Im with you kenny, I may put a couple out after church tomorrow. Curious to see what is left/ shed and such. Planned on doing it today but its raining buckets here now or I would be out now. They moved the winter classic hockey game back because of rain so it might be a long day. the better half is making pork and sauer kraut so that is good.
I have a couple out and will post some picks soon to start the new year :bigsmyl:

Kenny, what you don't realize is his main beams wrap around his head completely LOL. ;)
I saw a great 8pt last night by the house in the cornfield, but I don't have any pictures of him that I know of. sniff.
It sure looks like there's plenty left !!
Nice looking pics. Keep them coming.
This one is actually from 12/28 but I didn't pull the cam until 1/1. With only a few days left in the late bow season, I'm expecting that he'll make it till next season and be a real nice one.
Yeah my date is off as well.

Kenny, yeah he looks young and is wide with long beams and has some extra points. Got some potential but the short tines won't go away.
Robert, do you all have a black bear season in florida?
no bear season, not uncommon to see 3-5 bears a day.. bears love to eat little baby hogs..
True , TJ!
Robert, you have a blind there? LOL

We got a little snow and bitter cold, I only checked two cams and both of them shut off during the extreme cold with 60% and 70% battery left but turned back on just fine. :dunno:
This is what it looked like when I walked up to check it but all the picks were with lots of snow. 495 picks but I think I missed a bunch!

You can see how deep the mineral hole is at this cam after 5 years. I moved the new block up out of it. This was a flat spot when we started.

Wow Tracy! I want to see some pic's of him next year. He looks like a 3 year old to me. Put 25 or 30 inches of horn on him he will be a dandy.
I hear ya Travis he should be a whopper!! The cam quit working soon after he showed up so I hope he gives me some more soon and we can find his sheds. :D
The turkeys are still showing up and need some thinning :archer2:

And this 3 year old broken up buck showed back up too. He was running around all season and put on a lot of size since last year.
He should be a good one next year also.

I hope you find that last bucks horns Travis he's a dandy :bigsmyl:
There's several other good ones in there too, Glad they made it through!!!
Tracy
Man i would love to put up some cameras but all i have is state land to hunt might get some horse back riders or maybe nothing because people take them like there a free gift.great pics guys good luck in season to come some great opportunity there for great hunts.
Tracy, our neighbor found the sheds off that buck. He said I could have them. I hope he doesn't change his mind, I have his horns for the last 3 years.
I missed him with my bow at about 35 yards late in the archery season. Probably one of the prettiest coyotes I have ever seen.
Tangled with this guy all season. Several times he was within range but just wouldnt give up a good shot chance for me.
again
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e349/trdtnlbwhntr/MDGC0791.jpg)
this guy was good as dead about five times this year, but I just couldn't shoot. Not quite ripe as uncle barry would say.
A few lil fellers that made it through.

Geez Rob, Those are two big 6 points! Have you seen the big 6pt genetics(in this area) in the past?
Can you imagine being required to pass those six points because the law says four points on a side?!!! :scared:
Some folks are against the use of trail cameras, but who among us can argue about how fun they are?
Thanks guys!
Great pics, lots of animals must be in a great spot, thanks for sharing..

does your trail cam shut down in really cold weather? i put mine back out right before the big storm came in and only had 6 pics, but there was tracks everywhere, turkey and deer...
Mine does Bryant, All of are cams have been shutting down below 20 deg. with 60% battery life left.
I gave up and just pulled them because are nasty cold weather is here to stay for a while. Bad part is were missing a ton of picks because tracks in the snow don't lie.
Tracy
My Moultry shut down also, despite having a 40# 6v tractor batt wired in.
Power off and back on, shows full batt, down next day!
My wife purchased me my first trail cam for Christmas. It works great. I have access to a piece of property I am trying to learn so I thought I would try it there.
Only one day of hunting left in OH. In a way, I hope I don't see the young Ohio buck at bottom tomorrow, but if I do I am dry this season so far.

I've had my Bushnell trophy cam trail camera for about 7 mo. My first one. Taken some good pics. My problem is no matter how I set it up or program it, it is so sensitive. I swapped cards today and I had to surf thru 2500 pics to get just 7 of deer!!! So needless to say I am going thru alot of batteries!!!!!
Rusty
I like the jumping doe in centerpunch's pic. Seems she is jumping the string, I mean flash.
I know nothing about trail cams but I did nothing with the settings on the Predator my wife purchased for me. I only had 2 shots out of 44 that were not deer.
I do think it may not be functioning in the cold though, but that sounds like a common issue in reading this thread.
The cuddiebacks are the only cameras that I have found that will work in subzero temps.
My covert has not given me any problems in extreme cold . Its like a timex.

Wish I could get close nuff to check mine without walkin a halfmile in 18" snow!
Us MO folks don't keep snowshoes around! LOL

Didn't check the other ones, this one was closest, had the 4wheeler stuck in snow several times, packed some corn the last couple hundred yds.
Stuck some more on the way out, so I just went home, should be able to check others sometime!
Looks like there liking the block Kenny!!
I need to get my cams back out now that it's finally warming up some. Thanks for sharing!!
Tracy
Tracy, they really like the block, every deer thru sniffed or licked it! Wonder if it is like a saliva scentpost?? :D
My new terminals on the tractor battery solved the shutdown prob, got some of the ones with a bolt and wingnut and put good ends on camera wires! :bigsmyl:
Had 550 pics and still full bat this time.
Some awesome picts, Hope ya get a chance at some of them this seas. Good Luck.
Saliva scentpost :biglaugh:
Glad there working for ya Kenny and it sounds like the big batteries are the way to go.

Here's some recent pics, trying some macro pics also since I'm tired of antlerless deer pics.
I think the one pic is a Least weasel, maybe someone here can verify, it's about 9" in length. All pics were taken with homebrew cameras I built.

Tree Killer,so glad to see you back.Always good to see your pictures.Hope you are doing well.
Thanks Ryan and Jim! I've been shooting my hunting bow for the last three weeks or so without any pain, so I can't complain.
Had to invest in some new Tcams this spring. I bought a Little Acorn that seems like a good little camera, but my old card reader won't recognize the 4GB SDHC cards I bought for it? Hope to get the issue figured out soon.
I think this picture was taken from an interesting angle.

Hopefully this hasn't been asked/answered already, but how often do y'all check your cams? I seem to have a difficult time waiting more than a week. Lack of patience, apparently.

I need to get my cameras back out.
Bryan...I usually check mine once a week, occasionally I let them go 2 weeks. If I wait 2 weeks the memory cards are usually filled and have been sitting idle for 4 - 5 days.
If it's on a trail or anywhere besides a lick or feeding station you can wait much longer, say 3-4 weeks.

Nice capture on the wolf Jim!
I was thinking that was a coyote?
I was thinking wolf too. Pretty tall and dark for a coyote. But maybe I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time :knothead:

I'm in no way an expert, but I would say wolf. That's a big head and long body for a coyote, at least in KS.
id say maybe a wolf judging on the size of his paws. either way pretty cool
Whip, if you measure the distance between the legs of that at least 2 year old buck and the same distance of the predatory criter, the size is near the same. Nose to tail is simular as well - body girth same deal. I guess it is one heck of a huge coyote ... ya right.
Bob.
That's what I'm thinking. Wolves have moved in to what is known as the central forest region of WI, and are pretty well established there. My property is more farmland country, and further west than the established wolf ranges. Wolves hadn't been seen commonly there in the past, and I had never seen any evidence of them previously.
But just two days after that picture was taken a man on a motorcycle hit one on the road within two miles of my property. Both the wolf and the rider were killed.
Oh man, that is bad movie, hitting any large animal on a bike. We are seeing more and more numbers of large predators here in the southwest corner. There are bear evey year, a few scattered wolf sightings ( nothing to get alarmed about) but we ahve ever increasing mouintain lIOn sightings, tracks, and deer found dead ... in trees.
Anyway, I am starting to steal this tread so I will stop. I guess my original point was cool picture Whip!! It does look like a wolf. I would rather they stay up north personally.
Bob.
That one looks like a wolf.Summer hair but deep, heavy muzzle of a wolf.
Glad to see those twins still around on the 14th after lobo passed thru on the 11th.
Looks like a coyote to me. I HATE COYOTES! They eat turkeys!
Looks like a wolf to me Joe. Long face and long legs. If its a coyote that is a monster.
Great picks everybody
Kinda looks like a wolf to me to Joe but hard to tell :dunno:
I check are cams once a week also, We run several and there's just to many picks to download if we wait much longer.
Got a few picks to post tonight after I get them all down loaded but here's a couple to start. Looking forward to watching this guy grow!!

Another Kansas dandy right there Tracy!!
Cool pics everyone! I would say that's a wolf. Was taught that when running or trotting the way to tell between the two is if the tail is staright out or not. If the tail is straight back its a Wolf, if the tail is just in its normal position its a Coyote.
I know this buck from the last few years He's grown some gained a couple of points and defently wider. He has a big scar on his neck and butt plus the curved right brow looks the same this year again.

That NT is missing a pretty good hunk of his ear- not really missing but it's not where it's suppose to be
Makes ya wonder what happened. Any of you Whitetail Guru's want to take a stab at his age? (If it's even possible to guess)
I'd guess him at 4 but he could only be 3. That ear is a taxidermists nightmare.

I set a Trail Cam in April after a day of Turkey hunting. This meadow was still knee deep in snow when I set the camera. My lovely wife and I hiked up on Saturday to retrieve the camera.

I finally broke down and bought a game cam. Got the cheapest one I've run across since I hunt public ground. $39.00 Tasco.
Pretty worthless for night..just see the eyes on most night-shots, anyway here's a few pics. I got behind the house in Shawnee Forest. Can't put anything out in Illinois, so just set up on trails.

Nice pics guys!!I love seein whats on the camera, like a 5yr old at Christmas!!
no doubt kenny.its hard for me to wait a whole week to check mine, and mine aren't half the size of that one tracy is watching.
I vote wolf as well, that muzzle/head is to thick for a coyote.
Cool pics yall, got to go get my cam out the woods and check it!
J
One of the things I love about all my early TC pics is with the short hair capes the deer have on you can really see the bone structure and Placement of the shoulder blade in different positions. Good stuff to study and know
u guys that have the wildgame innovation cameras how you yall like them and which models do yall have?
I like my wilgame cameras. I one that is the 5.0 I believe. Its time to get them out.
This isn't this year but it's one of my favorite trail cam pics.
I thought a chihuahua was following that doe.

Not bad pics for 37.00 camera!! My only gripe with the Wildgame Inn. is the flash range on this 37.00 model is about 10 feet instead of 30 as advertised.....
Kenny that 8 looks REAL nice!!
Yep, I think he'd trip my shoot button!! LOL
That is one nice 8pt Kenny :bigsmyl:

These are from 2010 but my son is trying to teach me how to do pictures and I thought these were pretty neat. I had 22 pictures of this bobcat. I shot a doe in late December late one evening and didn't recover it that night. I went back 2 days later and found her. She was completly covered in leaves. Just like somebody had used a yard rake. It had not been eaten on at all. I figured it was a cat so I put my camera on it and got these.
Sorry, I should have posted these on the 2010 thread but I'm so excited about learning how to do pictures I messed up.The date on the pictures is about 10 years behind.
Dang, that's one healthy looking cat!
Glenn
Kenny, that is a heck of a young 9 point. I'm guessing he is a 3 year old. He's a nice deer but if you want big deer those are the ones you have to let walk. If it's ok to post pic's from years past I'll show you what that big 4 point looked like his last 2 years.
Great cat pics!!
Hey Travis, they don't live long enuff here with the small farms and many hunters to let them go I'm thinkin! I can't tell ya how many bucks I've passed in the last 6 years, one only made it 250 yds the nite I let him walk. He had a unique sticker and offered me many shots! LOL
Last year I fooled around and let a great 8 get away waitin for a perfect shot, he scored 154, same neighbor kid got him in gun.
I also thought the 9 pt pictured to be 3, but wasn't real sure, his rack is pretty good, but bodywise he just didn't look too old.
I am startin to feel like the old buzzard who said " Patience my a$$, I'm gonna kill sumpin!" :wavey:
Kenny my situation sounds a lot like yours. I been passing up pretty good bucks for about 15 years now. The last time I see them is usally in the back of someone's truck. I been killing mostly does last 3 or 4 years. I may be a little trigger happy come October 1.
Its kind of the same way here Kenny. To get a buck with horns to live through a SD rifle season takes a lot of luck.
He's a great deer. I hope to see some kill pic's with you behind him this this fall. Plus a good story to go with it.
I will start a thread tonight if I get time.
Travis
Does the front yard count?
I got this one this week while I was eating my breakfast:

That is a beautiful picture and a great buck!!!
Great pic Travis! You have some great bucks again this year!
Thanks Ryan. It's getting frustrating cause I can't get pic's of the really big ones. I see them once and awhile close to my cameras but no pic's.
Really Big Ones!! :scared: Those count right there!
Hopefully I can show them to you with in the next few weeks. Ones a big 6x6 with some extra stuff and ones a 5x5 thats about 22 inches wide that should net over 170.
:bigsmyl:
Looks like your grown some nice bucks this year kenny! & yep, old enough.
Hi Ryan, maybe the trad bow only will help a little, I'm sure the neighbors will love me!
Been getting lots of fawns and elk calves lately. Future photo ops!

This locale hasn't had much elk activity this summer.

Kenny just going by your local up north Missouri and what I know about that area (food, cover, genetics) I'm going to say 3 1/2 year old. I can make that educated guess because he looks identical to the nice 8pt. I got last November in Montgomery County on my brother's father in law's place. When I first put my hands on his head gear and saw the body size on this brute I just knew he had to be at least 4 1/2, but a better look at the teeth revealed he was only 3 1/2 yr old and scored 135" and some change. They get big quick up in the northern part of Missouri, unlike down here in SE Mo. where I live. It would take a buck 5 1/2 yrs. to get that big down here and be tuff as old boot leather from eating all them acorns down here and no major crops to speak of.
Tree Killer......You gotta tell me what the heck you put in that hole!
Before long that hole is gonna be so deep all you will get a pic of is a few tines sticking out! :biglaugh:
Finally, another one of the locals showed up.

I just want to know what kind of block Chris is using.. Big guy loves it for sure.

Nothing but a trace mineral block from the local feed store. The rain and snow melts any left over block and then the deer and elk get in there early the next spring and devour the salt laden dirt.
This camera has been getting clobbered by the elk. It was caked with mud the other day, so I moved it to a new location. If I put it back in there later I'll need to mount it higher. There's still standing water nearby, the elk should stick around unless that water dries up in the next month. I get new bucks wandering through every week.

Great pics guys! Treekilla...you are killing me with those blacktails.
Always enjoy Treekillers pics .. that Primo's cam does pretty good
Thanks guys!
elkken...the Primos cam's make a slight noise that the animals pick up, but they seem to get used to it in short order.
Ron, lots of cams must make a noise or the red lite alerts em, they always seem very interested in the cam! LOL
QuoteOriginally posted by kennym:

Kenny...the Primos make a low clunk that even my chainsaw abused ears can detect just before it takes a photo, many of the deer and elk will be staring at the camera when it goes off. I read on a trailcam forum they were trying to eliminate the noise on the newer models.
The Little Acorn I have doesn't make a sound that I can hear, and the animals haven't the slightest interest in it. But it's less then half the size of the Primos 46 also!
My Bushnell makes no noise I can detect, but they still look at it, bout decided it is the red lite that comes on.
All I Had last week were little guys.
These my dad took next to my old stand at the family farm.

Put my Little Acorn in an area I hunt elk in Sept. The place is infested with mosquitoes this year from the late snow and rains we had.
Pleased to see some cows and calves on the Tcam since there wasn't much elk sign a week ago when I took the camera in there.

Dang Ron, I don't know much bout blacktails, but those look huge to me!

Put my camera out last week on a trophy rock. Going to wait a bit to give them a chance to find it.
Thanks for sharin' the great photos Tree Killa!
Yea, I was out in the Cascades last week doing some scouting for Roosies and the mosquitos are THICK this year!
My son dubbed them the NINJA mosquitos as they kept flyin' into his eyeballs!
We got into the elk, but they weren't quite as thick as the mosquitos...lookin' forward to the opener....
Shoot straight, Shinken

This deer has a wierd growth or a messed up horn. I had several pictures of it but nothing up close enough to tell exactly what it is. Hopefully when I check the camera this weekend I will have more pictures of it.

Here's a few from my latest trail cam check. The one in the middle is a small fork, the other two look like 8 pointers:

A doe we have tons of pictures of, notice the notch in her right ear, and her fawn:

Nice Jordan. The little state with big deer.
Good Googley Moogley!
TJ,I second that !!!!! :scared:
I will post pics of this deer last year, but no one will believe me that it's the same deer. I'm about 90% sure that it is for several reasons. The 3 bucks that he is running with this summer are the same exact 3 he was running with up until we pulled our cameras in late January. Here he is last year....like i said, i'm going to get a whole lot of "that's not the same deer", but i would bet otherwise.
Now that I have my photobucket open....do you guys think this is the same deer?.....first pic is last summer....

No luck with the trophy rock. Moved it closer to water. Thinking about putting rechargeable batteries in a camera and wiring a solar cell to it while I'm in Iraq. Should be home after November. It would be nice to see everything I missed while I'm gone.

This little guy, had crossed paths with my father 4 times. He could have shot him if he wasn't hunting a doe only season and then didnt get excited and shoot a smaller buck during archery.
err I mean took a cull buck in order to promote genetics. :banghead: :dunno: This one will be good in 8 more years.
He's earned the nick name "Dreamer", because my dad has been dreaming of this buck all year.

I try to let 'em grow another year, but that's bigger than anything I have seen with anything more dangerous than a fly rod in my hand...
I am liking what I am seeing and very excited for, "Come November!"
There seem to be plenty of bucks that I'd love to wrap my tag on!!! He'd maybe be a good one next year for some folks, but he's a trophy for this southern boy!!!
Yes its a young deer with a giant rack 3.5 years is right on.Good luck passing on that deer.
Got some more, same guys, may hafta move some cams.....

My Moultrie keeps dying. Fresh batteries, takes pics for one day usually, and that's it. Maybe put some corn in the feeder? The dang batteries should last 6 mos!
My original Moultrie says low batt as soon as it tries to take a pic, turn it off and back on and shows full batt, its 6 years old tho....

Kenny, You sure have some nice bucks this year and I sure hope you can get permission on the new farm. There's some studs walking around on it.
I was finally able to get a cam out and hope to get a few more up and running this week.

I would love to see Charlie put his tag on him. I would love to just see one like that in person

JIMB, What is that sow doing? Laying in the water hole? Some great pics,Thanks.
Chuck, that is an old water trough made by sinking two 2x12 planks into a spring. The water is cold and clear.I have been acquainted with that old sow for a long time.I think that is the 8th set of cubs I've seen her with and they only have them every other year. When the weather is hot, they go out of their way to soak themselves to cool down. That trough is only 12" wide but she makes it work.I didn't post them all but she has been in there several times in the last few weeks and there are two other places she can submerge but no cameras there. It has been hot and dry.I encountered her one day, coming through the woods,2 cubs in tow,and water dripping from her hair,on a hot,dry day.A neat, old girl.

Not sure, is them ribs?? :scared:
Larry no it loooks someone is trying to shoot there widow again :)
Zombie deer....
"What's the creature in the first pic Jim?"
Tree Killer,it looks like an African wildcat to me.I assume it is a bobcat kitten or at least a young bobcat. That lion is a pig.He is the biggest I've ever gotten a picture of.There were 5 whitetail bucks using that trail earlier in the summer.I'm only getting pictures of one now.In that picture, and one prior,he looks like his gaze is riveted on something in the creek bottom below.
I wouldn't want to say how big that lion is but the only ones I've seen with forearms like that were honest 180 lb cats.I hope we get to meet someday.

Wow... That cat hasn't missed very many meals lately!
He's a stud!!
Pretty sure this is my big six! If I'm right he should be 5yrs old. I passed him as a two year old and haven't had a shot on him since! I could be wrong, but I think it's him. He's now a 7.

Awesome picks Kenny and Ron :bigsmyl:
Not much new here either but we have decided that if this buck that we named "Trashy" comes by we will try to take him.
He's a 4 year old and sure has a bunch of stuff on his bases.
He won't score the best but will gross nicely, He hasn't grown a right brow tine for the last three years.
We have been watching are bucks closely for years and most of them shed from Sept 1st to Sept 12 so they should be about done growing. We have had a terrible drought this summer so we will see if that changes anything shedding wise.
Tracy
This is a great early season spot but it takes some work to get back in there. Great exercise though!!

I'd be letting it fly!
Josh
Naw, give him a couple more years he'll be big and funky.
I'm with TJ let grow a couple more years and see what you get. They are so tuff that leg won't bother him, we have a buck running around that got injured very young and he really hobbles along while walking but when he's chasing does you wouldn't even know it's the same buck hardly.
Here he is with his first rack, check out the front leg.
1 year later, He grew a bunch we call him "Crazy legs"
He's back this year also and looking even better.
You sure have some good looking bucks in those picks Don, Good luck to you guys this year. :D
Tracy
Choot em' Don! :)
I have had a lot of deer come in to those trophy rocks, but rarely had much buck activity during the day time. That must be a prime spot.
I agree that he would be interesting in a year or two. We only take an average of 4 bucks a year from this property. Our management rules are very strict for our part of the world and it seems that they are starting to pay off. We have got an incrediable amount of buck pics this year. There are some good ones running around this little piece of Heaven. Skyler took a 154" 10 point that only had 2.5" of deductions.....Great place to hunt if you can stand to be a deer watcher and a sometimes killer :)
TRACY....Great pics and good to see you out and about.
GREGG.....under our rules this buck could be taken. We have had great luck with the Trophy rocks with the buck pics in both day and night but this place has very little human activity.
If you will look carefully in one of bottom pics, there is a nice 10 point that is on the left side of the pic showing his head and neck....this camera is getting around 700 pics every 2 weeks and that is the only pics of him. The rest of that crew is there daily.
Archery elk season opens this Saturday, went in and hung a treestand just above my trailcam. This little 5pt came in last Saturday, sure hope he shows up this Saturday when I'm sitting in the treestand waiting for him!

Sorry couldn't resist!!! Hope you get a shot at em!!! If so I for one want details and a better pic!!!
Gary, I will sure post some pic's if I get him. He is one that doesn't need another year, he's 5 this year. He is lucky to be alive this year. His left shed from last year had a bullet hole through the brow tine.
Go get him Travis! Is he one of the big ones you were waiting to show? Good luck!
Yes he is Ryan. All the pic's I have of him are in the daylight. I'm guessing that will change when he loses velvet.

Here is two of the nicer ones I got on my cam in the last couple months. The 8 point, I think he is the same as the one I got several pics of last year. He has the same big belly. The 10 might just be the 9 I had several pics of last year but not sure..Henry

Sat in a treestand Saturday morning and evening, then again Sunday morning. Not a thing had come in since Friday morning when a thunderstorm went through and dumped enough rain to wash out all the tracks. I thought all the elk had moved out of the area and was pretty disappointed :( Sure enough I get home and look at the memory card from my trailcam and see a 4x6 bull had been there just before the rain Friday morning. :archer:

He's also blind in his right eye Matt. See the bull in the pict just above your post? Dead eyes don't glow on camera. Be sure he comes in from your left and you won't have any problem drawing on him.
Dang it Ron, they'll be back. Good luck!
hey 4 point, do you have any small deer on your farm?? daaaaang, u got some beasts
Does this buck look like a little thin in body or is it just me?

Here's another pic.....
David
Say TJ maybe I'll have a chance on him afterall!
Huntrdfk,
It looks like a shadow making him look that way in the first pic. I think he is an old buck mature buck judging my his neck and brisket.
Kelly
Hey buddy...I agree with Kelly....he looks to me to be a nice mature buck...deep thru the body and brisket.
Hope you get him!
I'm gonna try Curt......he's with two other smaller bucks in a big, big piece of woods...
David
Looks good to me David, and that shadow of his rack on his side is cool in the last pic!!

This one is not real big but he has a lot of trash. I have a bunch of pics of him growing up this summer and hope he makes it through this season. If he continues in the same fashion I think he could be real cool in a year or two.
Sure!!
He might not be a "trophy yet" but look at that fat doe. She would be a real trophy. Look at her brisket looks like a mature ole doe to me.

No idea where this dude came from!

Varmint the question isn't where did he come from but how do you get him to stay! He's a real beauty!
Glenn
Ya no doubt. I'll probably never lay eyes on him! Love these cameras.

I am sure there is a spot that you leave for as long as possible, because you let him get comfy and feel safe... then as October turns to November, they get a lil bold and like any male once they get a sniff, they get REAL STUPID!!!!
You never can tell...

Great picks guys!! :bigsmyl:
Several of are bucks are shedding right on time. 6 years in a row the have all shed in the first 12 days of September.

With the bad drought and super hot summer we wasn't sure if it would change there timing of shedding but it didn't.
Tracy
4 Point, I like that dude with the kickers :bigsmyl: .
Not sure if I can get this to work or not. Trying out my Moultrie M100 with video option. It's just the default 5 second setting, but I'm impressed! You can see the velvet coming off his antlers.
I can't wait until the annual scrape opens up!!
FYI just click on the picture.

Minnesota buck, no velvet. This is a really nice buck for my area. I included the night pic to show his cool little "hook" point and what looks like a lot of character on his bases. First time I've seen him, hopefully not the last.

my cams over the last couple of weeks have started to turn up empty. It must mean the antlers have shed and the bucks are feeling the cooler air. Im not sure.
Dustin, can you say "ACORNS" Time to move them to the nut ridges.
Upstate New York. Right on the Hudson River.

Season is in since yesterday, this is from about 10 days ago.Main reason for the cam was an ATV trespasser who probably stole one of my ladderstands as well. I got his pics and told the landowner. Probably the neighbors kid. The landowner will write him a letter....and I am pretty positive getting the stand back....
I will place an additional treestand tomorrow and will hunt a little, too.

Great picks everybody! Keep it going!

First year hunting but I love this thread and I've finally got a bit to share. Here's the thoughts running through my head.
Okay, nice size on that body, must be a healthy doe, I don't see any tips poking in to frame. Oh well, it's activity.
Wait a second. is there another curious doe around my camera? No that shoulder looks the same as the other picture... hmmm... must be a curious one. What's that holding the flash above the ear? I look closer. Oh my word, that's a buck! Sorry it's not the best picture.
I moved the camera a bit hoping to get a fuller view of the spot and I hope to see him in full view. I don't know what he's packing for antlers but what I can see looks nice. Hope my wish is granted.
This is one I hadn't seen yet

I cut the date and time out to edit the brightness and zoom in a bit, my camera is not impressing me right now. I have moved this camera for the third time now as of today, here's from last night after waiting 3 days. Gonna wait another while.
My brother is saying 8, but I'm safely assuming a 6.

I see these 10 and 11 point bucks and I look at my trail camera pictures and see the, now safely assumed 8, and feel like it's not even comparable. haha. I love this thread. Getting me super pumped for October 1st!

I have photos somewhere from a couple of years ago where a stupid bull from a neighbor's farm got onto the property and knocked my feeder over.
He got his big butt under the thing and tried turning around and bent/broke one of the sections of a leg. now my feeder is one section shorter all around because of his dumb cow self.
I have pics and one of them is bad. I will start with that one.
We have been in a drought for about three months until just recently. We finally got some rain this last week.
But I think the damage is done. We have no acorns and these deer are going to have a very rough Winter and im sure there will be Winter Kill.
This deer looks to be in bad shape. You can see her ribs. I don't think that's a great sign. She's starving. Going to have to put out some corn.
Then I found myself a little baby buck. I hope the larger ones will find this salt lick in the woods when the rut kicks in. Not really excited about him. I don't like his genetics. I may cull him from the herd to do away with his genetics. There are a few around with those small mainbeams and tall racks.
And finally, I saw a bobcat :) I hope he passes through this season while I'm on the stand.
Finally got some pic's organized.
This will be my spot opening day if the wind is right.

Not the size of the deer some of you see all the time, but this is a great one in my area. #1 on the hit list this year so far.
This is another spot on the same lands. Not much buck traffice. I got a lot of does and fawn so far on the camera in this area. Bucks will show more later.
First for some fun shots. I like the fawns and odd ball pic's as much as the nice ones.
(http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000033.jpg) (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000012.jpg) (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000027-1.jpg) (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000010.jpg) (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000007.jpg)

Little spot in town where I got a lot of bucks on a scrape last year. This year a tree came down in a storm and about wiped out the scrape bush. I cleared it a little this week to see if they use it. This camera is off in the woods a little where I found 6 or so rubs on 3-5" trees. I expected to see a nice on in the area, but not this one.
(http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000027.jpg) (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000030.jpg)
Then there are these small buck. I did get on shot with one of them working one of the two rubs you can see in the background.
(http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000043.jpg) (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000050.jpg) (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i202/thaner/trail%20cam%202011/IM000042.jpg)
I think this guy knows the camera is there. what do you think? The camera is over a bush so this guy was in the bush off the trail. If this was a dog I would know what he was up to.

After I saw the bigger trees rubbed in the area, I was sure I would see something nice on the camera. I was nervous with anticipation when I popped the card in the laptop. He was the first thing on it. While impressive, he was not what I expected to be ripping up the woods. Maybe in a couple years.
I figure he is the son of one of these guys caught on last year's camera set-up about 40 yd. from this spot.

That's funny. I like the photos where the animals look right at the camera trying to figure it out. I just wish they had an auto focus to take a clear photo. I have one of my local bear slobbering on my camera.
When I first scrolled down and saw just the head, I thought Wow someone got a pic of an ostrich. :biglaugh:
Haven't posted any Tcam pics for awhile...pulled most of my cameras while archery season was going on here in Oregon.
Here's a couple pics of a young bull just before dark last Friday evening. My treestand is just up the hill from the wallow...but no, I wasn't in it. :)

These are some great trail cam pictures!!!
Here are a couple of picts from my buddy's trail cam. I came face to face with this big boy a couple of times this year, literally within feet of him. He had a nasty habit of laying behind the barrel and you didn't see him until you walked right up to him. He was none to scared of humans, he took away a blackbear that my buddy had arrowed.

This old girl charged me one night while walking out from the site. Luckily I was able to talk her out of it and we both lived to tell the tail.

If there is one animal that frightens me, it's a Grizzly.
Well, that and poisonous snakes (I have stepped over dozens of them and turned around to see them) because I know one of these days my luck is going to run out.
Those grizzlies in wooded areas as massive but they still can creep up and close at 40mph. I'd love to hunt them, but I'd be afraid to go to sleep in a tent because I know I'd wake up to being eaten, lol. I'd have to put a hammock like 15ft in a tree or something.
These are from a couple weeks ago.

Thanks purple heart! Those pics are from my LTL Acorn 5210A. It's small and compact, and can shoot several pics, then switch to video. It will shoot 12mpx, but I keep it on 5mpx. I've had over 4000 pics on a set of batteries (8 AA's). Been really pleased with it so far!
Great grizz pics thebear_78! Who's more dangerous, big daddy or mom and her cubs? I'm guessing mom and her cubs!

I thought this was a cool series of the largest buck I have seen on this property with the buck with the antler out the side of his head. This is about a third of the shots in the interaction with these two. It was great to see it unfold when I first viewed the card.

That thing is fantastic. I wish we had beasts like that around here. I REALLY need to get up there in the NW to hunt some elk.
I've got this guy in velvet and now again in hard horn.

What a gorgeous animal. Simply awesome.
I want a pet Elk now. Lol. I wish I could just release like an 18-wheeler load of them into my woods.
There are a couple hundred of them in the Ozarks, but we can't hunt them. They are transplants and you have to get a lottery license.
Ryan, he is lookin muscled up there!
That bull is in a tag draw area that I have yet to draw a tag for but I put my cam up there every year just for pictures. Without the tag it is cow or spike only. This year we had a warm spell and a full moon during the archery elk season and day time pictures were few compared to after dark and years past. Midnight seemed to be the most active time. This spot is on public land.
Great Photos fellas.
I agree, the elk picts are amazing to us flatlanders. Great picts Elkken.

Especially a photo like that one. I don't know that I've seen a prettier set of "horns". And the pose... It's like he knew the camera was there waiting for him. :D

Lost Creek, that is just crazy.
Lost,
That guy has some daggers on him doesn't he? Jeez. what are you feeding him? Buckets of soybeans or something? He's a boy that gets a lot of protein and minerals.
For the last two years that I've had a trail camera, I don't think I've seen any photos where a deer has really cared about it being there or paid any attention to it. The bear was curious, but not the deers.
I find it funny to see a doe being curious about it. I don't know if she smelled my scent on it and investigated or if it just looked weird to her. Will never know.

A little closer inspection
(http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e311/Blacktalons/curious2.jpg)
I see quite a few cameras are set on mineral licks. I would like to do that for the off season. What has everyone found to be the best attractor and hopefully most beneficial for the deer?

I have found the best is Tropy Rock and Deer Cane liquid is a close second to work best in Iowa. "The Coonster" is 4 1/2 years old and I've only seen him once in the daylight.

Great buck.

This is the biggest deer I've ever seen in the woods while hunting near my cabin. I had him under my stand at 15 yards on Friday but couldn't get a clear shot/angle on him. I'll take it as a good sign that I even saw him, every pick of him I have on the trail cam is at night.
It's like they know and are just toying with me.
Found this one lurking around the other day.
A buck I named "Contender" only because he was never the biggest buck I'd get a picture of in this area.
Same area roamed by the buck called "Lucky". Haven't gotten "Lucky's" picture yet this year, but if he's still around, I believe he'll have his hands full with this guy.
Keep in mind, I've never laid eyes on this buck in the 3 yrs. I've gotten these pix and hunted the area...
In 2009 as a 2.5yr. old...
Then last year as a 3.5yr. old...in velvet...
Last year again in October...
Now just last week(month on camera is off by one month) as a tank 4.5yr old!

I'd set this camera last Wed. in the rain, after getting rained out at work. I found some rubs, then a giant rub. I set the cam, then left.
Yesterday morning I hunted the spot(the tree I climbed is actually in the backround of the pic).I have a stand set about 70yds. away, but yesterday used my climber..didn't see a thing.
So I got down and switched cards in the cam, and got home to find those last 3 pix!
Nice whities you guys are getting pics of. The blackies out here are still pretty nocturnal, hopefully that changes soon. A few short videos I thought I'd share. (Click on the pic for the video)

I set up my game camera to see what was passing my stand, not realizing that I had the top of the stand in the picture, too. This fellow came along about an hour after I got in the stand. Look closely and you can see my recurve. I had just changed the card in the camera, and he smelled me. He was looking for me, but didn't see me.

It had been pretty slow the first part of the month at the "post", but last week things picked up after I freshened the post with my special scent. :wink (click on pic for video)
This is the third year this buck has visited the post since I've had a trailcam on it. Looks like he broke one of his eyeguards off this year.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v117/treekiller/Blacktail%20videos/th_IMAG0027.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v117/treekiller/Blacktail%20videos/?action=view¤t=IMAG0027.mp4)
This is kind of a three video series showing a buck rubbing the post...then eating some snow or wood shavings off the ground...and the last clip he's scratching, then goes into scent marking where he bunches his feet together and pee's on his tarsal glands. Wish I knew how to stream this series together, that would be cool.

I just put my first trail cam out Friday afternoon. I checked it yesterday afternoon and I was like a little kid on Christmas morning. I had 25 pics so not a real hot spot but a lot of fun. I hope to get a couple more for different creeks I hunt. I really want to get a mountain lion picture, some people have seen them in my area and other haven't. So getting a picture of one would be awesome. Keep them coming I love going through this thread!
