Title: which carbon arrows to shoot from 58# recurve
Post by: Justin Falon on December 30, 2010, 08:40:00 AM
Never shot carbon arrows. Maybe like to try them.

Which ones should I shoot from my 58# recurve?  I shoot 160 grain points.  28" draw.  Looking for heavy weight arrows for penetration.

I shoot 7595 goldtips from my 57# Tall Tines recurve.  My arrows are cut 30.5" with 100 grain brass inserts and 125 grain tips.

Do yourself a favor and buy some Arrow Dynamics Trad carbons.  They are, by far, the most forgiving arrow and at those stats should work just fine.  seems like they fit the bill for what you are looking for.

Justin, carbon arrows act differently than wood or aluminum. As a rule of thumb you need to stay at 10 gfp but you can go up to 12 if you are hunting heavy skinned critters or limit your shooting distance.Usually people like a stiffer arrow and then load it with weights upfront to have a high FOC.I think you can use a CE,very tough arrow,250 cut around 29-39" with 100 grains insert and your 160grs point then you can add insert weight or cut 1/4" of shaft as needed.Remember carbon are really sensible to the lenght much more than Alu. make always adjustment of 1/4" at time. You can use a 150 if you like a ligther arrow.

Beman MFX Classic 400 with 100 grain brass inserts. Pretty heavy too. My 500s are the best carbon arrows I've ever shot. Skinny shafts are easier to stabilize than bigger diameter shafts which means easier tuning with minimal fletching. So, if you like even more than average fletching, that's even better for the ease of tuning.

You should do fine with anything around 400 spine.

2 choices,
1. Carbon Express Heritage 150 cut to 30 inches
100 grain brass insert with a 175 gain point
they weigh in at 620 gains.

2.  Goldtip 3555 also cut to 30 inches(that is
full length) and the 100 grain brass insert
with a 175 grain tip these weigh in at 535
   grains.

This combo fly's very well out of a multitude of bow weights. yours in particular

Cut 400 spines long and start from there.
