Now that the hunting season is over (at least it is for deer where I live at) :( , how many Tradgangers tried a new, or different piece of equipment this year? How did it work out for you? Were you satisfied with it? Did it meet your expectations? Would you recommend it to other Tradgangers? For example, did you try out a new broadhead this year? Were you satisfied with the results or are you going back to your "old brand"? How about that new bow that you couldn't wait to get your hands on? Maybe you tried ground hunting more this year and you bought yourself a guillie style suit?
I'll start this off. This year I hunted with a new Predator Hunter takedown recurve and I couldn't be happier. It fits me like a glove and I have never shot better in my life. Its quick and quiet and very forgiving of bad form. My Super Kodiak is now my backup bow!

Wensel Woodsman Elite,Asbel wool pulloverBoth are winners

I'm sure many others have discovered this but this year I went from using a mini mag lite to a Petzl(sp?) head lamp. Woked great, freeing up my hands when climbing into my stand and getting strapped in.
-
I hunted with a longbow for the first time this year. Never had the need to draw it. I usually take a practice shot before getting out of a treestand, and all of those shots were good, so probably would have done good if needed.
-
I used the original Wensel Woodsman broadheads. Killed two deer and they performed great. Very easy to get shaving sharp with just a file.
-
My first try at using carbon arrow shafts. I am impressed with them.
-
yep... tried a lighter arra for speed, which improved my accuracy. Also a new bow.
Hunted with 56# Silvertip flinging 2213 camo hunters with a 125gr magnus screw- in four blade.
470gr total arra weight.
The eight point I killed hated them! :bigsmyl:

I ordered a dvd this summer "How to field dress a deer in about one minute" This year I used a tiny little knife to field dress three deer and it went well. about 4 or 5 minutes each.
-
Tried a centaur longbow (awesome)and pearson deadhead broadheads.
-
Two Tracks Wool Vest and Rancho Ghillie longcoat. Used my Buckfinder Swivel seat more for ground hunting. All 3 worked great.
-
I switched bows from many years of shooting straight grip mild R/D longbows which I still love by the way. But my wrist developed a cyst and required me to go to a hand shock free (as possible) bow. So I took a new Whip in trade and fell in love. Killed a deer first night in the field. On that bow, I went back to my GN bow quiver. I haven't used a bowquiver for several years and it has been a nice change and simpler for me. I'm sure I will still shoot my straight LB's and a side quiver but my go to set up will be my Whip.
-
Not over for me yet. However, everything I used this year was different for me: Recurve, arrow, broadhead, and even most of my camo. I was pleased with all of it.
-
I picked up a used Cat Quiver 3 to try. I'm moose hunting again this fall and on my last trip found the bow quiver was a pain crawling around in the bush.I bought the quiver to "feild test " before I have to depend on it. All I can say it it's great ! Lots of storage room ( more than you need for a quick hunt behind the house) and my fletching always stayed dry and straight !

Season is not over for me yet.Ohio bow closes in Feb. Did use new broadheads this year.Abowyer brown bears, 260gr single bevel. solid 1 piece. Worked great for me.

Got some new Muck Wetland boots and I absolutely love them! They have been very warm and extremely comfortable. I also tried out my new net seat I bought for my Summit climber. It replaced the original bulky camo foam seat that I hated.
-
I also forgot to add to my original post that I "rediscovered" aluminum arrows this year. I have made and hunted with wood for many years but this year I "played around" with some old aluminum arrows that I had. What an eye-opener! My broadhead tipped arrows have never grouped so good! It does alot for your confidence when you KNOW that your arrows WILL fly exactly where you're looking with broadheads. And with the price of good arrow wood being what it is, aluminum is going to be my GO-TO shafting, especially for hunting.

Shot a deer from a Double Bull blind....a buck at that. Today laura and I walked out property and could not believe the deer sign we found in the melting snow. Track, beds were everywhere. Found a "better" spot for my DB blind, I think.
-
Asbell wool and Nifty Seat. Oh yea, and the GFA quiver.
-
I went to a short recurve, a 56 inch Cascade Night Hawk and I went from my two blade steel force to a 200 grain VPA three blade. Took two does cleanly, both traveled less then 50 yards after the hit. Very happy with my change. Still love my Fox longbow but the shorter recurve sure was nice in the tree stand.

New Sitka Stratus hunting clothes, with the Kelvin.
Worked very well for me here in MI!
-
ASAT 3-D leafy camo, worked great in Texas hunting from the ground. GT3555's with brass inserts, Bitzenburger jigs for fletching my GT's, fletching tape, leather finger glove with the velcro on the fingers, Little tripod stool that swivels 360*, Dead down wind spray.
-
Still hunting for a couple more weeks, Got a shaggy longcoat have had some deer ridiculously close. Its a blast when they walk up 15 feet away in a cut milo field.
-
Finally had a one-piece longbow (MOAB) shoot for a few months without hurting my elbow--Thanks Jim. It shot straight, sweet, and filled the freezer twice.
Also, went with a homemade Asbell type quiver as apposed to a bow quiver, and it worked great.
Change is "ok" in moderation...

I have always been a recurve guy but bought a Bamabows longbow last year and got to shooting it so well I chose it as my primary for my elk hunt. Killed a good bull so guess it was a good choice....Shawn
-
Not realy a deer hunter but did get some varmit blood on a new to me long bow a few times. Hunting season is never over.
-
traded a Morrison Cheyenne for a Shrew and when I pulled it out of the box I was appalled by the insignificant twig that people wait nearly 2 years to get.. We've quickly learned to become friends however.
-
Headlamp (vs hand held); Rancho Safari short jacket and boonie hat; and polyester t-shirts (moisture wicking - which work well down here),and lime green fletchings (most visible low light color I've ever seen...).
-
I bought a Guido's web tree stand and will try it late season. Greg
-
Went from shooting easton legacy's to tapered cedar. Wood is so much quieter.
-
Well I wasn't ready last year so I practiced all year with my super K and closed the deal on a nice mulie buck with it this year 12/15/10 to be exact also used a snuffer 125grn head with excellent results. I'd post a picture but I don't know how. This has been a real goal for me as my so called hunting buddy makes fun of me for using trad gear. I took great joy in sending him a picture of my kill moments after recovery with my TRAD GEAR lying on the trophy.HAHHH!!!!

The little saw used to cut through the pelvic bone. Has a plastic tip so it won't punture the bladder. Blows right through the bone, everything comes out easily without spilling urine, pelvic cavity spreads for cooling. Love it! Takes seconds to go through.
I'm the official "gutter" in these parts when a deer gets hit, the police call me to clean it for them if I'm around. I get the hide. Done lots of deer. Quick wipe backwards and the teeth are clean and ready for another deer.
-
I tried some single bevel 2 blade broadheads. I was very impressed with the penetration and size of the hole they cut, a great bloodtrail also. Very close to the trusty old WW.
-
Shot a nice buck with a new to me BW PSA Recurve on November 4,2010. Shot a late season doe with a new to me 3 piece A & H ACS longbow. Both worked great. Now I am trying to get a doe ( only one Buck permit in Wisconsin)with a new to me 3 piece J.K. Chastain recurve. Also used a new home made fully enclosed side quiver, made out of tanned deer hide -- works fantastic, whole arrow protected and absolutly quiet, convient, lightweight, & carries around my back for easy walking in tough woods. Thanks Jerry.
-
Have been using a back quiver for years, but gave this Steve Catts side quiver a try this year.....I like it. Three broadheads and a Hex blunt carry quiet and protected; easy access, too.

It's a beastie great for clearing brush, making fire (if one is so inclined), general bushcraft and widespread mayhem.

I'm a doof.
-
Neat pic.......looks 10 feet tall-is it?
-
New for me this year was
1. Quiver on my bow - Loved it.
2. Woodsman Broadheads and although I just have one kill with them I am very satisfied with them at this point and will most likely go exclusively with them next season.
-
It was probably the best year I've had for trying items that actually work well. Here's my list:
1. Tall Tines 3 piece recurve. (fast, smooth, & quiet)
2. Heater body suit. (perhaps the best invention in the history of cold weather hunting)
3. Muck boots..(a rubber boot you can walk all day in)
4. Deer cart.... (why did I break by back for years???)
-
Dwyer Defiant
Magnus Stingers 125 grain
Safari Tuff Quiver
Positive thoughts on all three.

Pretty close. :D
The blade is 9" and the knife overall is just under 15". It's backed by KaBar's excellent warranty and is pure cutty / choppy goodness.

I hunted with a new to me 47# Black Widow and liked it.
-
I ditched the camo for wool plaids this year. I bought various pieces from Woolrich, jacket, shirt, and a few sweaters. Also tried some minus 33 wool underlayers. Everything worked great.
-
