Title: Arrow selection help for carbon pronghorn
Post by: Coiloil37 on January 01, 2011, 11:54:00 PM
Hi to everybody, I'm new to the site and pretty new to trad archery. I've been shooting those other bows for about fifteen years now. Anyway I've got a one piece carbon pronghorn that's 75# @ 28" I'm drawing 30" and I want to shoot about 200 grains up front (Simmons). I'm hoping some of you experienced guys could recommend which spine arrows I should buy, both carbon and wood. I want to try some gold tip traditionals and some ash shafts. The GT's for hunting and the woodies for stumping and small game (I realize it's a lot of weight for rabbits) I also realize I could buy some test packs but being in Canada I would have to order it from the States, pay shipping then order again when I know what I need. So I'm hoping I don't have to go that route. So in a nutshell keeping in mind I'll start with full length shafts and I'm flexible with point weight, which spine range (both wood and carbon) would you recommend. Thanks.

I don't know for certain, but would think that you will need something in excess of 100# spine.

The gold tip 75/95 would be the only gold tips that are close.  You can build your sideplate out if they are weak.  Beman makes a 300 spine and that is what I would go with.  You can also order test kits from 3-rivers.  Might want to check that out.

Get something in the .300 deflection like bemans and leave them full length and shoot the 200 up front, that will be darn close. Shawn

As a SWAG, somewhere around 110-120.  It would take some experimenting and tuning to really know.
