Do an internet search for "Recover Arrow Detection System ".  It is a small metal detector that mounts onto the end of an arrow.  I can't say how good they work, though, I just just use a regular metal detector in the yard, when needed.  If this item works, it would me nice on the 3D range.

I have seen a small hand held (like a really big flashlight).  I'll check out your suggestion.

I bought a Jr. Metal detector from "the world's foremost outfitters" for $50 a few years ago. It works well. I just keep it under the back seat of my truck and it is there when I need it. Comes in handy for a lost arrow at the range or a lost broadhead after shooting a deer.

If you've ever watched New Yankee Workshop, Norm Abrams has a small hand held metal detector that he finds nails with before he works with reclaimed wood. Not sure where he gets it.

I drag my practice arrows thru my armpit so they stink a little.

My dog then can find them easily, it was easy to train just stink up an arrow then leave it on top of the grass where he can see it tell him whatever command you want like "find it" when he sniffs the arrow tell him good boy good boy ect.

Every dog I've owned since college has been my arrow finder, they like doing it.

I believe the one on the left is the one Norm uses.

Any old cheap detector will work. We use the one we bought for our son one year as a toy. I think it came from WalMart for less than $40.... ? Have not lost an arrow yet in the backyard.
