Title: Just a Reminder about the Bow Classifieds ...
Post by: Rob DiStefano on January 04, 2011, 09:50:00 PM
it is not allowed to hijack an existing topic anywhere in trad gang land to attempt to sell, buy or trade a bow.

this is particularly true of members who have not yet reached the magic 100 post count to allow bow ad posting.  doing so is wrong and very uncool.

if you do this, admin, the mods, and fellow members will not be happy campers.  please keep us happy.

thanx and we do appreciate your understanding.

If anyone else tries that trick.....just ban em.  Life is too short to deal with short cutters.

It's not that hard to get 100 post's, you could learn more about trad archery in 100 post than what you learned in 10yrs of being ignorant. Its good to know you guys police all areas of the site.Great job and keep it up.Thank you

Yeah...and we've had a bunch of folks just post one word replies on a tear thinking they would be granted permission....and even had others tell folks to do so.

Some folks just don't get it....and this site is about folks that do get it.

I like the oversight and the 100 minimum post. It gives me a better idea of who I might possible be dealing with. Keep up the good work!! This is a great site with some very good people.

Just a word to the wise, some of us that have been around for a while will often times pull up a profile and do a little back ground reading just to get a feel for the person we might be dealing with.

If the majority of your posts are one or two words and a couple of smiley faces, you can bet we're gonna dig a little deeper.

I want to trust everyone and for the most part I do give everyone the benefit of the doubt but I'm going to try to get all the information I need to keep myself safe.

Everything is made much easier and feels a heck of a lot safer with Terry, the administrators and moderators keeping shepherd over the flock.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

God bless,Mudd

Mudd is certainly correct about doing research.

I never trade with someone on the site until I know their handle and have done a search.  If I find any dispararging remarks about short, bald, or folks over 50 I'm reluctant to do business with em -- I don't like folks being mean to friends who don't resemble me in the least.

While I registered on Trad Gang several years ago, when I was starting to dabble with the idea of going traditional again, I didn't post much.  This spring I got to reading on here again.  Then I thought I might like to post a bow on classified and the 100-post rule was invoked.  So, I remember, I was out of town. I just started going to every thread that looked the least bit interesting and some where I could provide insight. I put out a couple dozen posts pretty quick and then obtained permission to post a classified.

Funny thing happened.  While making all the posts I sort of got hooked visiting with fellow bowhunters. In fact, I didn't post a classified for more than 7-8 months later.

I do know it is easy to get caught up in a thread and forget a rule.  For example, on a recent thread (still current) about Bear TD limbs I might have crossed into classified turf without really meaning to do so.  A big guy in a plaid shirt came to my front door. He was wearing a beat up ole Fedora. He made me shoot his right-handed longbow. It vibrated the living tar out of my bow arm elbow (but I didn't hear it). Taught me a lesson!

You mean we can post a classified add, if we have so many posts?  Dang, what will they think of next?  Maybe sliced bread!
Mods, please keep up the good work.  If it weren't for ya'll, this would just be another one of those sites!
Thanks,
Johnny/JAG

I am short bald and i will be 60 soon enough.  I am not sure if i can be trusted, so I don't like to sell my stuff.  I do enjoy giving it away, then no one can complain that I gave them a raw deal.  I have some bows to give to those that can use them, but I think it would best if I did it person to person.  I went on a recurve buying binge and I don't think they work for me or my wife, since she is in love with her NAT and me my Hills, Shulzes, Robertsons and my new baby a sleek fast and accurate Pete George yew. Perhaps on an impersonal media like the web, it is wise to have controlled restraints to keep the dealing fair and square. I wish for days when word, honor and honesty were universal and the norm.  Seems like any lie that one can get away with is a good business maneuver, and in many businesses it is accepted and glorified.  The idea that such a thing can invade traditional archery is very depressing.  I saw four gold eagles several bald eagles and over a hundred deer today, two pheasants and believe or not a moose in Iowa, scary thing that moose. None of them knew anything about the internet, but they knew that I was wolf and not sheep, I don't mind the occasional pack, but I never herd up in a flock or follow goats. I would still much rather trust people until proven otherwise, society is getting over loaded with the guilty until proven innocent mentality.  It is getting more mean spirited and exclusive every day.  If it totally invades traditional archery, it will make us a loose pack of loaners that do not ever trust each other.  Internet forums are what they are and I guess you need to do whatever to keep things right..

You got me scared now, i don't dare to make a deal.  Maybe when that top knot is a little thinner.  Besides it is a nice day and have to go chase does with my accountant, classic guitar playing son.

When I rejoined the gang I made a few mistakes that were quickly and politely pointed out by admin.  It's nice to know you don't have to put up with the kinda poop.. you see on other sites.

IMO trad Gang did not only survive many years of the "forum hoppers" but has evolved and matured into THE most respected home of traditional archery.

This did not happen by accident.  Like thousands of archers from the noobs to ancient ones, I appreciate what we have here.

The rules are there for our collective benefit.....I also thank the leadership and the "police".
