and pinwheeled it they said I guess we wont. I have done alot of competitive shooting with all kinds of weapons and you get use to it I don't think about it at all I just do what I have to do and shoot. As you do it more often it will get easier good luck and have fun. Widow
i have found the more pressure im undr the better i shoot so any ideas how i can put this 'pressure" on myself for every shot? I made my best shot of the round with people watching and commenting whn it was just me seems liek lack of consinteation crept in I need preassure! lol
I shoot way better 3D shooting than target. I dont take far shots and like to keep them in my kill range. I think the reason is that I usually only shoot one arrow when practicing. When shooting 3D you get a kill on the first arrow and go to the next target. My concentration slips if I shoot at the same distance more than once or twice. When you get older you are on a slippery slope on your best days.

I like to shoot 3-D for practice. I go and have a good time most of the time. The majority of shoots around here are set up for wheels. By wheels I mean a avg shot of around 35-40 yds and several from 45-70 yds. In my group we will move up sometimes and not worry about score. It is good practice overall.
i wish we had some 3d around here.
i saw a post a while back where the guy wa using tennis balls for practice. i think once my kid gets older , im going to have him go out and hide some tennis balls , and make us a little 3d rodent course.
as for putting pressure on yourself , when i used to shoot rifles a lot , i would tell myself that everyone was scoping my target. it worked aevery time.

Where in Wisconsin do you live? Rib Mountain Bowmen (Wausau)is holding a traditional-only outdoor 3D shoot, as well as an indoor 3D shoot Jan. 15. If you want pressure, then the prospect of losing arrows in the snow if you miss a target adds spice to every shot. Hope you can make it. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
I like 3d shoots. To prepare I shoot at a vollyball with rubber blunts so I am shooting down instead of at a waist high target. It also changes the range of the shot each time you hit it so you do not get set shooting only at one certain distance. This has helped me alot. Also if you have a chance shoot up and down hill.
