Title: Just set up my game cam and feeder...need help
Post by: highpoint forge on December 30, 2010, 01:22:00 AM
Am I even in the right forum? I have a Moultrie D50 and the setup and aiming was very straightforward. Dropped some batteries in it and a 16GB SD card. Corn is dropping every day at 6:15 AM for 5 seconds. So today, for grins, I check the camera. 5 pics! Cool!

1 is me messing with it yesterday indoors, 2 is me setting it up outside yesterday, 3-4 are of the farmhands moving the feeder a bit this AM, and 5 is a nice sharp night picture of nothing at 830 pm. Today it was grey and overcast/rainy all day. The pictures 3-4 were all white and smoky looking. Quite odd. What causes this?

The other thing I don't get is the event delay countdown to snapping a pic(s) or video. Why the 60 sec delay? Any animal walking by will be gone in a minute, I'd think, unless they like corn....

This is my first game cam. Your help is appreciated.

Don't know about the other, but the 60 sec. delay is the time between the first picture and the second picture. I think. Hap

How far from the feeder do you have it set??

I set all my cameras on high resolution for picks, 3 shots, 1 minute intervals. The 60 second countdown is just so you can get out of the area after starting the camera. Anytime I reset a camera or put new batteries I let mine countdown then walk in front of it to trigger it. It takes a few seconds to pop up but it will show you 3 picks have been taken.

Go ahead since it's a new camera and walk around and let it take several picks of you then pull the card and check it right there with a camera or laptop and see if it's the kind of pictures you want. If not move it and try again!!

We have 8 Moultries and they take great picks, Not the fastest triggers mind you but will take some nice pictures for you. The grey pick was from a animal running or flying  past the camera and it just didn't get triggered in time probably. It happens but make sure there's no big weeds or grass's in front of the camera blowing around to trigger it either.

Also make sure You don't have the camera facing in to the sun ( Rising or setting )

Hmmmmm. It's pointing west, but there was no sun yesterday. Everything was just whited out around the people in the pics......

check it again & see if it still whited out? If so it may have moisture in the lens.

Success! Had a doe last night at 12:15AM. Squirrel this PM too.

It works!

Night pics are grainy though......for a 5mp camera.
